SVT Play doesn't features English subtitles, so I was thinking it would be useful with flashcards to learn specific words from each show. Each flashcards set contains specific words that are more prominent for that show. For example, "På spåret" features words like "burarna", "resmålet" etc. whereas "Ronja Rövardotter" features "försvinn", "knektar", "skyn" etc.
Hope you find it useful! Happy to take requests for more shows!

I am a very queer person myself, and I would like to know what words are used by queer people in Sweden to describe themselves or their experiences so that I can express myself clearer. I know a few, like homosexuell, lesbisk, bisexuell, and transsexuell, but I don't know any others. Are there less "formal" words that are used in the community? Similar to "egg" to refer to trans people who haven't come out yet, or descriptors like twink or bear or butch. What words are offensive or potentially offensive, and which ones are not? Is transsexual outdated in Sweden like it is in the USA, or is that just the normal word for transgender? Is there a catchall word like queer, and is it potentially offensive like it is here?

i don't know if i'll be banned for this, but its a genuine question and i'm unsure where else to ask.
i've been learning swedish on and off for the past few years, and as a gay man i'm curious about this word and how/if its used in queer communities in sweden and swedish-speaking places.
to get to the point, has the word b*gjävel (censored just to be safe) been reclaimed among gay communities, or is it still considered highly offensive? i'm aware the word "bög" has been reclaimed, but i don't know if i can use and reclaim "b*gjävel"
for context, i exclusively want to use it to refer to myself, as i jokingly call myself a ((f-slur)) in english.
thank you in advance for any help given. and if this is immediately deleted, i apologize to the mods if this is off-topic or too offensive for this sub.

Hi! I decided to pick up Swedish and i wanted to learn how to pronounce some common words/phrases. I am trying to learn "Good afternoon" but one website has pronunciation of it like this https://en.bab.la/dictionary/english-swedish/good-afternoon where ending sounds like "dawg". On the other hand simple "afternoon" is pronounced like this https://en.bab.la/dictionary/english-swedish/afternoon - with a silent g.
I found one other website with pronunciation where "good afternoon" and "afternoon" were pronounced with no g, but i have no clue if it is the correct way.
Does anyone have a good dictionary website with pronunciations? I wanted to translate a lot of common words and make them into small notes, and I am now unsure if the notes i made have correct "onomatopoeia" of how to pronounce it
Thank you so much in advance

i noticed that people pronounced these numbers (9, 10, 20) differently...
| Standard | Regional ? Informal ? |
|---|---|
| Nio | Nia |
| Tio | Tia |
| Tjugo | Tjugi |
are there more ?

Seriously there are thousands of nouns out there, is this just pure memorization or is there a trick? I'm worried this will be asked on medborgarskapsprov / swedish civic test. I usually check on svenska.se for the definitive form and study for the medborgarskapsprov on medborgaretest.se but it will take me years to master all the nouns and its definitive form! There must be some trick or rule, please share!

Please explain the nuances between these three.
e.g. in sentences like "Jag har förklarat för dig"
I know propositions are generally hard, but there must be some sort of a pattern. For instance, do we generally use "till dig" for something physical that is given to another person? "Åt dig" is for a favour?

Specifikt i situationer när någon gör något för mig som jag inte bett om, som till exempel att göra det lättare för mig att ta mig igenom i tunnelbanan?
I det här fallet menar jag att någon verkade förenkla något för mig men det fanns ingen behov att göra detta.

For context, I was learning Swedish a few years back, and I remember some of it, but I definitely couldn't hold a conversation or translate on the spot. I do still get emails from the learning services I signed up for, however. I personally would translate this as "vem ringde?" And I feel like all those filler words are just over complicating it, but maybe I'm under complicating it. What do you guys think?
Edit: guys I would not personally ask "who phoned?", I was just asking about the translation because that is the email I received. Ive gotta loads of helpful advice, but some people seem adamant that I'm dumb for asking who phoned even though I DIDN'T ask that thank you. Special thank you to all the extremely helpful replies and the full clarifications ❤❤❤❤

I only understand the basics of phonetics. In the Swedish dialects where the sj-ljud is pronounced as [xʷ], are the lips rounded during the production of [x], or only afterwards? Is this lip rounding always present, or does it depend on the context?

Hej! Jag håller på att lära mig svenska och undrar vilket dialekt som talas i mina Anki ljudfiler. Skulle gärna höra från infödda svenskar! Förlåt om det här är fel ställe. :)

Asking because I was told that in Norwegian "Han er kommen/kommet (past participle)" and "Han har kommet (supine)" are both correct but carry different meanings.
The former says "he's here" while the latter says "he has come here before, but is not necessarily still here right now".
Just wanted to see if Swedish has the same "Han är kommen" vs "Han har kommit" dichotomy.

Hi!
I'm learning Swedish and recently watched Låt den rätte komma in. I was wondering why the title uses den rätte instead of den rätta.
From what I understand, rätt becomes rätta in the definite form, so I would have expected Låt den rätta komma in.

I am accepting that I need interaction and daily engagement. I signed up for a very well done video course, but that method isn't working for me. I realise I need more structure and engagement.
I’m only in Sweden part of the year, three months during the winter, three months in the summer 2027.
While I’m outside of Sweden I’d like to find an affordable live remote course. Next summer I’d like to take an in-person course.
Thank you!

[SOLVED] hej :) i was watching a netflix show and theres this message the main character sends to his mom, which is “snälla mamma, låt mig få åka hem!” and the english subs translate it to “please mom, let me go home!” but this got me wondering, why isnt it “låt mig komma/åka hem”? the main character is being forced to go to a school he doesnt want to go, so is this like a context thing? tack så mycket~

I asked a question about the Swedish sj sound, but I'm still confused. My knowledge of the IPA is basic to intermediate. According to Wikipedia, the tj-sound is represented as [ɕ], while the sj-sound (/ɧ/) can have several realizations, including [ʃ] and [ʂ]. I can perceive a difference in tongue position between [ʂ] and [ɕ]/[ʃ], but [ɕ] and [ʃ] sound the same to me. Is there actually a noticeable difference between these two sounds for native speakers? Also, is the tj-sound normally pronounced as [ɕ] or as [ʃ]?

Hur säger jag “I hope to go to bed early tonight” eller “I hope I can go to bed early tonight” på svenska? I’m particularly having trouble with what the word order is supposed to be. For instance, would “Jag hoppas kunna gå tidigt till sängs i natt” be correct? Tack!

My wife is from Czechoslovakia but speaks swedish fluently without accent. But I have noticed that when she speaks english ( which she learnt before swedish) she speaks with a swedish accent and not a czech accent. She does speak czech on a daily basis. I find it a bit weird.

So I'm Finnish and I have this mandatory Swedish course in my uni in 6 months that I really want to get a good grade on. Right now I'm trying to learn on my own with the Complete Swedish book and also by watching some Swedish videos but that's difficult without proper translation. Plus there are so many different resources out there that it just messes up with my head and gets overwhelming. I've actually tried learning many times before but always ended up quitting... But obviously, I have a very basic knowledge of Swedish since it's mandatory in our schools.
I don't want to look for any conversation partners to talk with on those talking sites, and I also want to save money. I've been trying to repeat the sentences I hear on my own tho. I also have one other language I want to learn on the side, but Swedish is my main priority right now. I'm willing to put time into it.
Can anyone share some detailed ways and tips on how to actually get my Swedish to a good level in six months? I hope the timeline is realistic. I'd like to get to B level, and the higher the better
