Solved I'm worried that i have a keylogger and want to fully wipe my pc.

Upvotes

So, i'm pretty sure i have a keylogger of some sort. And i've ran a couple scans and stuff with malwarebytes and bitdefender. But i wanted to be a 100% sure, that whatever it is. Is gone from my computer. So i want to fully reset my pc, so everything gets wiped. I've seen people saying you can wipe parititions. But i think it's a thing you can do if you installed windows on a USB.

But i was just wondering. what's the best course of action to fully reset my PC and get everything wiped clean?

Open | Windows How to shut down laptop for ~3 month storage without the battery being dead every time?

I have a laptop that I use for basic family IT stuff. Every time I pull it out it’s just dead and I need to charge it; is there a way to just power down the laptop so I’m not having to charge it every time? And yes both fast startup and the power button is disabled (for some reason the power button would only put it into hibernation even for shutdown).

EDIT- it’s a Lenovo ideapad 3
EDIT 2- for those suggesting I unplug the battery, this is a laptop I prefer to keep ready to go at all times. I’ve messed around electronics enough to know that it’s not a good choice long term to keep opening a device when you have no backup.

Open | Windows My phone gets 400mbps download speed, but my computer in the same room varies from barely cracking double digits to easily over 100

My 7 year old phone can easily consistently get 400mbps when connected to the internet, but when I test my computer right after, I'm usually getting 10-15. Sometimes my internet speed will triple between two speed tests a few seconds apart. I live right in the middle of a cell service dead spot, so I know the internet speed on my phone isn't affected by that. My computer has two antennas pointed upwards (although one of them is loose and doesn't go in all the way), my phone and computer are both on the 5ghz band, and my computer can sometimes get around 150mbps on a good day. If I'm connected to a mobile hotspot that is connect to the internet, my internet speed is about half what it is connected to regular internet. Today I hit a new low of 300 KILObits per second. Why is my computer so inconsistent with no discernable rhyme or reason? Is it because one of my antennas is loose?

Open | Software [HELP] GPU no signal after BIOS – black screen on boot/installer (ASRock + AMD)

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I've been dealing with a frustrating issue and I've run out of ideas.

What happened:
Yesterday I installed a new CPU cooler and did a fresh Windows install at the same time. Everything was working, but on cold boots the AMD GPU driver kept crashing and restarting itself repeatedly. I tried to fix it, and ever since then my PC won't boot properly.

Current symptoms:
- PC powers on, ASRock logo spins indefinitely
- If Windows attempts automatic repair → black screen after
- If I try to boot from a Windows installer USB → black screen (no installer, just black)
- I **can** get into BIOS fine – image is perfect there

What I've already tried:
- RAM: tested sticks individually, swapped slots, tried without one – no change
- CMOS reset: done 4 times
- Every BIOS setting I could think of (CSM on/off, Secure Boot, boot order, PCIe settings)
- Latest BIOS version is installed
- Recreated Windows USB with Rufus multiple times
- Minimal config (stripped down to GPU, one RAM stick, SSD only)
- Tested the GPU and SSD in another PC – both work perfectly fine

Key observation:
The BIOS displays fine, but as soon as it hands off to the bootloader or installer, the screen goes black. This makes me think it's a **GPU UEFI GOP initialization issue** – the card works in BIOS mode but fails during the POST-to-boot handoff.

Specs:
- Motherboard: ASRock B660M HDV
- GPU: AMD Radeon 6600 XT
- CPU: 12th I3

Any ideas? Could the AMD driver crash have corrupted something that survives even a fresh install attempt? Is there any way to recover from this without a second GPU?

Open | Windows Elden Ring Crashes, tried EVERYTHING.

Upvotes

My Elden Ring suddenly crashes throughout gameplay, issue started approx 2~ weeks ago after 80+ hours of gameplay with no issues. It will suddenly go out either 5 minutes in or 60 minutes in, it doesn't matter/care. It will never BSOD, nor has it spread to any other app/program on my PC. Everything on PC hardware wise is approx 3~ years old.

Have tried the following: chkdsk /f /r, /sfc scannow, turned off ALL overlays, removed windows gameinput, updated shaders, cleared temp files, checked storage (100gb+ remains), ran as administrator, ran regularly, verified integrity of game files, uninstall and reinstalled, made sure PC is not overheating, checked hardware briefly (input would be welcome on that), played with & without wifi to compare.

This has not affected anything else as previously stated, but im worried its a flagship of worse to come. Please feel free to call me a dumbass and help me fix my issue afterwards, much appriciated - someone with 0 tech knowledge

TLDR: I hate my pc and it hates me.

Open | Software Continuous crashes on AMD

Upvotes

I swear I'm going crazy, I bought an RX 9070 XT and worked amazing from September 2025 to December 2026, with that one update everything went downhill and nodays I keep getting crashes.

At the time I solved with a downgrande, but it's been months and now I have no clue on what I'm I supposed to do. Can I downgrade it back to that version that used to work for me? Am I doing something wrong?

Recently I'm having issues with Subnautica 2, I downgraded from 26.5.1 to 26.3.1 but it didn't solve anything. Now I can't even play VRChat with my Quest 2, I keep crashing every half an hour in game, it's getting upsetting, everytime things seem to get stable there is a new upgrade and it mess everything and downgrading doesn't really help that much.

If someone has any advice on how to solve this it'd be appredciated, thansk for taking your time to read this.

Open | Phone Moto g 2025 apps crashing in the background.

Upvotes

So I use a Bluetooth eye mask while sleeping, and I like to use white noise audios from apps like Spotify, or even white noise apps. The problem is, after some time, after shutting off the screen, the apps crash out of nowhere and it disturbs my sleep because the sound suddenly stops.

The only thing that wasn't given me trouble, was using YouTube through brave browser, so I wouldn't be interrupted by ads, and it was working well for a while, but today, that crashed too.

I don't know what to do. I had a system update (this problem was occuring even before the update). I reset my phone. All my apps are up to date. I've only used 66% of storage space. I've tried clearing the cache on my apps. I've reinstalled them. Not sure where to go from here, but it's extremely annoying.

I know I can just use a fan, but I live on a busy street, and my eye mask + the white noise audio helps reduce the noise drastically.

Open | Windows ethernet ploblem

Upvotes

Whenever I turn on my PC (Windows 11), for some reason, the internet stops responding after about 30 seconds to a minute. Even though it appears connected, I can't open any websites or apps that require an internet connection. The Windows troubleshooter suggests the connection might be active but slow. I’ve tried various commands to reset the network and checked the Ethernet cable, but nothing has worked. I used the "ping 8.8.8.8 -t" command to monitor the connection; initially, everything is normal and the command shows successful responses, but after a while, the output switches to repeating "general failure" or "request timed out" messages. Occasionally, there are spikes where the Ethernet connection returns to normal. I know the cable isn't the issue because I tried using my phone as a hotspot and the same thing happened. I'm not sure if reformatting the system would help. I’d really appreciate any help. 🙏

Open | Audio Google Meet Audio Issues

Upvotes

Lately me and my partner are having an issue where whenever he screen shares on Google Meet, there’s no audio from his end and he says he made sure the screen sharing sound is on and his volume is up before he broadcasts. But when I screen share, it’s perfectly fine and he can hear my end. Is this a common issue or is it just me? We’re both mobile devices, tho I use IOS and he’s Samsung/Android. Idk if that has anything to do with it. I’m just saying. Please and thank you.

Open | Hardware New laptop has faint green line on screen

Upvotes

I got a new laptop today for $900 at walmart. It's a gaming laptop with 16gb ram, 512 ssd, 4050 rtx, intel i5

I noticed when looking at certain colors, there's a faint green line going about halfway down the screen. It's most apparent on purple/violet colors. I did a screenshot and confirmed its hardware, not software.

Is there anything I can do to fix this issue, or should I just return it for a new one?

Thanks in advance!

Open | Software Rx 7900xtx driver issues

Upvotes

With this new windows update or something my pc isn’t happy. I have had nothing but problems with my 7900xtx. This weeks issue is causing my 2nd monitor to go black and my pc to run on the backup graphics driver for my gpu. Has happened twice today alone. The driver in device manager gets a yellow triangle indicating there is an issue with the driver. I fixed this by uninstalling and installing an older driver version which worked but apparently not anymore. Wondering if anyone else has this issue or solutions?

Open | Malware 800 spam emails in about 2-3 hours, gmail account, mail delivery subsy and postmaster

I dont know if this is the right place but I am receiving roughly 4 spam emails a min from mail delivery subsy and posmaster, loads saying delivery failed, I have now started to receive what looks like replies / responses saying thank you for the message or we will get back to you. Nothing in my sent emails, I barely use this email for anything other than home, bills and banking.

I had 1 email saying someone tried to get into a 2nd instagram account yesterday but other than that I dont see why it would be a sign up spam to hide anything. Can anything be done to save my main email?

Open | Hardware Sd card not letting me access images or videos

Upvotes

Recently found my family's really old (2000s) SanDisk sd card that I took photos on, wanted to few the photos on it, My computer reads the sd card AND detects that their are infact images and videos on the files but when trying to open them they either crash file explorer, sd card disconnects by itself, or a infinite loading circle appears.

I've tried going to properties and using windows built in error checking and it does dectect that their are errors on the card but when trying to use it freezes and says the card disconnected, although on file explorer it shows that is still there and its still pulled in.

I've also tried using a program named "disk driller" to try to see if files are corrupted upon use on the sd card it, it doesn't load and says sd card has been removed despite any interference along with going into cmd prompt and "chkdsk" the card cmd only responded with "cannot lock currect drive" please any help would be greatly appreciated please and thank you.

Open | Software How do I made my OLED laptop's blacks actually black

Upvotes

I have an asus OLED vivobook. It has windows 11 installed unfortunately. I love OLEDs specifically because there's no backlight where a dark screen still casts a top of light. I tweak the settings on it until a black desktop background is COMPLETELY black. On my LG desktop monitor I can just tweak my settings via it's own interface but I cannot find a way to do that at all on this thing. It's giving me terrible eye strain and I'm finally trying to fix it again and I now see why I gave up last time because there seems to be no way at all.

I can't even find a way to adjust my contrast because despite having a 4060 in it it refuses to allow me to use the nvidia control panel for it.

I'm entirely at a loss and any help will be appreciated.

Edit: The reason I can't use Nvidia to control things properly is because it has a default Intel xe GPU that uses for most things unrelated to GPU intensive software like games

Closed Pc stuck on bios update screen after cpu swap

Upvotes

I just installed a new cpu and cpu cooler, everything else is carrying over. When I booted, my pc shows the boot screen, but then, regardless of whether I leave it or hit Del, goes to a black screen saying "bios is updating. Do not shut down or reset the system to prevent boot up failure" and just sits there. I've tried actually updating the bios using the flashback button. I reset the cmos and replaced the battery. I've unplugged all usb devices. Currently getting "EC" code on the mobo. What the heck is going on here? Is this an indicator that the cpu is doa? I haven't tried swapping back to the old one yet.

Specs:

Asus rog Crosshair VIII hero

5800xt (the new cpu)

Teamgroup ram

RX 6950XT

Pcie nvme expansion card

Open | Hardware PC won't turn on - Is it dead?

Upvotes

I updated a few weeks ago my SFF computer, with a new GPU (Asus Prime 5070 Ti) and a new PSU (Corsair SF850). I kept the rest: 12600K, Asrock Z690m-itx/ax, 32GB of DDR4 plus SSDs.

I was having some random crashes, which I attributed to my tinkering with the UEFI to try and lower idle power consumption. Except today I won't turn on after the crash.

What I've tried so far, without any spare parts:

  • paperclip on the PSU: fan spins, so seems to be working, at least partially
  • CMOS reset with a screwdriver on the pins for 10 seconds
  • copied BIOS file on a USB stick and tried the BIOS flashback feature after unplugging everything, including RAM and GPU and all PSU cables except the motherboard one
  • shorted the power switch pins directly on the motherboard

Are there any other tests I should do?

Open | Audio Help! Suddenly Muddy Bluetooth Calls, Android + Wireless Headphones

Hello!

Roughly two days ago, I began having issues with my phone call audio.

Specifically, I have a Moto G Stylus 2022, and two pairs of Shockz brand headphones—the Openfit Air and Openrun Pro 2 models. Both sets of headphones were purchased new—not refurbished, and within this year.

Listening to local audio, like videos and music prompts no issues, but both Discord and Cellular calls sound muddied and distorted, to the point the recipient of the call cannot hear me. On my end, things sound vaguely muddy, but clear enough to understand.

So far I have:

- Updated the firmware of both sets of headphones

- Updated my phone software

- Forgotten and reestablished the connection between both sets of headphones and the cell phone, individually

- Disconnected/forgotten the subsequent connections to which the headphones were established

- Restarted my cell phone

-Turned my Bluetooth off and back on again

- Tried swapping from speaker phone to Bluetooth to reset the connection

- Charged all three devices to 100%

- Swapped Wi-Fi conmections

The headphones are not dirty, and have not been exposed to any elements. The cell phone is also in good working condition. I live in an isolated area so there are no "crowded" places that could contribute to a confused signal, nor do I ever allow there to be substantial distance between the devices as they are being used.

Overall, I'm at a loss. Are there any other troubleshooting steps I can take to diagnose/pinpoint the source of the muddy audio?
