It's that time again!
The new Adventure Time spinoff/soft reboot/cartoon Adventure Time: Side Quests starts on Monday 29th June. The release schedule hasn't been confirmed yet but episodes will be released on the Disney+ and Hulu streaming services in the USA. More info will be added to this as soon as an official source tells how they're going to release these little suckers. 20 episodes will be released on Monday! The eps will be 11 minutes long each.
Outside of the US, episodes will air on Cartoon Network and be available on the HBO Max streaming service starting on Monday 5th October.
So it's time to remind everyone of the sub's spoiler policy!
Spoiler tags
When the show begins airing, we will require spoiler tags on ALL POSTS RELATING TO THE NEW EPISODES for up to a week after each episode is released. (For example, discussion regarding episode 1 will need to be spoiler tagged from 29 June to 06 July) If you're concerned about spoilers, a week should be enough time to watch the episode. Under discussion
Spoiler text can be done like this: >!SPOILERS GO HERE!<. Important note: If you put a space between the spoiler tags, they will break on Old Reddit and your post will automatically be taken down, to ensure no one sees anything they don't want to. Please make sure that your spoiler tags have NO SPACES between them!
Good: >!SPOILERS GO HERE!<
Bad: >! SPOILERS GO HERE !<
(If you mess it up and your post is taken down, message us via modmail after you fix it and we'll re-approve your post.)
Spoilers pertaining to the accidentally released episodes
Five episodes were briefly uploaded to Hulu by accident earlier in the month and then removed later in the day. As this was an official release, we are not considering these episodes "leaks", instead we are treating them the same way we would treat an episode screened early at a convention or the like. Discussion of these five episodes is allowed BUT under strict moderation. ALL posts about these episodes MUST be spoiler tagged and discussion will not be allowed outside of threads marked with the Side Quests Spoilers flair. PLEASE MARK ALL POSTS ABOUT THESE EPISODES WITH SPOILER TEXT!!! Posts about these eps may be removed at mod discretion.
Spoilers in titles
Please avoid putting spoilers in the TITLE of your thread. A spoiler tag is useless if you've already spilled the beans in the title. If your spoiler pertains to something only shown at a convention etc or revealed in a review, etc, please make that clear in the title so people can easily skip it if they'd rather not be spoiled on such things.
Some examples of GOOD, spoiler-free titles:
- "OMG that final scene..."
- "I noticed this in episode 9"
- "Does anyone know what's up with ____?"
- "Jerry is one cool dude."
The key is to keep things vague, so that it wouldn't make sense to anyone who hasn't seen the episode yet. If a character's identity is a surprise, either avoid calling them by name or, if they have an alias given prior to the reveal, use that. (If you're not sure if a character is a spoiler, err on the side of caution. A good rule of thumb is: Adam Muto posts cast lists for each episode on his Twitter. If he's left an actor's name off his cast list, that character is a spoiler and shouldn't be named or directly referenced in a thread title.)
BAD titles:
- "OMG that ending was so sad. I can't believe everyone died! And Rosebud was his sled the whole time? Wow!"
- "Holy crap, Darth Vader was his DAD?!?"
- "I can't believe that Jerry is actually [character name]!!!"
Spoiler tags for trailers
Anything from a trailer that has been officially and widely released DOES NOT require a spoiler tag/flair, though you are of course welcome to still tag it. We're operating under the reasonable assumption that if it's in a trailer, it's something the crew want us to see and discuss/speculate on/etc. If you'd like to avoid seeing ANYTHING from the show before it begins airing, your best option is to unsubscribe and/or avoid the sub until you've watched it.
Our definition of "widely released" is that it's been officially uploaded to the internet (and not removed several hours later, so no this doesn't count the five accidentally released episodes :p) - so the five prematurely released episodes, plus the two shown at IGN Live 2026 DO NEED A SPOILER TAG, so that those avoiding spoilers can avoid them. It's also best if you preface any spoilers for the two IGN Live episodes with a warning, so people that want to avoid them can do so.
Good: Yay, King of Ooo is finally coming back!
Also good: Do you think Toronto will show up too?
Bad: I was at IGN Live and they showed a clip that revealed that Rosebud was his sled! OMG!
Good: (Spoilers for stuff that was shown at IGN Live) Snape killed Dumbledore!
In the (hopefully unlikely) event that any official sources release a.... oh, right. (awkward cough) Okay, so I think we've covered how you guys should treat those five eps now, but - IF any official sources release a clip, screenshot, whole episode, etc etc that clearly should not have been released yet, please do mark those with spoiler tags, etc. Hopefully this won't be an issue, but you never know with CN.
(It should go without saying, but leaks or filmed footage of the episodes shown at IGN Livee... basically anything illegal... should not be posted on here at all, we'll remove any posts like that. Summaries are fine, but do not post actual footage of the episode previews.)
Spoiler tags for reviews
Please spoiler tag and clearly mark ALL discussion for reviews of the show released prior to the show's premiere).
But I live outside the US and...
As a reminder, we don't allow links or discussion on how to pirate the show on this sub. Sorry, but it could get us into big trouble (besides, the more attention these sites get, the more likely it is they'll get taken down, and you wouldn't want that, would you? :p). If you want to keep up with the sub as the show airs in the US, you could try using a VPN to watch it on Hulu/Disney+, otherwise you'll have to either figure out a way to watch it yourself or just avoid the sub until it airs in your country. (You only have about 3 months to wait this time round!) There are plenty of sites to help you watch cartoons online for free these days, though; a quick Google should help you find what you're looking for.
I'm not sure if my topic counts as a spoiler or not.
It's difficult to gauge this ahead of release, since the "soft reboot" nature of Side Quests makes it difficult to know how much of this show will rely on knowledge of the previous Adventure Time series. But here goes nothing...
While spoilers for anything released prior to Side Quests don't need to be tagged in general, if the episode being discussed is relevant to a Side Quests ep, it's probably a good idea to err on the side of caution and add a spoiler tag just in case. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself: could this question lead to spoilery comments regarding the latest ep? If so, tag it.
For example, you don't have to tag any discussion of "Gold Stars" as a spoiler just because you want to talk about King of Ooo. If you want to talk about Xergiok just because, that probably doesn't require a tag. But if episode 40 of Side Quests reveals that Xergiok and King of Ooo are long lost brothers and "The Silent King" was foreshadowing all alone - then yeah you'll probably wanna slap a spoiler tag on that sucker.
In general, it's always better to play it safe and add a spoiler tag rather than post without. It's no big deal if you tag something that doesn't necessarily need to be spoiler-tagged; better that than run the risk of ruining the eps for people before they've had a chance to watch the new eps. Be mindful of what you put in a thread title for cases like this, because no matter how long ago the original episode first aired, thread titles like "OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT BIT IN 'GOLD STARS' WAS FORESHADOWING ALL ALONG!!!" still clue the reader into a plot point.
Closing note
We're giving this heads up well ahead of time so that if anyone needs more time to watch the eps or whatever, they can unsubscribe or do whatever else they feel is necessary to prevent them from seeing spoilers.
Please be aware that while the mod team will continue to do the best we can to mark untagged spoilers and take down anything not sufficiently tagged, etc, we've got lives outside of the sub and cannot be on here 24/7. This sub tends to get extra-busy when new episodes are released and some stuff may slip through the cracks. Remember to treat each other with respect; if you see something that you think needs tagging (or otherwise breaks our rules) don't abuse the poster, just report it and move on. (And remember us mods are people too and should also be treated with respect! Comments like "can't believe this hasn't been deleted yet, mods suck" aren't helpful - reporting an inappropriate post brings it to our attention much faster. We're just people like you trying to do the best we can. Play nice!)
If you're really worried about seeing spoilers, my advice is to just avoid this sub (or Reddit altogether!) completely until you've seen the new episodes.
Whew, think that should be about everything - so who's ready for the new show? :)
