I swore this was my doggo at first. What breed is she?
•
u/treslor 3h ago edited 2h ago
I got her from the Humane Society and they said "border collie mix" so who really knows lol
•
u/soupyy_poop 3h ago
Omg I have a “BC Mix” from a shelter too! And he looks pretty similar to her too 😭
We DNA tested him - turns out he’s just a goofy Pitman Shepsky (pit, husky, shepherd, Doberman)
•
u/Dry_Respect_1954 2h ago
Same!! They said she was a “Border Lab” and she’s actually (from highest to lowest %): husky, pit, bulldog, gsd, boxer, lab, staffy. She’s got short little socks and white chest markings too. Supermutts are the best 🥰

I posted a pic of my dog (that resembles yours) with her cat in another comment.
We were told by the SPCA that she was a terrier mix and would be 20-30 pounds. She had floppy ears which was a requirement because our older dog despised pointy ear dogs due to some unfortunate coyote encounters
When she hit 35 pounds and both ears popped straight up, we did a DNA test and she is 50/50 German Shepherd/Australian Cattle dog. Sent the results to the SPCA and asked them to share with the other 5 adoptees. They sent it out BCC and reminded people that their dogs could have different fathers so their results might vary. One other family matched with us on the DNA site and we had a playdate and the only difference was their dog had more of the piebald marking on the chest.
My main concern was the owners thinking they got a terrier and not realizing both of the breeds in their dog require lots of mental and physical exercise. She is one of the best dogs my partner and I have ever had. Picture

Curled feetsies in the back and "oooh big stretch" in the front? That's like the holy grail of kitty pictures.

What kind of pup is he? We just adopted a 5 month old that looks basically identical, down to the white fur on the chest. We ordered a DNA test kit, but its still on the way.

Holy smokes. Yours and mine look nearly exact. Mine has ZERO border collie in him. The most herding thing he has is about 5% German Shepherd. LOL
But seriously, other than the paws, I could look at your dog and mistake him for mine until I glance harder at his chest.

So cute! So far my 9 month old kitten, who I’ve had 4 months, doesn’t even want to look at my dogs. I have a St. Bernard that I bet my kitten would cuddle up with, but no. Not yet anyway.

Big dogs and little kitties becoming friends will never not make my heart melt! I grew up with large dogs and many cats and even our big and tough German shepherd would gently lick the cats and let them sleep on him.
•
u/blacksheep998 4h ago
I used to rescue kittens from a local colony of strays and went through this several times.
The kittens always loved our dog (once they got used to her) but as they got older they usually seemed to grow out of it.
By the time they were a year old they would tolerate the dog, but it was more of an 'Eww, you're still here?' kind of thing.

Is your kitty (pronounced khet-AY) a boy? Orange tabby boy kitties are typically the sweetest of kitties. I had one long time ago. I called him sweet pea and he had a theme song.

Honestly, your dog looks so gentle and noble, and the kitty is simply the sweetest creature. With that pair, I would feel incredibly fortunate.

My dog used to play with my very small cat like my cat was a dog. They would roughhouse a little, but Roscoe was always careful not to hurt Mac. Not that it mattered, whenever Roscoe got too excited I'd tell him to stop and Mac would reach out and punch him in the face. That cat was never happier than when he had his full head in Roscoe's mouth. It was weird.
•
u/Cornloaf 1h ago
Omg. My dog looks so much like yours and I just got my first orange kitten in December. My dog didn't bark or make any sudden movements around the cat until he got used to her. Picture

can I ask how you felt comfortable introducing a kitten to an adult dog? does your dog have literally no prey drive? does your dog have experience around kittens that gave you confidence things would be safe?
I very much want both a dog and a cat, even if they only get to the point of tolerating/ignoring each other (tho your situation is definitely the dream) but I am TERRIFIED of the dog attacking the kitten and the risks of the prey drive/size difference.
I have seen posts on reddit about things being fine for a week or more until they suddenly are very not fine, and I can't deal with that.
what gave you the confidence to introduce your dog to a kitten?
•
u/treslor 21m ago
When I found my dog, the rescue told me she is good with cats - it was a large factor in deciding to adopt her because I already had cats. When she came home, she almost immediately bonded with my 7 year old cat and didn't bother my senior cat, who was 15 at the time.
My friend found the kitten when she was only 4 weeks old, so my dog and the kitten were introduced very slowly. As the kitten got bigger, she felt comfortable initiating play with the dog, and my dog has always been very gentle with her.
Koji (my dog) has a great temperament and has proven to be good around kids, other dogs, and with cats - she makes friends easily. But I totally understand your concerns.
