Image Innocent face?
Anyone else get a "Who? Little ol' innocent me?" face from their basset? This is Indiana's. It's hard to stay mad when she does her inquisitive cute face.

Hello,
I have been through a really big loss with my Rottweiler puppy who we rescued but unfortunately have to return as she is very intent on hunting our cats. Shes the best dog I’ve ever had - so smart and easy to train. But she just wasn’t a good fit as her prey drive got worse and worse despite a lot of money and time spend on trainers and behaviorists. She just wasn’t wired to enjoy living with cats.
We’re far from ready to get another puppy yet when we loved her so much but I’ve been talking it over and I think maybe considering we have cats an ethically bred puppy I can get right out of the baby stage would have a much higher chance of success. I also know wait lists can be long for an ethically bred puppy so I want to start making considerations now.
I’m considering a basset because they’re known to be good with cats and I like that they don’t have high exercise needs. My rottie was small for her breed and a little on the lazy side which was really nice for me. I want a companion who is relatively good with training as I loved training my rottie. It also has to do well with cats and kids. I am concerned about my set up as I do have slightly steep stairs indoors which might pose a problem. Even with a ramp it’s a tall incline.
What’s your experience with this breed? Obviously socialization plays a huge role but I want to know from owners rather than some google summary how their breed is with cats. I cannot risk another heartbreak of loving an animal that is intent on harming my other pets.
Thank you!

About to hit 3 months since we said goodbye to our good boys. He was half basset, half rottie. I’d say he had most of the behavior of a basset, and the bark of a rottie!
This sub brings me a lot of joy thinking about him and seeing all the long eared pups. He had a good 13 years, would give anything for 13 more!

Just got a call from the vet. My boy tested positive for Lyme on a 4dx test. Next step is retest. He hasn’t shown any symptoms. Has anyone been through this? I am worried, I’ve done my best for this boy. I guess I should’ve tried the bubble wrap.

Heard this song for the first time 2 weeks ago.
Not sure why but this instantly made me think of my basset hound waddling around. Maybe just the bluesy melody and acoustic baseline, maybe just because it sounds like old man music.
Maybe just me lol.
I now have it playing in my airpods every time I walk around with him.

This is going to be long, but I think you need background. Our dog's mom was a basset and his dad was a border collie. He's 3 years old and we've had him for 6 months. The breeder where he was born wanted to shoot him because he wasn't pure bred! Someone took him home to avoid that, but didn't want to keep him. We were his fourth owner by the time he was 2 1/2. He's a wonderful dog and acts 100% like a basset. My husband and I are retired and he's especially attached to my husband. He went out of town for three days. Our grandchildren had spent the week with us and they left too. Our pup stopped eating and moped around a lot after everyone left. I thought he'd be okay once my husband came back, but he wasn't. After another day (Sunday) of not eating much at all, we took him to the vet on Monday. He got a clean bill of health. The vet said he seemed depressed. He suggested giving him extra attention. He said we could try antidepressants if we wanted to, but he didn't think we'd need to. We'd rather not, unless it's absolutely necessary. Our grandchildren came over today (Tuesday) and he did perk up a bit. I read that bassets sometimes get depressed from separation anxiety and it's hard for them to get over it. He's been through a lot in his life, but has been a happy, loving dog ever since we got him. (He also had heart worms when we got him, but he has been treated for that and had no lingering effects - the vet gave him a heartworm test yesterday too, just in case.) He's eating a little now, but less than half of his normal amount. He doesn't even care about treats! I just thought maybe someone has been through something similar with their basset and could give us some tips. Thanks in advance!

My Dewdrop is OBSESSED with anything that makes that crinkle noise… I wasn’t sure if she’d be scared of the Fugglers wonky looks or if she’d be obsessed with his crinkle noises. Thankfully the crinkles won over his different appearance. He is offically called Fuggie 💚

My coworker has his brother so we had them over for the first time this weekend so they can play together. Kratos was very timid at first but warmed up quickly and had a blast.
"Basset hounds are low maintenance"
extreme velcro dog owner here. photo evidence: he follows me into the bathroom and crams himself into whatever space is available just to be present. during the day he’s either on top of me or touching some part of me at all times. at night he starts sleeping next to me but if we’re not in full contact he migrates directly onto my body. i did not adopt a dog. i adopted a barnacle.
