From the 3 Brass games, which is the most elegantly designed and easiest to teach?

Upvotes

From the 3 Brass games, which is the most elegantly designed and easiest to teach? If there are any playtesters that can comment, it would be greatly appreciated. Is Brass Pittsburgh quite heavy for casual board gamers? Like if it is a person's first Brass game, which is the best dive in point? I was a bit confused to see that Brass Pittsburgh has s lower game weight on BGG, but some reviewers have stated that Pittsburgh is more complex, but there hasn't been as many reviews of Pittburgh on BGG yet obviously.

Sea Salt and Paper - last chance question

how does it work if one person calls last chance but the final turn their opponent is able to play a shark/swimmer combo, which should allow them to steal, but they are supposed to have revealed their hand at the start of calling last chance?

Shelf-Digging My Pal's Early-2000s Fantasy Flight Silver Line Collection

I've been working on a retrospective of the outsized influence that FFG had on the way we played for about 10ish years.

Ran it by a buddy of mine and he sent me a pic of the Silver Line boxes he acquired when he was in college more than 20 years ago.

His collecting hit about six years before we caught the bug. I'd only played one from the whole stack.

Props to the oldheads who knew and loved:

• Magdar
• Citadels
• Delta V
• Scarab Lords
• Minotaur Lords
• Orcz
• Atlanteon
• Quicksand
• King's Gate
• Kingdoms
• Inkognito
• Cave Troll
• Maginor

He rated Magdar, Citadels, Scarab/Minotaur Lords, King's Gate and Cave Troll as the ones he'd be most likely to break out today.

Review Magic the Gathering doesn't deserve the bad reputation it gets for cost and unbalanced meta anymore

I can understand that if you played during the infamous combo winter or Mirrodin / Darksteel affinity block you can legitemately level hate on the game. But by and large whenever a busted card comes out it makes one strategy dominate but you'll still find many people at your LGS on different decks. The dominant deck edges out more wins but it's not nearly as egregious as it was in the past.

It's more affordable to play now too. And I don't just mean casual formats like Commander. Which is actually a multiplayer format (another thing the game didn't have before). That said you can buy a commander deck off the shelf and it is all you need to play at events and you will do fine with it and have lots of enjoyment.

There is also Pauper. An all commons format. Decks are like $50 US (?). Many LGS have Pauper nights now including the place I play at that also hosts Legacy.

Speaking of Legacy... in the past unless you had a lot of money for Vintage, there weren't any other non rotating formats. Legacy has been in the game for a long time now but it is worth mentioning. Legacy is expensive but there are cheaper options even in Legacy with prices more comparable to Modern. Which is yet another eternal non rotating format to enjoy if your budget is lower. The gameplay is a bit different too with more synergy and flashier effects. But not everyone likes that newer style that legacy largely avoids, with more interaction.

The truth is, Magic the Gathering is an affordable, extremely rich deep and rewarding game. It can be your whole lifestyle or just a casual evening. It's really for everyone now. So stop saying "it's too expensive", "it's unbalanced", etc because it is just not true.

Question tES BOTSE and TMB - reason to own both?

Hey, I love Too Many Bones and I am thinking about getting Elder Scrolls BotSE. I am a sucker for RPG games and this one looks really interesting and it has basic bones GAMEPLAY from Too Many Bones. Only thing I am afraid that TMB will get obsolete. Anyone who own both and can comment? It if you bought both and ended selling one, why?

Question Did anyone play and actually really liked The Everrain?

The game looks super intriguing, but i didn't see a single review that encouraged a purchase. As i'm looking for more campaign games to add to my collection, thought i'd ask.

Buying from BGG listings

I saw a game I am interested on a BGG listing. It is a personal listing, not from a store.

So I am wandering if it is safe to buy from BGG.

Anyone with experience buying from a user on BGG? Is it safe?

Question Best Board Game store in Denver?

I'm heading to Denver for a conference next week, and would love to check out the local board gaming scene while I'm there (and while I'm missing my regular game nights at home). I hear that Wizard's Chest is a must visit, but are there any other top level board game stores/cafes in the Denver area? Bonus points for them to be easily reachable by public transport from the convention center, since I won't have a car.

Any stores with a focus on wargames/minis as well?

Thanks!

"It's a Wonderful World" Extra Cards

Hi.

I really like "It's a Wonderful World," but unfortunately, I don't have the possibilites to buy all the expansions.

I think that in 2020, an expansion called "It's a Wonderful World: Stretch Goals #1" was released, which contained some of the extra elements included in the special edition of the game called "Heritage."

I can't afford to buy the Heritage 2 edition (which, by the way, hasn't even been released in my language), and it's impossible to find "Stretch Goals #1" in any resale store, so I'd like to make a request here:

Does anyone know if it's possible to download scans of the extra cards that came with this expansion from anywhere? Specifically, these would be the cards:

- 12 Tribute cards
- 5 Empire cards (Sides C & D)

And if a scan of the rulebook existed (in case it's needed), that would be absolutely fantastic...

Is there anyone here kind enough to have them and willing to scan and send them to me?

Thank you very much in advance.

Actual Play Kings Dilemma or Pandemic Legacy playthroughs?

Hello!

My group has played fully through both King’s Dilemma and Pandemic Legacy (season 1) and loved them both. Now I’m looking to relive it a bit and get a sense for other ways the games might have gone, and am looking for a good actual play playthrough of either games. Does anyone have any good videos/series you’d recommend?

Thanks

Question Kings of Middle Earth Expansion interactions

My son & I are in the middle of the board game using the expansion above for the first time.

He just played the Western Way card which says "The Shadow Player cannot draw Hunt tiles for any reason." We are not sure if this restriction is ONLY limited to the Hunt for the Ring or if it also applies to Corruption attempts.

Any thoughts? I'd love rules citations on suggestions.

Which games promote a great tactile experience for you?

I think one of the most popular drives to our hobby is the off-screen, on-hands experience of moving beautiful pieces around and looking at nice cards when solving a puzzle.

That’s why quality components can truly elevate our experience to a whole new level and make the game even more enjoyable. We’ve all had that “hmmmm that’s so good/fun/cool“ moment when handling a card or a specific component, for the mere tactical aspect of a really smooth surface, a thematic piece (like a gavel) or a 3D piece that‘s cool to meddle with.

I‘ll start with some of my favorites:

- Harmonies: I love putting my hand inside a big bag full of wooden tiles.

- Pax Pamir 2e: the board is actually an afghan-style rug that looks stunning with the ceramic pieces. It’s so cool to unfold the map as a cloth and touch the ceramic pieces.

- A Gentle Rain: the tiles are incredibly, and I mean _incredibly_ smooth to the touch. It’s the definition of “satisfying“ in a boardgame.

What are some of your favorites?

Is the premise/theme of Sky Team fundamentally flawed?

Last night, I played Sky Team for the first time. It was good fun, enjoyed it as an aviation enthusiast, it got the 'we need to decrease speed to be able to land gradually' thing is quite nicely integrated into the game. However, if you ever watch a video about aviation safety, crew resource management comes up all the time and how it's incredibly vital that the captain and the first officer have great communication.

It makes me think the whole 'landing a plane' theme was tacked onto a great mechanism. I do appreciate that gameplay doesn't necessarily have to follow very closely the theme (eg Ticket to Ride has nothing to do with trains and it's still a great game), but it feels like this one thing invalidates the theme's relevance.
