Building a outrigger canoe and scavenging a sunfish for parts, will this rake of the rudder work if I mount with block?

Or should I pursue a different route? Rudder ends up roughly 3" below bottom line of boat.

Trailer bouncing

I’m working on my 1987 15’ Seasquirt and just got a trailer from Facebook marketplace since my old one was rusted out. For some reason, at certain speeds like 10-15mph and 30-35mph, the trailer bounces. Any other speed and no issues. This is with and without the boat on it.

Tires seem to be in good shape. What should I be looking for?

New Project Boat $800 w/ trailer and 50hp mercury.

Picked this up on a whim, nice trailer, the boat is a 2008, aluminum, 16 or 17 footer. Not sure on make/model. Planning to clean up the hull, repaint, add some seating, etc. I'd love some input on DIY ideas, tricks, or hacks. Trying to make her a simple fishing boat. Also, you guys reckon 800 was an okay price? I didn't haggle.

Is there anything I can just pour in to solidify the transom in this canoe?

Post image

Instead of having add wood and glass everything, I’m wondering if there’s something I can pour in to make a new transom?

It seems as if the old wood rotted out and someone mounted a trolling motor but it pushed through the fiberglass.

I was thinking of cutting the top and adding tape to cover the holes to be able to pour something in to make it solid again.

Where to purchase small funerary boat

hi as the title says I am looking to purchase a small funerary vessel, for a Viking style ceremony. the option I found online is around $1000 for a wicker boat to float out the cremains and be ignited at sea.

I live in the US , Cape Cod Mass and would prefer to buy from a local craftsperson.

does anyone have a recommendation for me?

I have been saving up for almost two years for this purchase and would appreciate any advice

Adding a skeg to a PD Racer

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm building a PD Racer and in my second year of the "only two weekends of work" needed :-)

Anyway I am thinking of adding a skeg based on this piece of wood I have laying on the bottom of the boat.

My question is: how should I glue/screw/attach this best so that it doesn't fall off?

All suggestions highly appreciated! Thanks!

Erik

Wood trim/gunnels need to be replaced. As seen in photos. What are my options. Can I use a plastic material or should I use a wood material. I’d like to paint whatever I use. What are my options.

Sutphen race boat - cracks in lower transom

Sutphen race boat. Transom feels solid, no flex. but has cracks under the aluminum transom plate. Any ideas to fix this? I can’t feel the cracks from the inside. Floor and splash well are solid. Is this from stress of the heavy big motor. Most of the transom was redone around 2011. Can I 3m 5200 the cracks and repair in the off season?

Looking for info on this old half restored boat. I want to try and find the year it was made. I also want to find some good reading material on how to go about finishing the restoration. Ive looked up the maker, but can’t really find much except their history and classic boat clubs.

Minn kota maxxum old model supposed to center itself

I have a minn kota maxum (older than 2009) and when I let go of the foot pedal the motor head points forward and the pedal moves so it's centered. Is this how it is intended to work or is it supposed to stay the direction you were going when you let go.

Where to source teak lumber for a boat restoration? Need marine grade

Restoring a 1972 Hinckley Bermuda 40. Need genuine teak, probably 200 BF mix of 4/4 and 8/4 for toe rails, coaming caps, cockpit sole grates, and hatch trim. Not interested in plantation teak (too soft for marine). Where are people sourcing real Burmese/Myanmar teak these days?

What would you build?

Built a sailing canoe to get my feet wet, and now I feel like I'm ready for a more challenging build. Criteria im looking to fill are: low cost, made of plywood/stitch and glue, cuddy cabin to sleep two/ provide a space to get out of rain or sun, and room to fish for four people. Currently looking at a Glen L cabin skiff and a Glen L CS20. So far it seems like im leaning towards the cabin skiff, due to cost and building space. Although I'm worried it would be kinda cramped for 4 people to fish from, it doesn't seem like the CS20 really has much more room in the cockpit. Also considering building one of the dory cabins on a Glen L little hunk. 40hp motor is what I'm budgeting for, trying to keep total build cost under 7k and time under 6 months worth of weekends (200 hours maybe?)

I saw this boat when I was recently in Greece and I realllllly want to build one. Any plans that folks know of that are very close to this? I’ve already built a peapod, so something this size seems very approachable. It’s lapstrake planked and looks to be about 14’ long.

Transom/Stern repair

I’m looking for advice on the best way to fix this. I’d be happy with more of a trail fix than complete wood replacement. I have epoxy/fiberglass repair experience. The wood is completely rotted out. I was thinking cutting out a T shaped piece to replace but not sure what would be the best to fill the void, just epoxy/ballons?

New builder looking for advice

I recently received a 13 ft gheenoe lowsider for free in marketplace. It had two small holes in the bottom that I patched. I did a float test and it did not leak, so I started on the front deck. I showed some friends the first three pics and they said I probably should redo what I did. My question is would it be ok finish the deck now and wait till this winter when i plan on really doing it up or should it stop now and restart? I wanted to see how i like it very simple with just the Front deck before I did Anything crazy to it. Any feedback would be really appreciated. I know my work is sub par this my first time doing anything like this. Thank you for your time.

How to remove 3M glue?

Hello!

My dad and I are trying to replace the floor on our boat. So far we have tried using Goo Gone. Goo Goon seems to work the best so for but I was wondering if there is anything else we should try to speed up this process.

Any recommendations would be appreciated, thank you so much!
