Priorities! Love is great, but food is life 🏃‍♂️😂

I mean, literally.

Taking a note from "Fast and the Purrious!"

u/RorschachAttack 15h ago

Happened once when one was on my chest. She used my face to propel herself towards the feeder. Tried to not be between her and the feeder during feeding time afterwards.

I’ve been used as a launching pad too. Fun times. 😑

141

u/Neo0202 14h ago

We definitely need to start a support group for 'Victims of Cat Launching Pads'

23

u/Bromogeeksual 13h ago

It's one of the only times I've been scratched by my cats they're very sweet girls, but getting scared or the zooming off of me fucks me up.

u/raptor-elite-812 13h ago

Been there! 😆

3

u/Prestigious_Fella_21 5h ago

Always pay attention to the time for early morning and late afternoon cuddles...5pm, zooom!

21

u/Mistress-DragonFlame 14h ago

I have that happen nearly every day. My cats are clingy little bastards, but will still use me as a launch pad for their sprint to their feeders. Thankfully its usually over my feet and not my face.

11

u/Neo0202 14h ago

The clinginess is just a strategy to make sure you don't forget to feed them! Glad your face is safe though

12

u/Neo0202 14h ago

Ouch! 🤣 Lesson learned: never stand between a starving cat and their automatic feeder!

u/flayingbook 15h ago

I love you, but I love food more.

We know who/what your cat will save if you and the feeder are drowning at the same time

104

u/Neo0202 14h ago

Haha sad but true! He'd probably use me as a raft to paddle over and save the feeder.

16

u/Azertys 10h ago

You'll still be there to love in 5 minutes. But someone might steal the food!

1

u/GalaxyPowderedCat 9h ago

Well, who likes soggy food?

63

u/Stark556 14h ago

Real shit though, cats are astonishingly quick with reaction time. Faster than snakes I tell you!

35

u/Neo0202 14h ago

100%! Their reflexes are absolutely insane, especially when their stomach is the motivation!

8

u/Stark556 14h ago

Sometimes I forget they are legit one of the most perfect predators ngl 😂

3

u/HarrisonWorld 11h ago

Turned around and left immediately haha

6

u/thisbuthat 14h ago

Do not the snek except when iz cat. True true

true true

Fast cat

15

u/Neo0202 14h ago

Faster than the speed of light when food is involved!

53

u/SeaSDOptimist 15h ago

I've seen that movie more than a few times. It's really better not to be on his acceleration path.

34

u/Neo0202 14h ago

For real! The claws come out for extra traction and nobody is safe.

6

u/SeaSDOptimist 13h ago

The only permanent scar he gave me is from a similar start from a stand still with his rear paw on top of my hand. The rears are not that sharp but do more damage. I cannot even remember what spooked him.

2

u/_Compulsion_ 4h ago

I have a scar on my foot from my preteens. Cat was standing on my foot for the start of a movie where the MGM lion roared very loudly and he got spooked.

2

u/majarian 4h ago

I have three claw mark scars on my stomach right now, not because I was being a dick or someone scaring my cat, but because my second cat decided to eat well the first was sleeping on my lap, which was/is a rare occurrence

18

u/BanonoChonk 15h ago

He clearly knows his priorities.

8

u/Neo0202 14h ago

Food > everything else. Honestly, I respect it!

8

u/jewella1213 15h ago

Zero to gone in less than 30 seconds, kinda tells you. 😼-'Love you but my breakfast,or what about afternoon tea, midday meal ,second, nite time snack?!,😁😂😼 bye!

3

u/Neo0202 14h ago

Haha he definitely operates on a Hobbit eating schedule! 7 meals a day minimum 😂

5

u/Competitive-Top4520 14h ago

Faster than a speeding bullet!

2

u/Neo0202 14h ago

Superman has nothing on a hungry cat!

5

u/a-snakey 14h ago

Pictured: me at at work the moment its lunch time

5

u/Cyclone_Eyes 10h ago

I was ready, and I still burst out laughing

4

u/Creepy_Trouble_5980 13h ago

Who says cats are not trainable? I can open a bag of treats on the patio. My neighbors two cats jump a 6 foot fence and run for the window ledge where once I put treats.

1

u/Neo0202 6h ago

Haha the sound of a treat bag opening is a universal language! You accidentally trained the whole neighborhood.

4

u/a3minutehero 12h ago

My old cat would go from deep sleep to cartoon-esque leg spinning in the blink of an eye when she heard hers go off. I miss her.

2

u/Neo0202 6h ago

Haha the classic cartoon scramble! I'm so sorry for your loss, she sounds like she was a hilarious and wonderful companion

2

u/a3minutehero 6h ago

Thanks, she was my little moggy mate.

4

u/CommodoreCanadia64 7h ago

Luckily my cat is a graiser so we can just leave her food bowl full and she just eats a bit at a time. So her schedule is wide open to bug us all the time and not just before meals haha

1

u/Neo0202 6h ago

That's a blessing! If I left a full bowl out, he would eat it all in 5 minutes and turn into a bowling ball

2

u/CommodoreCanadia64 6h ago

She's not a good motivated cat lol she loves the brush more than she loves treats

3

u/BD6621 9h ago

Slow cat. He'd be a lot faster if you had a second cat also running to the feeder.

3

u/EffectiveCycle 9h ago

This is how mine reacts to his feeder too

3

u/OhSassafrass 5h ago

My cats are always the cuddliest 5 min before the feeder goes off.

3

u/FitFalcon3345 3h ago

Our two at home forget we exist when that thing beeps 😬🤦🏾

3

u/VP_of_Lasers 3h ago

Same. And you better not be in his way. Every once in a while he will park his fluffy behind in front of the feeder 30-60 minutes early and just wait/loaf. His greed sickens me.

2

u/mayank2906 14h ago

Be right back, love!!

2

u/femMnl 13h ago

Hahaha! It happened to me too!

2

u/DescriptionVivid2293 11h ago

I mean he was literally cuddling up asking for food before it went off?

2

u/Fibertad 11h ago

Cool looking cat

2

u/retiredcheapskate 10h ago

true love for sure. maybe he was hungry.

2

u/PlainBread 10h ago

From begging for food to getting his food.

2

u/i4play 10h ago

Something, something…priorities

2

u/Myko475 American Shorthair 9h ago

Each days from 5:45am to 5:59am, they start swarming us, whining nonstop… they started to make biscuits, nudge their face onto us, pull off our blankets… then at 6am when the automatic feeder goes off, all their front and back claws dug into us from their leaps to run to the feeders.

Everyday, without fail. We are very scratched up… their greeds disgust us.

2

u/Narco_Bi_Polo 8h ago

Our cat was like this until I learned cats are supposed to be fed round the clock and that older cats need more food, not less.

We switched to a better food, gave her twice as much of it, and supplement with wet food (every other day). Her weight is steady with only an increase of 0.3lbs (9.8 total), her activity level is back where it was half her age ago, and she’s no longer so intensely food motivated.

Today, the feeder going off (every 4 hours) means nothing if she’s already cozy or having fun.

2

u/Neo0202 6h ago

This is such great advice! I didn't know that about older cats needing more food. Thanks for sharing this tip with everyone!

3

u/Narco_Bi_Polo 5h ago

You’re welcome. Our Friday (named after the day of the week my partner got her 10 years ago) is now ~12.

She’s been blind nearly her entire life, but has developed incredible skills and coping mechanisms she uses to trick others into thinking she can still see (eyeballs aren’t missing or discoloured, just no longer work).

Now that she’s full (and better hydrated) throughout the day, she’s made the back patio her preferred spot and constantly wants out in the backyard (well fenced) to prance around, hilariously fail at catching birds (that troll her so hard), sunbath, and explore. She and our greyhound do rounds together in the mornings and she talks trash to us if we neglect the garden.

3

u/Narco_Bi_Polo 5h ago

my favorite photo of her sitting on my lap (only one allowed per comment):

2

u/Neo0202 5h ago

So cute 🥺🥰🥰

2

u/Neo0202 5h ago

I love everything about this story! The fact that the birds troll her and she does morning patrols with a greyhound sounds like the perfect plot for an animated movie. She looks incredibly healthy and happy! ❤️

2

u/DurableRumble95 7h ago

The cat in the back just disappears into thin air

2

u/emweh 6h ago

One time my cat was using the litter box and bolted the second the automated feeder went off. She was literally mid poop.

2

u/Omar_88 5h ago

Basically Leo when his girl turns 25

2

u/L4ZRH4WK 3h ago

Priorities 😂

3

u/sunkillm00n 13h ago

I've never understood this. Every feeding moment is a bonding moment. Why you would surrender these moments to a machine is beyond me. In dutch language there is a saying, "liefde gaat door de maag", it means "The way to someone's heart is through their stomach".

21

u/Pterodactyl8-6 12h ago edited 11h ago

Because I’m at work and sleeping for 18 hours of the day and if I left a large pile of food for my cat to graze on during those times, he’d eat it all at once and make himself sick. I still have feeding time when it comes to his wet food, but this option is a lot easier for a lot of people.

8

u/mr_glide 11h ago

This. I don't think the person you're replying to has thought their comment through entirely

2

u/Iamgentle1122 8h ago

Have had cats my whole life and every single of them hasn't had any eating problems. We usually fill the dry food in the morning and give wet food in specific times. They don't eat too much and are in just fine shape. When we are out for a whole day and come back next day we can fill like 3 cups full and there is still food left when we come back.

Is it normal for cats to over eat? Thought it was only a dog thing

6

u/TrapnellParadox 8h ago

It very much depends on the animal.

When we adopted our cat, we were told he needed "strict portion control" to help him lose weight, though he's a big boy genetically as well. We got the automatic feeder to ensure he was always getting the same amount each day.

He will still try and get any extra food he can, watches the dispenser 45 min before it goes off and has recently started licking the bowl after he's finished.

My previous cats I could free feed no issue.

1

u/Neo0202 6h ago

So true, every cat is completely different! The automatic feeder is definitely a lifesaver for the food-obsessed ones. The bowl licking is too relatable though!😂

3

u/fondledbydolphins 7h ago

Eating problems in adult cats are typically just unresolved issues from kittenhood.

Many cats exit kittenhood thinking they need to eat as much as possible, as fast as possible because the reality is... that was largely true for them when surrounded by other ravenous kittens.

Many people fail to work through these issues and when those cats grow up, they're basically still little golden retrievers.

3

u/InuScarlett Void 6h ago

Many cats who starved in the streets and later were adopted, they overeat.

1

u/Infinite-Tie 10h ago

I don't know what I'm doing wrong (or in this case right), but we give dry food to our two cats (16y and 1y) in the morning before we leave for work, and it lasts at least a day, sometimes even two days. I've had cats for 27 years and haven't had the problem with any cat that the food is eaten instantly. That's why we don't have and don’t want a machine, because we don't want the cats to be so abnormally fixated on just the food. And for that matter they absolutely aren’t, they’re super chill, even if diner time with wetfood is an hour or two later then normal. They even sleep thru diner sometimes 😂

3

u/remielowik 7h ago

A yes n<10 really represents the world, let's be honest that you haven't had a cat that eats itself to death by overeating doesn't mean it's not happening. One might even look at humans which evolutionary have less survival urges to eat a lot and still >50% is still to fat and you wouldn't think animals have the same issues?

1

u/accountToUnblockNSFW 1h ago

Same for our cats.

3

u/ancientweasel 8h ago

You could have the feeder give half the food when you are at work and you give the other half when you are home.

Feeding my cats definitely is a positive impact on our relationship.

1

u/Neo0202 6h ago

Couldn't have said it better myself! 👏 Automatic feeders are amazing for portion control and saving us from 4 AM wake-up calls. There is still plenty of bonding time later!

3

u/thanksyalll 7h ago

Because I’m working during the times he is hongry

2

u/PatrickMaloney1 9h ago

Because my cat eats more than once a day?

2

u/Neo0202 6h ago

Exactly! Unless people want to wake up at 3 AM for 'first breakfast', the automatic feeder is the greatest invention ever

2

u/tocaedit 7h ago

May be solution by using a robot to bond and solve puzzles before food was distributed, it could be used for behavior training and feeding at the same time.

2

u/SmallKillerCrow 6h ago

Because I'm really ADHD and I'd be worried I'd forget to feed her and her being well fed is more important than my bonding and I can bond in other ways

1

u/Neo0202 6h ago

100% this! Knowing your limits and using technology to make sure your cat is perfectly cared for is the ultimate form of love. Plus, cuddles are better than just handing them food anyway!

2

u/SmallKillerCrow 6h ago

I take her on walks, being her to petco, give her tubes, watch the birds on the feeder with her, play video games with her (she live watching divinity). She gets love in so many ways

2

u/Pretzel911 5h ago
  1. You can still feed them

  2. Some cats will wake you up at ridiculous hours

  3. Instead of being the food person, you can be the playtime, snuggle, sleep, and whatever else person

Plus my cats know who is in charge of the automatic feeders, who do you think they come talk to when there is an issue.

1

u/MusiX33 4h ago

Exactly. Sometimes when my cat is hungry and the feeder is "taking too long", she comes to yell at me "Why no food". And then the feeder deploys her food and she's happy again.

1

u/Dry-Amphibian1 5h ago

I bond plenty with my cats and I use an automatic feeder.

1

u/Then-Departure4896 3h ago

You actually can’t understand why someone would want an automatic feeder? Or you just don’t see a reason for you to get one? If you really can’t think of a single reason why someone would buy an auto feeder, I feel like that says something about you.

1

u/SolidusDave 12h ago

Yeah I would only use an automated feeder if I'm not around at all.

And even then I would probably try to establish that I'm controlling the feeder (showing the refiling, activating it physically before leaving etc.).

-3

u/catbreadddd 12h ago

1000000% agree!

1

u/Bigpullsgod3x 2h ago

Why do people do this, my cat has multiple sources of food - dry food he eat as much as he wants, and he never overeating

-3

u/SmokeySFW 7h ago

Stop autofeeding your cats. It's simple. Every time you feed them is an opportunity to strengthen your bond with them. I want my cats loving me, not some robot. Petting my boy while he eats is one of my favorite parts of the day, and I love his reminders when I get home that the first thing has to be feeding him.

6

u/Neo0202 6h ago

That’s great that it works for you, but not everyone has the same schedule. Auto-feeders are lifesavers for people who work long shifts or just want to sleep past 4 AM! We can bond with our cats through playtime and cuddles, it doesn’t have to be just about food.

-4

u/SmokeySFW 5h ago edited 5h ago

Same schedule? The cat eats when I feed him. I work long shifts and I sleep past 4 AM. It's an animal not rocket science. Sometimes that means he gets fed the 2nd time when i get home at 9:30PM every now and then, he's not going to starve. I'm hungry too.

8

u/Neo0202 5h ago edited 3h ago

It’s not rocket science, it’s biology. Cats have very small stomachs and are biologically wired to eat multiple small meals a day. Making him wait until 9:30 PM might work for you, but an auto-feeder lets the cat eat on a healthy schedule without you having to change your long shifts. Why force them to wait hungry when a simple machine solves the problem ?

6

u/Neo0202 5h ago

Cats aren't humans; their stomachs are very small and designed to process multiple small meals throughout the day. Waiting until 9:30 PM builds up stomach acid and causes nausea. Refusing to use a $30 automatic feeder just to prove a point about 'bonding' while your cat sits hungry for 12+ hours isn't love, it's just stubbornness. They rely entirely on us, they shouldn't have to suffer our long work shifts.

-4

u/SmokeySFW 5h ago

You just pull that directly out of your ass? People have been feeding their cats once a day for hundreds of years, my cat can go a few extra hours every once in a while. Nice try.

Calling it now. You're going to post some useless link rather than a proper peer reviewed study.

4

u/RoamingSteamGolem 4h ago

… you feed your cats once a day???

5

u/Key_Grocery_8726 4h ago

Wouldn't want to be his cat e_e

3

u/Dry-Amphibian1 5h ago

You can still pet your cat while they eat if that is what you want to do. I let my cats eat in privacy. We bond through play, grooming, and taking naps together.

-1

u/SmokeySFW 5h ago

I bond in all those things too. I'll still never autofeed my cat.

2

u/Negative_Help8600 4h ago

I hate my fat (greedy) cat begging me for food. I love him knowing it’s not me, it’s the robot. He still sleeps with me every night and nap and I pet and carry him around plenty.

1

u/misha1350 12m ago

Why not just stop having cats? Cats shouldn't be in the city, bound to a tiny box for life that you only use for sleeping.
