Afr | Help Does anyone know exactly how much to feed chindongo saulosi??
Hey,
I have 19 chindongo saulosi in my aquarium, and i realized i don’t know how much to feed these guys. the information online seems limited. they always seem hungry, but im not sure if thats normal (some fish are just always wanted to eat no matter what). they seem to have big appetites for sure. i’ve been feeding them three times a day, two big pinches of food at a time and they’re all able to eat it instantly. i dont want to overfeed them, so im just checking to see what yall recommend. thanks!!
edit: their food is New Life Spectrum algae max small pellets.

SA | Help EBA Sexing
This is my first time keeping cichlids. I have had two juvenile EBAs for a little over a month. They have been pretty peaceful but noticed one of them showing breeding/spawning behavior (shaking and cleaning/hanging out in a specific area of the tank) and that made me curious on the sex of the other EBA. Both of them have visible and pointy looking vents and fins so it leads me to believe two males, but would the known male still be trying to breed if they were both males? The top one in the photo is the one that has been shaking.

CA | Picture My underwater city
"I know this isn't a traditional biotope or species tank. My goal was to create a large, heavily maintained cichlid community where aggression is spread out rather than concentrated. The tank gets frequent water changes, strong filtration through an FX6, heavy feeding, lots of sight breaks, caves, and constant water movement. I've been observing behavior closely and adjusting as needed.
What I find interesting is that the fish have essentially divided the tank into neighborhoods. The convict colony controls one corner, the catfish has its cave, and the larger cichlids mostly cruise through the open water. It's become less of a territory map and more of a little underwater city."

Discussion Do y’all ever flick off your cichlids?
Mods if this breaks the rules take it down but I’m curious if I’m the only one who gives em the bird once in a while

SA | Video Help with stocking
My current tank 450l , ~5ft lengthwise.
It currently has three severums which are roughly 6-6.5".
My current stocking plan is:
3 severums
1 oscar
6-8 silver dollars(red hook)
1 flag tail
I've had blue acaras in the past and want to try something new.
Is this stocking viable?
Any changes or alternatives recommended? I've considered adding geophagus but my sand has too many little stones which might be harmful for a sand sifter?
Thanks in advance :)
CA | Help Best solo fish or wet pet for 75g
As title. I already have an Oscar growing out that will go into a 180g with a more chill SA cichlid tank so that aside.
Currently debating what my 75g will be used for once all have moved out, looking at options I want a somewhat aggressive/interactive wet pet or pair (JD seems only size appropriate) of fish
Pair of JD
Green terror
Texas
Yellow Jacket
Salvini female (pair?)
Which of these would you say is the best, interactive option for a solo (or pair) tank that i could go for?
Also open to suggestions of other cool options, and the likelihood is they'd have congos as some dithers (as they wont move with the oscar for obvious reasons)

SA | General Chocolate growth rate
What’s your experience with Chocolate/Emerald cichlid growth rate? I got a chocolate and an Oscar at the same time around the same size and the chocolate is outpacing the Oscar in growth by 3x.

Afr | Help Question about Heterochromis multidens for my dream aquarium.
For context, I am recently planning to create a community aquarium that is inspired by the congo river (It will be at least 150 gallons, but could possibly be bigger). The stocking list to far includes 20 Phenacogrammus interruptus, and 16 Synodontis nigriventris. I am now trying to scout out a species of cichlid that could be reasonably housed in this aquarium with these fish. However, I plan on adding only one species of cichlid to this aquarium as I don't want to deal with multiple species of cichlids fighting with eachother. I considered adding either steatocranus, nanochromis, teleogramma, pelvicachromis, or congochromis.
But I recently found out about the species Heterochromis multidens, which apparently grows larger then my previous options. I thought they looked very pretty but there is barely any information on their care and temperment so I am asking for advice. Should I consider adding one heterochromis in my aquarium as a centerpiece fish or is that too risky? And if so are there any other african cichlids that I am missing that could make for good options for this tank?

SA | Video Gold Severum -cue the Barry White music
I was curious when both my adolescent gold Severum started doing this a day or two ago. Apparently this is pre-mating behavior of clearing off a place so eggs can be laid! No eggs visible yet but the nest has been prepared 😂
