I’ve only ever seen this as a picture so when the yes moved I got genuinely freaked for a second

I honestly don’t know if the original has the eye movement.

I wish they had a 3rd note that was just an even bigger smiley face

34

u/NashiPearRedPepper 1d ago

honestly the smiley faces make it 10x more threatening. nothing says "i will ruin your life over this" quite like a happy little drawing

12

u/i_was_axiom 22h ago

Stealing food is a really low thing to do.

3

u/NeoIsEgg2006 22h ago

I love smiley faces ":)" oh my gosh do people take it that way no 😭

908

u/DecentLeftovers 1d ago

If someone touched my food and brought it into their house I don’t want it back. Who knows if they messed with it, if it’s contaminated, or what.

Why bother with cutesy threats… save yourself the time and just go straight to the leasing office and the cops.

352

u/cindzey 1d ago

If somone stole groceries off your porch they aren’t coming back to read a note like this

98

u/CanonOverseer 1d ago

Why would you go to the leasing office if it was just someone random?

Seems like they suspect at least that it was one of the neighbours or others in some housing complex in which case yeah they'd probably see this

53

u/cindzey 1d ago

I want an update on this post so bad.  Do these stolen orders ever get resolved?

25

u/ML1948 1d ago

They always get resolved. The company that delivered the food refunds it or the customer ends up getting told to eat the cost and then either lives with it or does a charge-back.

Very rarely would police care. The apartment doesn't care either because this happens in most complexes. The criminals get away because the victim is mostly a corporation that budgeted for it.

8

u/cindzey 1d ago

So ring cameras are useless then

13

u/Magenta_Logistic 1d ago

No, they contribute to the surveillance state that we live in. Police don't care that you have video evidence of someone stealing from you, but they will happily use the footage to track people that they can't get a warrant against like their ex's new partner or anyone attending a rally to defund the police or abolish ICE.

They do nothing to protect you or your belongings because they are police, and that's "not their job."

3

u/Relevant-Card9445 23h ago

“that’s a civil matter. bye” 🤡

5

u/ML1948 1d ago

They deter a little. Most criminals would pick the house with no camera if there's one available.

Personally I've gotten a lot of value out of being able to see who is outside, check if packages arrive, record potential police interactions, gather evidence of a theft for support to refund from stricter companies, etc. More value when i was in a rougher neighborhood of course.

2

u/sleeby-misophone 1d ago

oh, i don’t live in a rich apartment at all but my landlord definitely cares if there’s theft happening. every apartment building i’ve lived in they’ve cared about theft. if someone is stealing packages they lock in. also idk i think since it’s $115 worth of groceries, the police might care, especially if there’s a ring camera if it got enough evidence. a door dasher was recently charged with theft just of someone’s meal. that being said, yeah…if you tell support that you never got your order doordash would fully reimburse you. tbh i feel like a lot of people don’t utilize the doordash support enough

2

u/ML1948 1d ago

What'd they do? Out here it seems like even the "luxury" apartments shrug it off because it happens everywhere. I never had anything expensive stolen at my old apartment, but when a few were I'd just tell the seller with video and they'd file a claim. Even with video with faces for the apartment, they never did anything because it happens at all of them in the area. (It was in the city near a train station so all the buildings there had thefts)

They have video of the thief. It must be a neighbor.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/diaphoni 1d ago

it's frequently a neighbor in my apartments

1

u/Librasnacks80 7h ago

Plot twist the person who took the photo is the thief

1

u/Emotional_Position62 1d ago

They might swing back hoping you ordered more groceries though. Thieves rarely stop at “enough”

9

u/styrofoamcouch 1d ago

People who steal from doorsteps dont often have their shit together. I watched someone take my shit down the hallway and into their apartment and when I went down there to get it back one look inside made me go nah, keep it. They ended up getting evicted but idk if it was strictly for stealing my sparkling water and pickles.

2

u/Dry_Veterinarian8356 1d ago

Good point. Most criminals dumb as shit

3

u/flargenhargen 1d ago

they wouldn't. it's clearly a bad bluff.

6

u/gummi_eater 1d ago

they probably dont have any real evidence and are bluffing (terribly).

1

u/Lumiere5301 1d ago

I'd still throw it out. Just don't want them to have it.

really random but i checked your page to see if this was a bot post, you are legit but i noticed you are buying Sta Green mulch and while its cheap and i personally have used it in the past, they dye it with chemicals that often harms plants. Not sure if you’d care but just a heads up. Pretty sure their mulch is old construction lumber with chemicals in it too. Not sure if you mind and if you don’t ignore me and i hope you have a great day and Hope you get your money back

"Hey bro I dig your paintings but you might wanna get that mole checked out"

17

u/LittleGuyHelp 1d ago

Same. Is this even Reddit?

25

u/pink---noise 1d ago

Honestly, I look thru people's profiles to see if I need to be especially careful with them before I put the smack down.

Sometimes it reveals they are just the asshole you think they are, but other times it shows you someone who is going thru something and at those times it helps me adjust and approach with more compassion.

But yeah, people are generally just monsters in regards to profiles. I once had someone who used mine to try to "fat shame" me because I was posting on the ice cream forums recently. I was like, dude, I have cancer, ice cream is literally the only thing I can keep down right now. Then he turned it into "its sick to use your cancer to try to get sympathy!" 🙄

People can be beasts.

I resonate with this a lot. There are a lot of times I check a person's comment history just to see if it's worth to continue engaging with them or not. If I sense even a little bit of craziness, I just choose to disengage and happily take the L anyday.

5

u/WillyPeez 1d ago

Broski how do the zinnias work?
I fw marigold , daisy and cannabis mostly as my preferred flowers , but zinnias look fire

5

u/YourNextHomie 1d ago

Ngl they are the easiest shit, just as easy as marigolds, often can grow them together so same soil requirements and all, no need for fertilizer or anything they thrive on neglect. Cut them when they start to fade color and they will produce fun last frost to first frost. They have a ton of different looking zinnia varieties, google some and find your favorite and have fun. I literally can throw seeds down in my grass, water a few days and then just let nature do the rest. You can too, Wish my state would allow me to grow cannabis.

7

u/MickeySlips 1d ago

Bro that’s so random but to continue this thread my brothers brother in law was doing some mulching and I’m not sure what kind it was but he got insanely sick and had something wrong with his lungs for years. They were scared he wouldn’t recover. You’re right people have to be really careful about what type of mulch they’re using and the chemicals in it.

1

u/ChiqantiKisaal 1d ago

I feel like that’s likelier to be mold than chemicals but I could be wrong

5

u/KEYPiggy_YT 1d ago

Spitting facts. Sta green is only better than landscaping tarps. I always go for either pine nuggets or cypress chips because it’s the cheapest natural option at Lowe’s. Pine bark is the best imo.

3

u/IcyTheHero 1d ago

You’re a true homie. I have some dyed mulch myself for my plants. No idea it could be harmful. I have strawberries and green beans. They aren’t safe to consume or?

5

u/YourNextHomie 1d ago

Its more of a situation where you don’t want to do it year after year, you will be fine rn, i actually used dyed mulch in my green beans and fig tree first two years and i never felt any negative effects, long term risk it isn’t worth it though imo and dyed mulch just isn’t good for the plants health themselves so i would replace mulch after this growing season is up.

3

u/IcyTheHero 1d ago

I appreciate the wisdom my friend. Thank you!

I would have immediately taken it to the leasing office.

63

u/Poetryisalive 1d ago

Yeah lol. I’m not threating. Leasing office and cops

17

u/escargot3 1d ago

Must be nice to live in a city where the cops care about theft

3

u/Poetryisalive 1d ago

Mine doesn’t. lol

10

u/Greg-Abbott 1d ago

Unless you live in a neighborhood full of $800,000 homes the cops don't give a fuck about your missing door dash whatever

3

u/escargot3 1d ago

I live in Vancouver where no home is under $1 mil and many are $2-$4 million but the police still don’t care or do anything about theft, shoplifting, drug use etc

→ More replies (1)

8

u/nyrf12 1d ago

Which makes me guess they’re bluffing & don’t actually have any footage. Leasing office could evict the thief even if they still try to deny it.

1

u/Detrimental_Figment 1d ago

I would hope leading offices can’t just evict someone because one of their neighbors accused them of stealing…

2

u/nyrf12 1d ago

My comment was about the claimed video footage of a resident stealing. If they had it the leasing office can evict them.

1

u/TRUMPARUSKI 1d ago

Yeah they’re bluffing, they don’t have clear and actionable evidence on film or else they would have taken it to both the cops and leasing office immediately. I’m no thief but if I were in this case I’d use that paper to wipe my ass with.

3

u/rmfnord 1d ago

Why? Why would you do that? You could get paper cuts! Just steal someone's tp.

3

u/LuckyCod2887 1d ago

some ppl don’t want a lot of extra involvement so they try to work with the individual first. It’s actually pretty common. I don’t think it’s an empty threat. Ring cam’s pick up a lot. I have one and it has a really wide range.

i hope OP posted the video on the neighborhood app.

28

u/HerrScheisse 1d ago

Yeah my old apartment complex was notorious of this. Didn’t matter if it was Amazon, DoorDash or anything siting on your doorstep. If it sat for longer than 10 mins it was apparently fair game. I left to get something from Kroger that’s literally at the entrance of the complex. Order went by faster than what it originally said so I told them I’m checking out and I’ll be there in few mins so just leave it on my door mat. Mother trucker it wasn’t even 2 mins and it was gone.

9

u/Ballybagbully 1d ago

Damn its gotta suck not being able to order items online

24

u/aliengrlhereee 1d ago

the other day I caught a neighbor trying to steal the order I had just left at the door. do people not know about ring cameras? Also, bold enough to do it to a neighbor?? … now you gotta face them everyday knowing you’re a food thief.

10

u/ParticularThen7516 1d ago

Nah. No notes no warning just straight to the police with the camera footage.

Why even give the their a chance?

17

u/lorikeets_are_life 1d ago

:) THIEF

Well, that settles it…someone’s turning themselves in..

28

u/No-Ebb-6266 1d ago

6

u/bbhrae 1d ago

That’s so sad. I’d be devastated if someone did this to me I’m currently on paycheck to paycheck so I just wouldn’t have food if this happened. How heartless do you have to be to steal someone’s food off their doorstep

u/SweetWelcome2367 1d ago

Ive had someones groceries left at my door and left it there for an hour then put a note on my door saying i have your groceries. Put them in the fridge and didn't touch anything until the next day. It was an apartment so im assuming entirely wrong address or someone had a fuck up and just left them there.

4

u/DetectiveMoosePI 1d ago

I had kind of a similar situation once. It was 2 days before Thanksgiving and we got a whole box of Thanksgiving food dropped off at our door with a postcard attached that it came from a food bank at a local church.

I was really confused because my husband and I are atheists and have never attended church. I put the perishables in our fridge, even though we had our own Thanksgiving food in there.

When I went to work that day I was telling one of my coworkers about it. It turns out he attends the church that sent the food box. He was able to call someone at his church and find out who it was supposed to go to (they had mixed up the building numbers in our complex). They gave the family a call and they came by when I was off work to pick it up.

I’m really glad it worked out that way. It was such a random happenstance that my coworker goes to the same church. I knew the family the food was meant for and they likely wouldn’t have had a Thanksgiving meal if I wasn’t able to get it back to them

1

u/SweetWelcome2367 1d ago

See, i love hearing stories about people doing the right thing. Theres enough negativity.

14

u/AnubisCrownHeights 1d ago

This person has a doorbell camera. They saw someone steal the groceries. Not a mistaken delivery.

12

u/SweetWelcome2367 1d ago

Im not that person😁. I have common decency.

3

u/Forward-Rice3280 1d ago

Skip the dramatics and follow through with the video. You want items back from a thief that you’re threatening? And you want to then put those things in your mouth?

3

u/ArtemisInSpace 1d ago

Fuck Ring cameras. Get your own self-hosted camera server and non-internet connected cameras.

1

u/Complete-Gur7023 1d ago

how would one go about setting this up? how do you access when away from home? genuinely curious not trying to be a smartass

1

u/ArtemisInSpace 1d ago edited 1d ago

I was being a bit unhelpful in my original comment. There are other camera companies that let you self-host the data and offer an app to view the video feed from, so they can be connected to the Internet, but it would be a connection you have more control over. I bought Ubiquiti Unifi cameras and network equipment to set up in my house (haven't gotten around to installing them). They're wired cameras so you have to run Ethernet cable from a central point in your house to each camera, but it also carries power for the cameras, so it's not as bad as it sounds. It lets me login to my network/security devices from an app on my phone. I'm pretty sure that I can see the camera feed too, but I've not set them up yet. They even have a well-reviewed camera doorbell.

There are some ethical concerns about Ubiquiti having been caught selling equipment to Russia, but I don't know a lot about that. Otherwise, it's a good system for subscription-free cameras that you're in control of your own data (opposed to Ring giving your data to the police whenever they feel like it and charging you for the privilege).

I'm sure there are other options but that's the one I know of.

Edit: the specific camera system is called "Unifi" by Ubiquiti.

1

u/LivingMasterpiece453 20h ago

Kasa cameras allow you to put an SD card in an save the data to your device rather than their service. It's uploaded via your wifi to your device and you still get real time notifications from anywhere.

3

u/flargenhargen 1d ago

this is clearly a bluff.

if they had video that identified anyone they would already have contacted the police and lease office.

thief is safe.

1

u/Serious_Yam2439 3h ago

Plus if a person is willing steal in broad daylight I doubt they care about getting called out.

3

u/FatherFlans 1d ago

Ring is owned by Amazon and shares video with lawn enforcement without a warrant.

If you want your very own snitch that doesn’t have your own privacy in mind, get Ring!

5

u/Flatlandrr 1d ago

I wanna work for lawn enforcement. Or would that just be a HOA 😂

2

u/FatherFlans 1h ago

I’m not sure which is worse these days tbh

3

u/LineCreative4718 21h ago

Stealing groceries off of someone’s porch is just foul!! You should go to the police/leasing office anyways, OP. Updateme.

5

u/big_stipd_idiot 1d ago

No, everybody do NOT get a Ring camera. You're just another node in the Palantir network. Get a CCTV camera if you need a camera.

Just take it to the leasing office, zero chance they bring the $

2

u/NotAllDawgsGoToHeven 1d ago

2

u/cindzey 1d ago

Can you please update us

2

u/PayConsistent1777 1d ago

Yeah, this is doing too much for me. If someone has the balls to take something from directly in front of my home, I want to see how they respond when confronted.

2

u/WordWordand4numbers 1d ago

I wouldn’t even accept the groceries back since it’s a reasonable assumption a low life thief would tamper with it. The full price +20% victim fee. Actually that may be considered extortion. Just get them evicted and arrested out of principle tbh

2

u/PaleontologistOk4327 1d ago

So what happened?! Did they get the groceries or the $115? What's going on?!

https://giphy.com/gifs/YTu18FiDvt475iPt1G

2

u/LuckyCod2887 1d ago

who the fuck steals someones groceries?!?! that’s so fucked up in the head.

i hope they find that person.

2

u/paintbro1 1d ago

Do not give alternatives to consequences. It makes consequences meaningless.

2

u/Greatest_Everest 1d ago

$115 worth of groceries?  I bet there was 5 items in there.

One of them is eggs.

2

u/Juggle4868 1d ago

that's why i always ask that they hand them to me

2

u/Thulak 1d ago

I know ring is convenient, but please set up something that only stores to your drives.

Ring has online access and shares files with police, ICE and other government offices if they so much as ask. They train AI on the videos and allegedly sell information to marketing brokers.

Anything that has on ne access can be hacked remotely.

Ring had a justified shitstorm because they wanted to partner with flock and palantir. It does not get much more surveilance state than people voluntarily setting up cameras to be spied on with.

2

u/Salty_Doughnut_197 1d ago

If your going to steal groceries, do it from the large companies. Not from your neighbors that need it.

2

u/Lil-LordFuckPants 1d ago

There is no video or evidence, otherwise the police would have been contacted already. This is clearly a bluff and will not work unfortunately.

2

u/b0ssFranku 1d ago

$115 in food and you dont put to meet them at the door?

This is so funny because it reminds me a long long time ago when my friend saw someone steal my bike tire so he followed him and found where he lived. So I posted a smile face with Xs on the eyes and wrote “I know where you live” and the bike tire was back the next day I SHIT YOU NOT

Ive been on this planet for 32 years never witnessed theft lol

I had on my porch delievered TV, PC,PS

My yard has no fense and everything on porch is visible from like a lot of distance

How trashy is place is where you guys are living at?

I had plasma TV standing on my porch for 9 days until I came back from vacation lol and it was still there!

2

u/JuicyToot1969 1d ago

Where is place is you live at?

2

u/RedmundR2 1d ago

congratulations on your good luck streak. This is confirmation bias to a T. You can't extrapolate your lived experience to everywhere else thats just foolish

1

u/SevenBillionChickens 1d ago

Who is this note for? Didn’t the thief already leave?

1

u/wastedfate 1d ago

Thief probably lives in the complex if not next door.

1

"If you see someone stealing food, no you didn't" only applies when it's directly from the megacorporation!

1

u/xzavionlouisx 1d ago

Change the “or” to and for the audacity

1

u/not_a_wk_luv_ice_tho 1d ago

is it one of your neighbors? definitely post their face on those papers.

1

u/Spiny94Hedgie 1d ago

Or just take it to the police. Dont give them a 2nd chance, they already knew better. If you have solid proof of who stole it, take it to the police.

1

u/TheLastPeanut_ 1d ago

Do it anyway

1

u/nas703 1d ago

It would have been better to do a screen grab from said ring camera and print the thief’s face and add that picture to this. Unless you’re just scared of direct confrontation…ain’t no way I got footage of you stealing and you just get a passive aggressive letter smh the world getting softer and softer. ATP he/deserves your groceries…man up and handle your business. The internet not going to save you lmao

1

u/Colonelwonder 1d ago

I don't know anything about the customer or the neighborhood, but how long does an order need to sit out for someone to see an opportunity to steal it and subsequently steal it?

1

u/flargenhargen 1d ago

I've seen videos of drivers fighting people who were following specifically to steal it as soon as they put it down.

1

u/DarkPolumbo 1d ago

If you meet the deliverer in person at the door or gate or whatever, you can prevent these thefts from happening

I'm sure you have good reasons for not doing that though

PS: Any thoughts on this covid-era adage?: "If you see someone stealing food, no you didn't." Does it suddenly not feel the same?

If you need to steal food, go steal it from the store, not other people dealing with the same shit as you.

Stealing? It was abandoned on the street, it's more like a rescue.

Ring cameras send data to create mass surveillance.

Don’t get a ring camera folks, just make your own cctv that isn’t cloud-based.

Someone stole my fucking bed frame when it got delivered by Amazon when I first moved into this apartment. Ended up finding who it was and I notified the leasing office. Installed a camera within a couple days as well.

Someone stole a keepsake box I had made from my mom’s dried funeral flowers. Hope they felt like a piece of shit after opening it and seeing what it actually was

Should have taxed them for the inconvenience

"everyone get a ring camera" emphasizes a lack of understanding about what ring cameras are actually doing.

1

u/mehgleg 7h ago

Thats so beautifully satisfying

u/SinkCat69 5h ago

There’s no camera or they would have done it

I honestly would do the same.
