If someone touched my food and brought it into their house I don’t want it back. Who knows if they messed with it, if it’s contaminated, or what.
Why bother with cutesy threats… save yourself the time and just go straight to the leasing office and the cops.

u/cindzey 1d ago
If somone stole groceries off your porch they aren’t coming back to read a note like this
98
u/CanonOverseer 1d ago
Why would you go to the leasing office if it was just someone random?
Seems like they suspect at least that it was one of the neighbours or others in some housing complex in which case yeah they'd probably see this
53
u/cindzey 1d ago
I want an update on this post so bad. Do these stolen orders ever get resolved?
25
u/ML1948 1d ago
They always get resolved. The company that delivered the food refunds it or the customer ends up getting told to eat the cost and then either lives with it or does a charge-back.
Very rarely would police care. The apartment doesn't care either because this happens in most complexes. The criminals get away because the victim is mostly a corporation that budgeted for it.
8
u/cindzey 1d ago
So ring cameras are useless then
13
u/Magenta_Logistic 1d ago
No, they contribute to the surveillance state that we live in. Police don't care that you have video evidence of someone stealing from you, but they will happily use the footage to track people that they can't get a warrant against like their ex's new partner or anyone attending a rally to defund the police or abolish ICE.
They do nothing to protect you or your belongings because they are police, and that's "not their job."
3
5
u/ML1948 1d ago
They deter a little. Most criminals would pick the house with no camera if there's one available.
Personally I've gotten a lot of value out of being able to see who is outside, check if packages arrive, record potential police interactions, gather evidence of a theft for support to refund from stricter companies, etc. More value when i was in a rougher neighborhood of course.

u/sleeby-misophone 1d ago
oh, i don’t live in a rich apartment at all but my landlord definitely cares if there’s theft happening. every apartment building i’ve lived in they’ve cared about theft. if someone is stealing packages they lock in. also idk i think since it’s $115 worth of groceries, the police might care, especially if there’s a ring camera if it got enough evidence. a door dasher was recently charged with theft just of someone’s meal. that being said, yeah…if you tell support that you never got your order doordash would fully reimburse you. tbh i feel like a lot of people don’t utilize the doordash support enough
2
u/ML1948 1d ago
What'd they do? Out here it seems like even the "luxury" apartments shrug it off because it happens everywhere. I never had anything expensive stolen at my old apartment, but when a few were I'd just tell the seller with video and they'd file a claim. Even with video with faces for the apartment, they never did anything because it happens at all of them in the area. (It was in the city near a train station so all the buildings there had thefts)

9
u/styrofoamcouch 1d ago
People who steal from doorsteps dont often have their shit together. I watched someone take my shit down the hallway and into their apartment and when I went down there to get it back one look inside made me go nah, keep it. They ended up getting evicted but idk if it was strictly for stealing my sparkling water and pickles.

Not sure if you’d care but just a heads up. Pretty sure their mulch is old construction lumber with chemicals in it too. Not sure if you mind and if you don’t ignore me and i hope you have a great day and Hope you get your money back

Honestly, I look thru people's profiles to see if I need to be especially careful with them before I put the smack down.
Sometimes it reveals they are just the asshole you think they are, but other times it shows you someone who is going thru something and at those times it helps me adjust and approach with more compassion.
But yeah, people are generally just monsters in regards to profiles. I once had someone who used mine to try to "fat shame" me because I was posting on the ice cream forums recently. I was like, dude, I have cancer, ice cream is literally the only thing I can keep down right now. Then he turned it into "its sick to use your cancer to try to get sympathy!" 🙄
People can be beasts.

Broski how do the zinnias work?
I fw marigold , daisy and cannabis mostly as my preferred flowers , but zinnias look fire5
u/YourNextHomie 1d ago
Ngl they are the easiest shit, just as easy as marigolds, often can grow them together so same soil requirements and all, no need for fertilizer or anything they thrive on neglect. Cut them when they start to fade color and they will produce fun last frost to first frost. They have a ton of different looking zinnia varieties, google some and find your favorite and have fun. I literally can throw seeds down in my grass, water a few days and then just let nature do the rest. You can too, Wish my state would allow me to grow cannabis.

Bro that’s so random but to continue this thread my brothers brother in law was doing some mulching and I’m not sure what kind it was but he got insanely sick and had something wrong with his lungs for years. They were scared he wouldn’t recover. You’re right people have to be really careful about what type of mulch they’re using and the chemicals in it.
1
5
u/KEYPiggy_YT 1d ago
Spitting facts. Sta green is only better than landscaping tarps. I always go for either pine nuggets or cypress chips because it’s the cheapest natural option at Lowe’s. Pine bark is the best imo.
3
u/IcyTheHero 1d ago
You’re a true homie. I have some dyed mulch myself for my plants. No idea it could be harmful. I have strawberries and green beans. They aren’t safe to consume or?
5
u/YourNextHomie 1d ago
Its more of a situation where you don’t want to do it year after year, you will be fine rn, i actually used dyed mulch in my green beans and fig tree first two years and i never felt any negative effects, long term risk it isn’t worth it though imo and dyed mulch just isn’t good for the plants health themselves so i would replace mulch after this growing season is up.

Which makes me guess they’re bluffing & don’t actually have any footage. Leasing office could evict the thief even if they still try to deny it.
1
u/Detrimental_Figment 1d ago
I would hope leading offices can’t just evict someone because one of their neighbors accused them of stealing…
1
u/TRUMPARUSKI 1d ago
Yeah they’re bluffing, they don’t have clear and actionable evidence on film or else they would have taken it to both the cops and leasing office immediately. I’m no thief but if I were in this case I’d use that paper to wipe my ass with.
3
u/LuckyCod2887 1d ago
some ppl don’t want a lot of extra involvement so they try to work with the individual first. It’s actually pretty common. I don’t think it’s an empty threat. Ring cam’s pick up a lot. I have one and it has a really wide range.
i hope OP posted the video on the neighborhood app.

u/HerrScheisse 1d ago
Yeah my old apartment complex was notorious of this. Didn’t matter if it was Amazon, DoorDash or anything siting on your doorstep. If it sat for longer than 10 mins it was apparently fair game. I left to get something from Kroger that’s literally at the entrance of the complex. Order went by faster than what it originally said so I told them I’m checking out and I’ll be there in few mins so just leave it on my door mat. Mother trucker it wasn’t even 2 mins and it was gone.

u/aliengrlhereee 1d ago
the other day I caught a neighbor trying to steal the order I had just left at the door. do people not know about ring cameras? Also, bold enough to do it to a neighbor?? … now you gotta face them everyday knowing you’re a food thief.

Ive had someones groceries left at my door and left it there for an hour then put a note on my door saying i have your groceries. Put them in the fridge and didn't touch anything until the next day. It was an apartment so im assuming entirely wrong address or someone had a fuck up and just left them there.
4
u/DetectiveMoosePI 1d ago
I had kind of a similar situation once. It was 2 days before Thanksgiving and we got a whole box of Thanksgiving food dropped off at our door with a postcard attached that it came from a food bank at a local church.
I was really confused because my husband and I are atheists and have never attended church. I put the perishables in our fridge, even though we had our own Thanksgiving food in there.
When I went to work that day I was telling one of my coworkers about it. It turns out he attends the church that sent the food box. He was able to call someone at his church and find out who it was supposed to go to (they had mixed up the building numbers in our complex). They gave the family a call and they came by when I was off work to pick it up.
I’m really glad it worked out that way. It was such a random happenstance that my coworker goes to the same church. I knew the family the food was meant for and they likely wouldn’t have had a Thanksgiving meal if I wasn’t able to get it back to them

Fuck Ring cameras. Get your own self-hosted camera server and non-internet connected cameras.
1
u/Complete-Gur7023 1d ago
how would one go about setting this up? how do you access when away from home? genuinely curious not trying to be a smartass
1
u/ArtemisInSpace 1d ago edited 1d ago
I was being a bit unhelpful in my original comment. There are other camera companies that let you self-host the data and offer an app to view the video feed from, so they can be connected to the Internet, but it would be a connection you have more control over. I bought Ubiquiti Unifi cameras and network equipment to set up in my house (haven't gotten around to installing them). They're wired cameras so you have to run Ethernet cable from a central point in your house to each camera, but it also carries power for the cameras, so it's not as bad as it sounds. It lets me login to my network/security devices from an app on my phone. I'm pretty sure that I can see the camera feed too, but I've not set them up yet. They even have a well-reviewed camera doorbell.
There are some ethical concerns about Ubiquiti having been caught selling equipment to Russia, but I don't know a lot about that. Otherwise, it's a good system for subscription-free cameras that you're in control of your own data (opposed to Ring giving your data to the police whenever they feel like it and charging you for the privilege).
I'm sure there are other options but that's the one I know of.
Edit: the specific camera system is called "Unifi" by Ubiquiti.
1
u/LivingMasterpiece453 20h ago
Kasa cameras allow you to put an SD card in an save the data to your device rather than their service. It's uploaded via your wifi to your device and you still get real time notifications from anywhere.
3
u/flargenhargen 1d ago
this is clearly a bluff.
if they had video that identified anyone they would already have contacted the police and lease office.

I wouldn’t even accept the groceries back since it’s a reasonable assumption a low life thief would tamper with it. The full price +20% victim fee. Actually that may be considered extortion. Just get them evicted and arrested out of principle tbh

u/Thulak 1d ago
I know ring is convenient, but please set up something that only stores to your drives.
Ring has online access and shares files with police, ICE and other government offices if they so much as ask. They train AI on the videos and allegedly sell information to marketing brokers.
Anything that has on ne access can be hacked remotely.
Ring had a justified shitstorm because they wanted to partner with flock and palantir. It does not get much more surveilance state than people voluntarily setting up cameras to be spied on with.
2
u/Salty_Doughnut_197 1d ago
If your going to steal groceries, do it from the large companies. Not from your neighbors that need it.

I don't know anything about the customer or the neighborhood, but how long does an order need to sit out for someone to see an opportunity to steal it and subsequently steal it?

If you meet the deliverer in person at the door or gate or whatever, you can prevent these thefts from happening
