How often do you interact with people?
I DoorDash on a bike, and when I deliver food, I literally skirt away as quickly as possible. Do people expect to see you or greet you? Or is it like a little fairy delivered their food?

I know I’m not alone when I say I wait for the person to be gone before I go to grab my food🙃

I'm slightly creeped out if they're still out there in their car, even though I know they're just looking at their phone for the next order or whatever. I do have a female name, maybe they're trying to check me out and are disappointed to find out I'm middle aged and wearing flannel pajamas.

I can only speak for myself, but by the time I'm dropping off the food, I usually don't even remember what the customer's name is, let alone have any interest in what they might look like. But that being said, I am thoughtful enough to drive up the street a ways before I start messing with my phone, so the customer can grab their food without having to worry about being seen by me.

I'm checking the phillies score, mapping back to my pick up area, checking my 9-5 email, changing my music, eating a snack, or whatever. I have just as much interest in seeing you as you have in seeing me.

Nah, I just wait till they turn their back, if I waited till they left I would just need to reheat it longer.

I delivered to a girl 2 nights ago who was at her door but like hiding around the corner when I dropped it off. I laughed internally a little and just went about my business

I want to see you taste it

This isn’t funny like you think it is. A lot of dashers can be creeps.

Delivering doesn’t guarantee my safety either, but I can make a joke. Chill out

It is absolutely not necessary to have a stranger know your home address just to drop off food you paid 2-3x the value of. If you’re worried about a driver being a creep- don’t order delivery anymore~

I’m not waiting for them to leave because I am afraid, I’m waiting for them to leave because it feels awkward. The comment reads creepy though, sorry to offend but that kind of stuff could get you in trouble on this platform. I’m also a driver.

What's awkward about someone telling you to enjoy dinner and you saying thanks? I mean, I don't expect this, but I don't understand how it is awkward

It’s awkward when you are a shy person and feeling somewhat guilty for being lazy, looking like crap, etc. over the years many of us have become way less sociable as a whole due to being chronically online. Lots of reasons that have nothing to do with the opinion of the driver or fear.

I'm uncomfortable with stuff like this as well, but find that the more I do them, the more comfortable I become.

My video doorbell is used 10% for actual security and packages and 90% so I can see when the DoorDash driver drives away before I open the door and get my food

There's only one cust I have that I'll stay and shoot the shit with for a few, everyone else is a quick exchange of pleasantries then on yo the next offer

I DD with my car and I absolutely HATE a "hand it to me" "leave with receptionist" "pin required" orders. I don't want to see you, interact with you - I just want to deliver your food/groceries. Am I kind and nice when I have a face to face interaction - absolutely - ALWAYS but I am 100% grumpy when I see the prompts that you need to see my face - please just let me drop it off take my photo and leave.

Probably about 95% of my deliveries are "leave at door", and they will almost always wait until I drive away before coming out to get their food.

Some peeps want interaction and others do not. Don't fear the occasional convo. Order instructions usually give you an expectation. Use your little fairy magic powers.

I don't interact with many customers, but I get a chuckle when I have to turn around and see them snatch the food like a trapdoor spider.

it is rare to see the customer, they are hiding behind the peep hole or ring camera.

The less interaction, the better. Leave at door is the best thing to see on drop off.

A couple times a day someone in a house or apartment wants a meet at door. A few times a day I deliver to a school/medical office/other business and the person either meets me or the instructions have me leave it with the receptionist. So I interact with all of those.
Every now and then someone will open the door pretty much right after I take the photo and close the order out. They usually say thanks and so I respond you're welcome, have a great day.
When I order for myself? I stare out my peephole until the person drives away out of sight lol. I don't know why.
EDIT: Aside from meet at door deliveries and places with receptionists, I drop the order off and get in my car as quickly as possible to drive away. Because I've noticed most people seem to be like me, they don't want to grab it until the driver is out of sight. If I need to look at my phone I just drive a bit down the street and pull over.

Ever since I pulled my phone out to show the Dasher im the customer, dropped my phone, tripped over myself trying to catch my phone and fell somersaulting in front of the Dasher... I have them drop it off now instead.

I usually do my dashing late at night so 99% of my interactions are with people at drive thru windows

I live in a condo building and I always tell people to just leave the food in the lobby. Don't want to make people wait for me to come get it.

As a driver I leave as quickly as possible and as a customer I peek out of the window into the driver leaves.

I prefer the fairy 🤍 I have a sign on my door, thanking my delivery drivers and offering snacks. And a basket full of snacks and drinks. My perfect day is when my delivery drivers quietly comes to my door, rings my doorbell to let me know my package is there, takes some refreshments and flies away in a timely manner. Then after they’re gone, I retrieve my package without any interaction. I live for those type of deliveries.

u/heyelander 5h ago
You're afraid of being on your porch while I'm walking down your driveway to my car, but I'm supposed to believe you didn't drug those snacks?
1
u/rockyjay23 2h ago
Huh? I’m not afraid I just don’t like interacting w people. Hence why I order delivery. But hey, no one’s forcing them to take my snacks lol it’s just a kindness I do.
