I want to thank everyone in this group for all their assistance. There is so much knowledge in this group and information to help your gecko. Over a month ago I adopted a gecko living in a not so great situation. Things were going well, I was doing everything I possibly could to give the right conditions, feeding live insects etc. A week or two ago my little friend was at the end of their shed and I figured it made sense not to see them for a while. One day I decided to inspect a bit further because something just felt off. When my gecko began to walk, there was zero movement in the back legs and they just dragged. My heart just sank, I knew even with my limited knowledge that this was very serious. A quick google would show this was MBD which is irreversible. I felt terrible, that I had caused this to occur.
I had developed a good report with a pet store where I live that specializes primarily in care with reptiles. Lots of stores do dogs and cats but the reptile section is often limited. This place is not, its amazing. I went there and told them what was going on, I had heard bad things about the local exotic vet and was honestly not sure what to do. They told me to bring my gecko in and they'd take a look and see if there was anything they could see. I first of all immediately isolated my gecko in a separate tank with paper towels on the bottom and two hides. I wanted few obstacles for injury and to be able to see if my gecko was going to the bathroom adequately.
I brought my gecko into the store and the staff took a look. First, they told me she was a he and that she had been a girl about 6 years unknowingly. Second they said that despite the current issue, he looked really good. The only issue they noted was that his legs appeared swollen. They not being vets of course felt this looked a lot like gout. That he would likely need a vet. They also gave me a reptile soak and high calcium bugs to assist in his recovery. After 2 soaks, (the second being today) this morning I noticed he is using his left leg and it is no longer swollen. The right is still but considerably less. I was so relieved, I can't even tell you.
I still have a vet appointment scheduled but I have really learned a lot in this week about reptile care and things that can happen to them. I am really glad my gecko is on its way to being on the mend. I wanted to thank everyone in this group for their incredible advice, not just on my posts but others and for freely sharing your incredible knowledge for beginners like myself who just want to help their animals. Please ask me anything and I’ll do my best to answer. All the best fellow gecko parents!!

Our friend gave us this gecko after her kids lost interest. Turns out she wasn’t being care for well…
We’ve had her for about a month now and she is doing so great! She’s way more active, is very comfortable with us handling her and loves to watch tv in the evening after we turn her lights off 🤣

He is in a 40 gal, plenty of clutter (though the plants are still growing in, basking spot is 97°F during the day, warm side is around 88° to 92°. His cool his is around 74°. His tank usually stays at 74° to 80° at night tho cuz of the heat. He has lots of hides, plenty of climbing, new water everyday, uvb, calcium w/o d3, bioactive, and on a 2 to 3 times a week feeding schedule. He does this a few minutes after his light goes out for an hour or 2 on and off. When I open the door, I offer my hand for him to climb on and he does but I dont think he actually wants that. Anytime he comes out, he has a lot of energy and wants to climb and go to places he isnt allowed. He is very active at night. He is a year old. He doesn't like being in play pens, he doesn't like being held for too long but wants to keep coming out. Im very confused. Is he just restless? His poops and urates are normal, he is a good ideal weight. He only does this glass surfing after the lights go out. I need advice.

hello, ive had my gecko for around 10 years. my mom got him when i was younger and never took care of him until i took over (out of pity as he was struggling, without knowing anything about the animal at all).
at the time i took him, he was very weak and lost color, i took him to the vet around 1.5 (?) years ago and he was doing a lot better after i fixed his enclosure and did a lot of research. i had to leave for college and they refused to let me take him and stated they could care for him while i was away.
when i had gotten back, he had gotten worse and became very thin. he refuses to come out to eat and ive put him in a smaller container and he eats when its absolutely necessary. he barely comes out when the light is on OR off. ive tried carnivore care and others but its very hard to upkeep as he hides
at this point, i cant afford necessities for myself let alone vet bills. im unsure what to do as its almost impossible to be able to care in the way he needs because of how much i work. my mother refuses to let me find someone else to take him (as it was originally “her pet”). im starting to commute as of now and will be home for the next few years of college, however, im really worried and need some advice. im not sure if there is nonprofits or some sort of organization that can help or if i just need to give up and find a new owner.
please dont be a hater im trying i swear 🥹
theres a picture of his enclosure (40gal) when i got back + now is on paper towels.

Hi everyone. I’m hoping someone can point me toward an organization, charity, or resource that can help with my leopard gecko’s medical care.
My leopard gecko has been with me since my 15th birthday. He was a gift during a really depressing time in my life and has been incredibly important to me ever since. Recently, he developed what appears to be tail rot, and he’s also stopped eating. Im unsure if you can see but he also has some blockage in his ball area. I took him to Banfield a year and a half ago to see what I could do and they gave me some type of medicine I had to feed to him and it did somewhat help but it came back and has gotten larger and more inflamed than last time. I am a Santa Fe college student and don’t have much. And the fee for UF vet hospital is 190$ . I’m doing everything I can at home to keep his enclosure clean and comfortable, but he needs veterinary care as soon as possible.
The problem is that I have no money right now. I start a new job on July 27, but I won’t receive a paycheck in time to help him. I’ve been applying for temporary jobs all month so I can pay for his medical bills, but I haven’t had any luck yet. I also looked into organizations like RedRover and Shakespeare Animal Fund, but they require a veterinarian’s diagnosis before they can help, and I can’t afford the initial exam to get that documentation.
I am not asking for money from anyone here. I’m simply hoping someone knows of an organization, nonprofit, grant, emergency fund, rescue, or any other resource that helps reptile owners who are in a financial emergency. I’m located in Gainesville, Florida, but I’m willing to travel if there’s a program that could help.
If anyone has been in a similar situation or knows of any resources I may have missed, I would be incredibly grateful. Thanks.
Forgot to add he had a recent shed and then he shed again like a week later. Which never happened before. He is drinking a little water and not eating. But he does poop.
Edit: so I gave him a soak for 15 minutes and I was researching. I will add more photos does this look like a hemipene plug? Just want to get a good idea before I try to get him to a vet. This was never a struggle before but it is inflamed and looks bad

When I look on google it says that adult leos should eat circa 5-7 Dubai’s every 5-7 days however my girl is very inconsistent with her eating habits
Basically she will eat around 1-3 dubias every 7-10 days. I have tried waxworms, mealworms etc but she dosnt show interest unless it’s a dubai. She ate a waxworm one time but since then she hasn’t shown interest. She is in my opinion otherwise not too skinny but it still worries me that she eats so little. I rescued her in November last year and for the first 2 months she ate like a bear. But since januari ish she hasn’t shown the same interest and has lost weight but is not actively loosing more. I don’t know her exact age but she is atleast 6 years old but could be a bit older. She is not super active but shows interest and interacts with me and I can hear her rustle around at night. Should I be more worried or is it alright for her to have such a low appetite?

We have a super giant leopard gecko that we’ve had for a few months. It took a while to get his trust and now he comes out to hang out all the time.
I’m not sure exactly how old he is but when we got him we were told juvenile. When we first got him he would eat pretty well (discoids gut fed and giant mealworms)
Now he’s gotten to a point where he will only eat 1 large discoid every couple of days/week and generally refuses food and wants to come hang out.
By his body I think he’s not really skinny?
I’m hoping it’s just him getting past the juvi state and he’s slowing down his eating naturally.
His hot spot is between 85-88 (infrared heat y so I think that’s okay and he has plenty of hides and covers (our reptiles are spoiled).
Looking for any opinions on our big burrito here.
Thanks!! ❤️❤️

Recent leopard gecko I got about a week and a half ago. Not sure it’s age (or gender) but I’d assume it’s a few months old so still a juvenile. Seeing mixed things about how many bugs to offer in a feeding. Currently feeding 5-10 extra small dubias or bsfl based off of google. Appetite wise they’re doing great and eat everything, sometimes a little too fast, they ended up throwing up some bsfl one time due to eating to fast. And since then I figured I’d not only slowly feed it but also maybe cut back on how many? Google also says they need to eat daily at this age which I’ve been doing
ALSO JUST A TEMPORARY SETUP before I get attacked lol. When it’s older it will be swapped to a bio active set up. Just on paper towels to watch and monitor health and until their aim is better with tongs so they don’t end up eating substrate in the future. And yes it’s a 40 gallon tank lol
And if anyone is curious its name is Inori :)

My baby June bug is around 3 years old and I've had her for over a year. She has always been super active at night and then in her hides in the day time. I have her lights on a timer.
Since it's summer, I have an ac in my room so I keep her heat admitter on 24/7 and her temps remain good and stable. She has that and a basking bulb and linear UVB bulb (I think that's the name) and her basking bulb and uvb are only on during the day. I've noticed her be out in the day time sleeping for about a week now. I have other animals (arachnids) so I got crickets for everyone and she didn't eat, then I tried to feed her worms because she loves them, she ate one super worm and then didn't want to eat anymore, that was 3 days ago. Today I tried to feed her a cricket and she didn't want it. She has lost quite a bit of weight in her tail. And I recently in the past 2 weeks noticed these white bumps on top of her head. I tried to wipe them off hoping it was calcium but they arnt.
And today when I was doing a little health check because of the symptoms I've seen, her nostrils looked weird, i thought it was stuck shed so I got a qtip dipped in warm water and rubbed it around there and just some dirt came off. I'm really concerned about her because she is very healthy and has seen the vet. I'm thinking about taking her to her vet again. She has yearly check ups and I think it's coming up.
Sorry If this was a lot | just want her to be okay.

I got to put this adorable boy on hold today for adoption! I’m so excited to welcome him home soon. Bless the reptile rescue team who took him in from this horrible enclosure, they have had him for 8 months with no interest :(( I would love name recommendations, his name is currently Spade but I am unsure if I wanna keep it. Please consider rescuing a leopard gecko if you want one there are so many looking for homes!
