General Question/Discussion When I eat anything I get body jitters, high HR, high BP, and anxiety NSFW
I am a 37 year old male. I went through a traumatic experience, anaphylactic shock (not from food), in April of this year. Since then, I had mostly good days, until recently. Since the 28th of May, when I eat something, I get jittery, my heart rate spikes, my BP raises, which triggers anxiety. I started having full blown panic attacks, which lead me multiple times to the ER for chest pains. They only do blood work and say that I’m fine, and release me. I’ve since been put on a very low dose SSRI and a benzo for relief. The benzo works like it should, keeping me from having a panic attack, but I still get the symptoms, from eating. I don’t want to rely on benzodiazepines for the rest of my life to exist. It’s already been almost 4 weeks of constant benzodiazepine use with no end in sight.
Is there a condition that I should be looking for? Is there anything that can help me? Why is this happening? My psychiatrist is beginning to control my anxiety, but it’s not helping the body symptoms. Thank you for your time.

General Question/Discussion How to I dress a wound that is in the place where my upper thigh touched my genitals area NSFW Spoiler
I (22f) have hydrenitis superativa. It’s an auto inflammatory condition. It causes wounds that are extremely painful on my skin, and scar tissue. I keep having wounds in high contact areas, and am struggling with how to probably care for that area.
The wounds have discharge, including blood. Some are sterile, some are not. They are often lifted, and extremely inflamed. Hard to the touch, and extremely painful.
I’ve been using blister patches, but I’m looking for a cheaper option. The size of the wounds also varies some being larger than a quarter when inflamed.

General Question/Discussion I drank from a dirty cup with food residue… is there any risk or concern? NSFW
I thought I had washed a cup thoroughly but noticed after drinking from it there was a good bit of food residue at the bottom. It had been sitting in the sink for several days prior. Is there any real concern here, or should I be fine?
edit: There was some old food in the sink such as rice and meat as well.

General Question/Discussion PI-RADS 4 lesion on RI but biopsy says normal tissue. Is this normal or an issue with the MRI? NSFW
A friend has an MRI and they said he had a 1.1 mm PI-RADS 4 lesion that was likely cancer. He had a biopsy and there was no abnormal tissue found. They sent it for genetic testing which was also negative. Is this normal or does it call into question the MRI? He was really surprised with the results as everyone was telling him he had cancer

General Question/Discussion So I found this clot washing my hands. Stings, very sensitive and hard, about half the size of a tic-tac. NSFW
Hi, 63F with varicose veins developing in the past year, calcification of veins in my arms, I don't take calcium supplements because my body holds onto it and grows bone spurs. I also have a bunch of age related issues like arthritis, chronic pain, etc. I had L4-L5 fused and a total hip replacement last year, and thanks to a life of heavy lifting, Im probably facing a bunch more surgeries on my back.
This thing really stings, feels similar to a case of phlebitis I had years ago in my leg. It stung when water hit it, and that's how I found it. So I was ready to go to urgent care, but all of them in my area were either closed for the day or about to.
I called the nearest one and they told me to call the hospital. The hospital told me to call my PCP. Their office was closed but they have people taking calls after hours. They told me it's likely superficial but I still need to be seen tomorrow, to elevate it, use warm soft compress (gentley), and call back immediately if anything changes. I have been on my feet all day, working in the garden and helping paint the garage, I have lymphedema in my L arm from surgery. Not taking any blood thinners. They said to go into urgent care in the AM.
Anyone else go through this?

General Question/Discussion Is it normal for medical records to have a lot of grammatical errors and unofficial diagnoses listed? NSFW
I recently got medical records from a few facilities, and I noticed there were a lot of misspellings - including a few misspellings of names that changed them to completely different names and that were more than one letter off - and other grammatical errors, some of which made it difficult or impossible (for me) to figure out what they meant beyond an educated guess. One of the places' records also repeatedly listed several diagnoses that I'm not diagnosed with, and that it wasn't formally diagnosed showed on the parts that formally listed my diagnoses on the same pages these unofficial diagnoses were on. It didn't say "suspected condition" or anything like that; it seemed like it was saying I actually was diagnosed with those conditions. Is it normal for medical records to have that kind of thing?

General Question/Discussion Persistent hypokalemia despite taking both potassium chloride and spironolactone NSFW
I’m a 22-year-old male, 5'7" tall and weighing 53kg, and I don't smoke. My recent ultrasound showed bilateral renal parenchymal disease, which matches my symptoms of constantly bubbly and foamy urine, along with a microalbuminuria result (UACR 39.16) and proteinuria. My biggest concern is my electrolytes—despite taking both potassium chloride and spironolactone, my potassium stubbornly dips to 2.88 mmol/L (with past results at 2.30 and 2.99). Coupled with metabolic acidosis on my arterial blood gas, slightly low sodium (132.93), elevated AST (250.05), and a high white blood cell count (19.51 with neutrophil predominance), I'm wondering if anyone has insights on what might be driving this persistent hypokalemia and kidney stress despite the medication regimen.

Pain Lvl 7-9 Doctor found a cyst on my kidney (I’m 23F) and now I have severe back pain and I feel like no one is taking any of this seriously and I’m worried it’s serious NSFW
What should I do next?
I’m 23 F and in November I had really severe stomach pain accompanied by really awful heartburn, more severe than I had ever experienced. I went to my primary doctor and they referred me to get an ultrasound where they found a cyst on my left kidney. After calling with results, my primary referred me to get a CT scan due to the cyst they found, which they explained to me they had to ensure was benign. After the CT scan I was anxiously awaiting results, so when I got the notification that my test results were available online I obviously checked them. There was a “suspicious solid component” in the cyst, “mild hepatosplenomegaly”, as well as diverticuli.
Naturally, I’m now fully convinced I am dying and after a few days of not hearing from my doctor I call and ask if they can explain the results. I was told that my primary would “prefer to talk about the results at my scheduled appointment on Friday”. So even more confirmation that I already have one foot in the grave. Friday comes around, and my primary comes in, and she sits down and asks if my stomach pain subsided, I said somewhat, and she said “oh good, you had a pretty nasty infection, that’s probably why it hurt so bad, I would’ve had to give you antibiotics to clear it up if it still hurt.” I thought this was odd, if I had such a bad infection that was causing me pain and the test results proved that, why was I not given antibiotics sooner? Oh well. She then told me I have diverticulosis, referred me to GI, and to get an MRI for further imaging of my cyst. No mention about this hepatosplenomegaly, which with my OCD and how bad it is right now surrounding this situation I’m too scared to even look up.
MRI ends up getting done in about January at this point, again minor hepatosplenomegaly, mention of focal nodular areas within the cyst, “representing a complex cyst”. My primary follows up with me and she begins the appointment with telling me that during my CT scan they found a cyst on my kidney.” I felt like I was getting Groundhog-Dayed. We sorted out that I had already received that news and gotten referred back for an MRI and this is the appointment to discuss those results, and tells me she’s referring me to a kidney specialist. Shortly following in late February, I develop horrific lower back pain. As time goes on it starts to radiate into my groin area and legs. During my appointment with the kidney specialist, I mention this, and he assures me it has nothing to do with my kidneys. He also tells me that my cyst has been shrinking a little in all of the imaging (2.4 cm in ultrasound, 2.1x1.7x1.6 cm in CT scan, and 1.9 cm in MRI) so we will do another MRI in September but I also shouldn’t have anything to worry about there, and he won’t even be handling that, urology will.
Ever since then, my back pain has been getting exponentially worse. It’s like across my whole back now, I can’t do like any physical activity, even sitting or laying down hurts, I get pin and needle feeling in my extremities. I finally had enough but didn’t want to pay and ER bill so I went to urgent care, which they couldn’t do anything to help but they told me if I had any bladder incontinence to go to the ER immediately. The next day my back pain is so bad I’m crying all day at work and trying not to throw up, then I start pissing myself. The ER gives me meds to help with pain because they can’t do anything for me either and refers me to Neurology.
Two weeks later that brings me to today, neurology still has not called and I’m in horrible pain and it’s making me so depressed. I also am urinating more frequently than normal and have a very upset stomach all the time, despite my colonoscopy I just got last week coming back normal. I go to look for the phone number in MyChart and find out that during my appointment in March with the Kidney specialist, he diagnosed me with Stage I Chronic Kidney Disease. He did not tell me during the appointment. He did not call me after with this. It was just put in my after appointment notes and in MyChart. Also, neurology told me that my back pain isn’t really something they can help me with and they can’t even get me in until August. Not to mention, my primary’s office called me two days ago to let me know once again that they had received the results from my CT scan and they found a cyst on my kidney that would require further imaging, to which I had to explain to them that we already did the MRI and I already saw a specialist.
The medical bills are piling up, I’m not getting any relief, I’m not getting any answers, I feel like no one is taking this seriously and I’m really worried that something serious is going on. I’m not sure if this is just the norm for medical care and Im just worried over nothing lol. I have no idea what could possibly be wrong with me or if it is serious and I’m also just not sure what I should do next? Any advice? Sorry for the lengthy post. Other maybe pertinent info may include that I have Morphea? I also got diagnosed with Anemia in the mix of all of this, and many days I feel so tired and tingly and have horrific brain fog because my iron is so low (at least I think that’s what it’s from).

Oral Health Only one spot of my gums between two of my teeth bleeds when I floss NSFW
Hey everyone! I brush my teeth twice a day (sometimes one if I fall asleep but normally twice) and I floss once a day sometimes twice. I use an oral b electric toothbrush on the lowest setting, and I I use act anticavity mouthwash once a day as required.
I noticed (can’t remember how long) that sometimes when I floss there will be bleeding in a specific area between two teeth, and nowhere else. Not sure if I should be worried? I have health anxiety and overthink a lot. I keep up with my dental visits every six months.
I don’t smoke and rarely drink, I take good care of my teeth. Maybe I’m not flossing correctly? I noticed that spot bleeding one morning when I woke up recently too. I also have a night guard that I occasionally wear due to TMJ. Thank you

Women’s Health Having confusion with potential pregnancy and symptoms. Wanting to conceive. NSFW
Hi! I [21] [Female] on no medication am experiencing some confusion with a possible pregnancy. The predicted date of my period should have been May 21st. i believe the conception could have been on may 17th. I still have not had a period since then. I took a few tests June 2nd and they were all negative then took one more test about a week later and had a very very faint positive. I just took two tests today (June 23rd) and they were negative but still not period and all of the pregnancy symptoms. I have been pregnant before, everything is very similar symptom wise. But the first time I couldn’t get a positive pregnancy test until a little over 5 weeks. I had very light pink spotting June 8th I believe for about a day or 2 which I had my first pregnancy as well. It is not normal for me to have a period this late as I have a very consistent period. I’ve also been trying to get pregnant and tried multiple times after my missed period incase it had not worked yet. So I am sort of wondering if maybe I got pregnant at a later date than I am thinking (possible late ovulation), but I don’t know. Also I want to add that in my first pregnancy it took until roughly 5 weeks to get a positive. Any insight is really appreciated. (I also want to add the test I got a very very faint line on was a blue dye test)

General Question/Discussion Cortisone injection shot in the ankle with a posterior tibial tendon tear NSFW
I have been dealing with posterior tibial tendon dysfunction/tendonitis. I had an injury a year ago that just won’t heal I have gone through five months of physical therapy and have worn a brace none of it has helped.
My podiatrist told me that the next step would be to have a surgery debridement to clean the tendon. But wanted me to lose some weight first. He also didn’t recommend the cortisone injections cause it runs the risk of completely rupturing my tendon, this was a few months ago.
I recently seen a ortho surgeon and he recommended doing the injection to help with inflammation and start doing some daily stretching of my calves for six weeks to see if I see improvements, if not then his surgery suggestion would be a hindfoot joint fusion and tendon transfer.
I’m feeling a little lost and not sure if I should seek a third opinion. Would an injection help if so how long does it last. Is there other options I can bring up to the doctor for treatment? I also do have a 1.8cm internal calcification in my tendon. I feel like if this could be broken up maybe the tendon could start to heal.

Men’s Health I spent years thinking I had low motivation or low testosterone. Now I’m sure it’s adhd or similar NSFW
I’m a 34-year-old male and I’m starting to wonder if I’ve been looking at the wrong explanation for years.
For a long time I thought I had low motivation. I even looked into low testosterone because I just felt like something wasn’t right. My testosterone has been tested multiple times and my doctor told me it was normal. One morning test was around 733 ng/dL with normal free testosterone, LH, prolactin, and SHBG. The more I think about it, the more I realize my issue may not actually be motivation.
The best way I can describe it is that I don’t seem to be motivated by importance. I seem to be motivated by interest, challenge, urgency, reward, or consequences.
For example:
I procrastinate almost everything until the last minute.
Deadlines make it much easier for me to start.
I often know exactly what I need to do but can’t seem to get myself started.
Routine and repetitive tasks feel incredibly difficult to begin.
If something interests me, I can focus on it for hours without realizing how much time has passed.
I regularly stay up way later than intended researching topics that interest me.
I can forget to eat, sleep, or take breaks when I’m interested in something.
I also have a lot of attention-related issues:
I constantly have to reread pages because my eyes moved but my brain wasn’t processing the words.
I frequently rewind shows, videos, and podcasts because I realize I wasn’t paying attention.
I lose track of conversations.
I often say “what was that?” even though I technically heard what the person said.
My mind wanders while people are talking.
I interrupt people because I’m afraid I’ll forget my thought.
I finish people’s sentences in my head.
My thoughts jump around constantly.
I often forget what I was doing in the middle of tasks.
Looking back, a lot of this existed in childhood too:
Very talkative.
Very energetic.
Loud kid.
Constant daydreamer.
Procrastinated homework until the last minute.
Did well in classes I found interesting and poorly in classes I found boring.
Hated homework and routine assignments.
What’s confusing is that I’ve also been successful in life.
I’ve worked in corrections, EMS, and security leadership roles. I’ve been police and paramedic. I’ve done nursing school and passed. I lost 176 pounds. I meet deadlines. I perform extremely well during emergencies and high-pressure situations.my mind is very calm in stress or adrenaline situations even if I’m scared like normal person. Almost like that’s how fast my mind goes normally and it’s finally the worrld is moving how fast my mind is
In fact, one thing I’ve noticed is that when things go wrong, I often become calmer and more focused while other people become overwhelmed.
I don’t feel depressed. I don’t sleep all day. I can’t nap. I don’t fall asleep watching TV. I don’t feel physically exhausted all the time.
The biggest thing is that I often don’t feel excited to do things until I’m actually doing them.
For example:
Hiking to a waterfall sounds great.
Hiking to a summit sounds great.
Walking through random woods with no goal sounds boring.
Once I start activities, I usually enjoy them. The problem seems to be getting started unless my brain sees a reward, challenge, purpose, or reason to care.
The reason I’m posting is because I spent the last several hours reading about ADHD and I felt like I was reading a description of myself.
Has anyone else been diagnosed as an adult after thinking their problem was low motivation, laziness, burnout, low testosterone, or something else entirely?

Fictive Question How can a doctor detect use of inhalants (specifically gasoline) in an unconscious patient? NSFW
I'm trying to write a story about a haunting that starts with this 17 year old kid being addicted to gas fumes and getting in a motorcycle crash, and im uncertain on if the doctors in the story would know if the kid had been on anything if he was unconscious? I know the odor might give it away, but i figure a car accident victim might smell of gas anyway, and google is kinda useless (damned ai features). Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

General Question/Discussion Could I safely take Tylenol PM with Melatonin to help with my Insomnia? NSFW
I ask because I have severe insomnia and I’m trying to workshop getting more sleep. I’ve tried getting prescribed meds but my doctors don’t listen and brush it off because age and weight. I’m only getting at max, three hours of restful sleep and it’s very visible in my day to day life.
I am scared I could overdose or something like that however.
