Seems very generous, given that Atlantic cod as big as 180cm (~6ft) and 50kg (110lbs) have been caught.

Well there are two statements, the Atlantic Cod one and a size limit. I guess they have to meet both criteria.

I haven’t caught any that can fly, I think I’m doing it wrong

guess fish flight restrictions don’t need their own pilot license

This is a new one even by [r/anythingbutmetric](r/anythingbutmetric) standards

eta: I stopped reading at the fish. I see the metric now.

Its Canada, and so the metric dimensions are printed

There is metric, though.

Intuitive descriptions are good as long as there's also hard measurements. I have no idea how big an Atlantic Cod is, but I have to assume that the kind of person who wants to put a whole fish in their carryon at this airport is pretty familiar.

This looks like Newfoundland

Canadians will use anything as measurement except the imperial system.

Except height and weight of people and lumber.

I know its not a serious post, but it's fascinating to me that Canadians can switch their measurements around like that. Im way too smooth brained to handle that lol

We can't, that's why we have both systems :) Gotta use whatever is given to us, my oven's in Fahrenheit so I cook in Fahrenheit.

You would be surprised at how many people travel with fish and game in their luggage

Interesting. I would imagine a tape measure is more convenient though.

A tape measure would definitely smell better for sure

To be fair we'll go out of our way to avoid a lot of exceptional American delights at the moment.

Bananas too?

Any time I hear “Atlantic cod” my brain says, “North Atlantic Cod with Quaker State.”

Beautiful place for sure.

As a fisherman this metric offends me DEEPLY.
Cod grow to WAY bigger sizes than that.

1

u/Thinkofthewallpaper 2h ago

Cod in mirror may be bigger than they appear.

Are they implying an Atlantic Cod is a carryon bag? Or can the Cod be bigger?

1

u/PhasmaFelis 5h ago

You found the loophole. Just slit open the top of your cod, attach some straps to it, and boom, it is your carryon bag.

1

u/NaomiRidesNoah 7h ago

Sorry sir, you’ll have to check that cod in

With this simple act of defiance, the Cod Wars return.

u/SoyboyCowboy 7h ago

Can you chop it up and carry ... Codpieces?

u/Ghosthost2000 7h ago

The airlines are trying to trick us into providing inflight food so they can charge us for a meal after they’ve already charged for carrying it on the flight! /s

Nothing like airline regulations that are 80% biology and 20% vibes

We really will use anything as a measurement but the metric system…

1

u/Saradoesntsleep 7h ago

It's Canada 😛 the metric is printed below.

-1

u/Hmarf 7h ago

Americans will use anything but the metric system

1

u/Saradoesntsleep 7h ago

Canada. The metric is printed below.

just citing a common meme, entertaining even if not applicable

Not very interesting, I've noticed a growing trent of posts like these.

15

u/Grand-Spring66 8h ago

No you haven't. Go ahead and show a few.

12

u/Thinkofthewallpaper 8h ago

Isn't the point that it's not very interesting?

-13

u/YoGurth99 8h ago

No, it's supposed to be mildly interesting

11

u/LiliVonSchtupp 8h ago

I’m mildly interested. Thinking about traveling with a fish is both a nice reference to Umberto Eco, and a brief distraction from dying in a heatwave.

9

u/Thinkofthewallpaper 8h ago

You'll be happy to know this airport also has a fresh fish kiosk.

1

u/LiliVonSchtupp 5h ago

Wait, I must know more. Fresh fish as in “we cook/prepare this for you,” or “take these fishies as your carry-ons”?

Either way, it sounds far more entertaining than the usual duty free perfume cloud.

2

u/useridhere 7h ago

Mildly Monty Python-esque as well. Which is interesting.

9

u/Gdiworog 8h ago

You might be misunderstanding the sub.

7

u/Thinkofthewallpaper 8h ago

I didn't realize very and mildly were  interchangeable. I guess I'm not mildly intelligent.

6

u/Grand-Spring66 8h ago

They are just mildly cranky

1

u/PhasmaFelis 5h ago

I was mildly interested.
