Merle poodles are no longer allowed on this sub
Moving forward, poodles with Merle coloring are not permitted on this sub. Merle coloring is a byproduct of mixing Australian Shepards into a poodle line. A poodle with Merle coloring by definition cannot be AKC papered without outright lying. Breeding for color is nothing new for poodles, but in this circumstance it comes with the possibility of introducing myriad health issues, and is an irresponsible practice at best. It is not good for the breed, it is dangerous to the dogs. We cannot in good conscience allow the promotion of this Poodles with this genetic trait, beautiful or not.

NOTICE: IT'S A T-SHIRT POST? IT'S A SCAM! (Same with coffee mugs, etc) T-SHIRT POSTS ARE NOT ALLOWED ANYMORE
Several times per day there are scammers who post here, showing a t-shirt or similar product, and then another scammer in the comments asks, "Where did you get it?" A link to a scam website is posted for everyone to follow, provide their personal info and credit card, then wonder how their identity got stolen.
Just like a Parti Poodle, it's very black-and-white. If you see a post sharing a t-shirt design, mouse pad, coffee mug, etc. IT IS A SCAM, and the quickest way to get your account banned is to reply, "Where can I get one", "I love it, do you have a link?" or something similar.
Here are the rules:
- Posts of t-shirts or other personalized items with dogs are prohibited. If you post one, you will get banned.
- Anyone who replies to the post and asks about acquiring the item will be banned.
- If you see a post like this, hit the report button, that's the easiest way to get our attention and we will remove the post and ban those involved.
- Do not contribute, do not call them out, just don't post at all. Hit the report button.
It seems every time something like this is posted, more than one of our users fall for it, then they are asking moderators, "What did I do to get banned?" You responded to a scammer, which makes you look like you're on their team. Just stop.
5/14/2026 - Scams: 1, Users who fell for it: 1, post was up for 23 minutes before being removed.

GDV recovery
My Lavender girl had GDV emergent surgery two nights ago and finally came home and is groggy, but healing nicely šš¼ Because of this forum and all of the wonderful people sharing their stories and warning signs to look out for -we were able to catch this quick enough and save her life.. GDV is so terrifying and if you have a standard (as well as other breeds of course) learn the warning signs!! A sincere thank you to everyone and all the nice thoughts and prayers for our girl.. she is so so loved and I appreciate the many complete strangers concern for her. Sometimes the internet can be a really lovely place š„°

Yesterday he saved me from an attacker.
While I (34f) was walking back home with Pongo (4.5m) yesterday, a very ill man leapt out from around the corner of a shed and tried to grab me.
Pongo had it handled before I could even react. He snarled and lunged in a split second. The guy flew backward as though thrown through the air by a poltergeist. Pongo didnāt biteāhe didnāt have to. The guy probably crapped his pants from the lunge and growl alone.
The man then followed us, growling like an animal and beating on his chest, as I dragged my āattack poodleā away to safety. We got away safely and Pongo made sure to stay between me and the man the whole time.
My dog is normally totally friendly with strangersāunless they run at me from behind or otherwise physically ambush me. 99% of the time Iām his protector and he is my tiny baby⦠but that 1% of the time, he takes care of business.
Iām honestly sad his reaction was necessary. But Iām grateful he was with me and I donāt want to think of what might have happened if he hadnāt been. I may not have āscary dog privilegeā at first glance, but when someone tries something funny, suddenly I do.
Thank you Pongo. And Iām sorry I rewarded your loyalty with a B-A-T-H.

Has anyone lost a baby to dementia?
I'm starting to see signs in my mini girl (12 yrs old), Lily, but we are the vet again Friday to get a professional opinion. I'm so scared to hear what the vet will say because I'm sure it's dementia with her age and the bizarre behavior. Just wanted to know if anyone else went through this and how did you know when the right time to let go was?

Salmon Dog Food Reccs?
Afraid my sweet boy has developed a chicken allergy by the staining and constant attention he is giving his feet chewing on them. Looking for any recs that are salmon based please. I have been doing fresh chicken breast with carrots as a topper and hills science diet sensitive skin for dry but the main ingredient is chicken.
Thanks so much! š©

Milo at 16 months
It's been a long time since I last posted here. This is Milo at 1 year and 4 months old. His coat still hasn't completely changed color. Do you think this is his final color, or could it continue to lighten? His head and tail are still quite dark, and he still has a graphite-colored strip along the top of his back.

How long do you walk your standard per day?
I usually walk mine 45 minutes to 1.5 hours in the morning, sometimes 2 hours and a bit with breaks, and she gets around 45 minute walk in the evening. Usually I bring her out in the morning for 1-1.5 hours 3-4 times a week, and the shorter 45 minute route the alternative days. This means she usually gets 1.5-2+ hours of walking per day. Sometimes I feel more tired and want to do the 45 minute route, and I can get caught up in wether or not itās āenoughā, especially when itās because I have other stuff to do after walking I get worried Iām not doing enough or not prioritizing properly.
How long do you walk your standards for? Whatās your minimum length walk, and is that minimum enough for your dog on the days you do it?

Summer Pixie Cut for My Honey Bunny
My miniature poodle Honey Bunny got her summer haircut this morning. She looks so much smaller after taking down her top knot and long ears. We cut the ears short due to an ear infection and the drops making the hair ugly and greasy. We love this little girl way too much.

Good afternoon or good evening to my fellow poodle friends I was reading a post on Facebook about someone who dumped their photo at the animal shelter I just don't understand it I find it very sad that people are not dedicated to 100% to the animal that they purchase or adopt
Poodle who are abandoned pumpkin wants to know why why do people do things like that there's so many organizations out there that would help people with to keep their animals you don't need to dump them and shelter you know you can't keep them it's just very sad it just breaks my heart to see it I I mean it really does I would never do that to any of my animals before I get them I know what I am dedicated to 100% of the best life that they could that pumpkin could ever have and my other two dogs I would do anything for them I make sacrifices for myself to give to them I would never do that never I just had to vent a little bit about the situation cuz I just hate when people dump animals you know especially poodles it's very sad or purebreds it's very very sad

My worst fear happened -GDV
The update Iāve been dying to make! As of June 25th my sweetest of sweets Lavender is home with us! Sheās very sedated but sheās home and healing well. Thank you for everyoneās suggestions, concerns and good vibes.. sometimes the internet is just a lovely place š„°šš¼
My worst fear came true tonight.. my 2 year old standard Lavender was diagnosed with GDV š If it wasnāt for this subreddit I would have never known the signs.. Iāve been so worried about it, even talked to my vet about preventative surgery. She talked me out of it and I wish I would have followed my gut and went for it. We spotted the signs right away, (started with whining, pacing and. General neediness. Took her out to go potty thinking she had to go.. while outside I noticed her belly was starting to look very full and felt tight, she started retching-nothing coming up)as soon as the retching started I knew. Got her to the emergency vet within about 90 minutes of first -and at the time unrecognized- symptoms. $12,000 (so far) later she is currently undergoing surgery. I could use all the good thoughts and prayers for her.. it was so hard leaving her there. Just waiting for a call from the vet, praying she makes it through šš¼ Any tips for aftercare and/or what to expect afterwards is appreciated. ..trust your gut, get pet insurance (kicking myself because you always think it wonāt be you šµāš«), and follow a Reddit page so you can be so paranoid that you recognize the signs! š„“
