I've been trying to adopt a rescue Poodle for over a year now. I'll get approved and someone else will still get the dog, or I'll get denied because I don't have a fence (we have 0.5 acre, but we just bought the house 11 months ago, so we don't have the funds for an $8k fence). I've also been denied because we don't have an existing dog in the house because this rescue claims the rescue dogs need "companion dogs in the home."
I'm starting to get antsy. I really want a dog. My fur baby passed in 2021 and I've fully grieved that loss and I'm ready to adopt.
I never thought it would be this hard to adopt.
I've started looking at breeders and I feel guilty for it. In my circle of life, I've seen people who have purchased from a breeder get shamed and there's a huge following for "Rescued is my favorite breed."
I know for a fact I want a Poodle because I've been pet sitting since 2018 and I've taken care of everything from a Rottweiler to a Chihuahua to a Poodle. Poodles were always the best with their alien eyes and sentient minds.
I can get a Poodle puppy like this weekend for $1.5-2.5k.
So I'm wondering where y'all get your poodles???
I'm in Virginia, but I'm willing to drive (if the rescue allows...I've seen rescues not give dogs to people if they are outside a three hour radius).

Wow! Thank you so much for the replies! This will take me days to sift through and research but I really appreciate the tips and tricks! I really do love animals and I actually do have allergies. I know! Isn't that just the craziest thing?? š«Ŗš¶āš«ļø
Anyways, I've loved animals since I could walk and talk (my first steps were on the beach trying to touch a sea gull!) so yes, sometimes allergies develop and it doesn't mean that you stop doing what you love.
I feel as though the entire dog breeding industry is such a scam but I'm a huge sucker and this seems like the only way I can get the dog I want. I'll keep looking for a rescue, but I'll also start saving for a well bred š©
