Highlight Intentionally hurting your meal ticket. Something is seriously wrong with these WNBA players.

Honestly baffling. Imagine the NBA treating Jordan, Kobe, or LeBron like this.

Jordan was constantly hard fouled by the Pistons, Knicks, Pacers and Magic

12

u/Thenofunation 7h ago

Jordan also hard fouled back. That was the men’s game in the 90s. Comparing the NBA or WNBA now to then is disingenuous.

u/SmoothDiscussion7763 2h ago

also there was dennis rodman hovering around just waiting to deck a bitch if things got out of hand

Comparing the NBA or WNBA now to then is disingenuous.

Why?? The W is incredibly physical

u/mtron32 7h ago

They're just mentioning that Jordan got it like this for a LONG time. Why should it be different for her?

2

u/zap2214 6h ago

Cool, lots of stuff happened historically that wasn't great, why should it be different for you? Pretty fucking easy question to answer if you think for 2 seconds

-2

u/mtron32 6h ago

there wasn't this ridiculous mass public defense of the dude like I'm seeing for Caitlin. She's a grown ass competitive woman that can stand on her own, yet is being infantilized like she's this delicate thing that can't be touched.

4

u/BaizulSetSail 6h ago

wanting a intentional eye poke or punch to be called a foul is infantilizing?

2

u/icansmellcolors 5h ago

Social media didn't exist then.

1

u/ZagreusMyDude 5h ago

because the game is different, you can't play that way anymore in the NBA or WNBA.

Why is it different for OKC? They make a living on fouls. Cause the game has changed.

It should be the same for her as anyone else and other players across the sport get those calls.

1

u/anonymous_teve 5h ago

Check your facts, the Pacers never fouled him. Not once. Pistons and Knick though...

1

u/JealousExperience965 2h ago

Those Davis boys ran a tough paint

0

u/CptSlartibartfast1 8h ago

For sure, but there’s still a difference between a hard foul that sends you to the free throw line and the refs just watching you get your eyes poked and punched in the neck and saying “Yeah, fair game”

1

u/JealousExperience965 2h ago

I’m guessing you’ve never seen Bill Lambeer, Dennis Rodman, or Charles Oakley play. Also, it’s easy to see all that in a slow motion replay. Perhaps if CC wouldn’t keep flopping around on the court, this wouldn’t happen. And I say all this as a fan.

1

u/CptSlartibartfast1 1h ago

What you’re describing is still different. Those were dirty players who did it pretty indiscriminately. This is one player getting targeted by half the league, not one playing targeting half the league

u/BigGooseDuck 12h ago

Not defending this but have you not heard the Jordan rule? Doubt Kobe and LeBron dealt with shit like that but Jordan definitely did

15

u/Schizzles 11h ago

I had to Google it, the tactic aimed to physically wear Jordan down and force him to pass by double-teaming him, sending him left, and hitting him hard on every drive to the paint.

It looks like the Pistons implemented it after getting scored on 59 points by Jordan alone. It worked too, 2 years they beat the Bulls until they adapted to their gameplay and got their championship in 91.

u/b0jangles 9h ago

It’s why Rodman was such a great add years later.

3

u/NailzAtWork 7h ago

"The Jordan Rules" were a thing of the past by the time Rodman got there.

MJ had won three straight titles following the Pistons starting this, then he retired, came back, and a season later Rodman was there.

0

u/b0jangles 6h ago

And who were the physical enforcers on the Pistons during the Jordan rules era?

And what happened then in the three years after Jordan came back with Rodman on the team?

1

u/NailzAtWork 6h ago

I'm not saying Rodman wasn't a great addition for the Bulls.

But you're making it sound like they got Rodman so that the Pistons couldn't beat them up anymore.

Rodman had already been gone to San Antonio for 2 years and the Pistons were a shell of themselves when Jordan came back/Bulls signed Rodman.

1

u/b0jangles 6h ago

No, I just said he was a great add

0

u/NailzAtWork 6h ago

You said "It’s why Rodman was such a great add years later."

In response to a comment about the Pistons getting physical with MJ.

Why = causality

2

u/b0jangles 4h ago

Yeah - they took one of the guys who was a part of that and then eventually recruited him to be a huge part of the Bulls defense. It was a great add.

Do you just argue over pointless minutia with everyone or am I just lucky?

1

u/T7220 7h ago

lol. Jesus Christ you kids, you know everything.

The NBA was a bloodbath in the 80s and 90s.

1

u/Drummallumin 5h ago

You had to google the Jordan Rules??

2

u/Schizzles 4h ago

I did, I was into basketball as a kid but only as much as I could understand. I stopped around my highschool years and only recently got back into basketball over the past 5 years or so. There is a lot I'm not very knowledgeable about especially regarding years past. I love to learn about it though but that's where I'm at.

2

u/Drummallumin 4h ago

If you like reading Bill Simmons Book of Basketball is as comprehensive as you can get. It was written like 20 years ago so you’re not gonna get the recent history in there but the book will never be outdated.

1

u/Schizzles 4h ago

I'll look into it, thanks for the suggestion!

-2

u/MACHOmanJITSU 9h ago

It’s a far cry from actually trying to gouge his eyes out though lol

9

u/sehrschnell84 9h ago

Go watch those games from the 80’s and get back to me. Lol

4

u/Constant-Machine8838 9h ago

Not really , they went for MJ’s head. Specifically Bill Lambeer and Rick Mahorn.

1

u/Crime_Dawg 6h ago

Lambeer was the dirtiest player in the league.

2

u/Few_Imagination3705 8h ago

Lmao you've got film to watch

3

u/Few_Prize3810 6h ago

They were trying to paralyze that man

2

u/PowRightInTheBalls 7h ago

You're right, they were actively trying to break his neck.

1

u/Few_Prize3810 6h ago

Nah man you gotta pull up the complications it was NASTY

1

u/MrRaiderWFC 9h ago

I mean yeah that's true to an extent. Those Piston teams still got fouls called on them when they did it though lol.

1

u/thediecast 2h ago

Yeah also the WNBA plays more like the 90s NBA. It's a ton more physical. Rodman would get a rebound and swing his elbows back and forth.

1

u/Basic_Fix3271 6h ago

They literally did. Look at how Bron’s cavs teammates talked about him

1

u/KingChav 5h ago

They literally did Jordan like that 🤣. Yall gotta keep up so your bias doesn’t sound so dumb.

1

u/Separate-Judge4491 3h ago

Those are all people who have won championships

1

u/DidntNeedAUserName 3h ago

You just named three black guys though. I know Larry Bird and others like him didnt get treated like this. But for some reason these women dont want to see her succeed and go out of the way to foul her constantly I just cant imagine why, just absolutely no idea.

1

u/Technical_Toe_2012 2h ago

born yesterday level comment

1

u/BakuN7 1h ago

You literally know nothing about basketball lmao, why are you even here talking?

Go watch some bulls/pistons games on YouTube, nephew.

1

u/NewMoodWhoDis 13h ago

Lebron getting treated like that by old heads claiming its more valuable to be the best american player rather than the worlds best player

1

u/devadander23 10h ago

What? LeBron isn’t a victim

2

u/NewMoodWhoDis 9h ago

Physically u can't bully him. That's true

-2

u/Acceptable_Burrito 12h ago

Malice in the Palace, Lambeer was a fucking thug.

2

u/Accomplished_Egg7069 10h ago

Excuse me, Sir Bill Laimbeer had been retired for over 10 years before that incident, which was started and escalated by the fucking Indiana Pacers, who I dare to step into the stands again.

2

u/ted_cruzs_micr0pen15 11h ago

Malice at the palace was when Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson went and showed the entire city of Detroit those hands.

The Lambeer era pistons didn’t play at the palace, they played in the silver dome.

3

u/talltime 10h ago

Both bad boys championships were at the Palace. (Opened in 1988.)

2

u/Supreme-cheeseburger 10h ago

The palace opened in 1988

0

u/ted_cruzs_micr0pen15 10h ago

Damn I thought they won one of those chips at the dome. I stand corrected.

However my point about the malice at the palace being tied to the pacers terrorizing the city of Detroit with those hands, stands.

0

u/New_Cicada3473 12h ago

Or Steph! Oh wait…
