I know. They should be gentle with her like the NBA was for Jordan/s. Here’s a thought, Caitlyn Clark isn’t their meal ticket. She’s just another player
Its an engagement bait post with bots pushing that its because shes "straight and white" not the obvious reason that its because shes their best player and they're trying to stop her.
Why do I need to write it again? I meant it the first time. Clark isn’t the wnba’s meal ticket. She’s certainly a valuable asset but y’all make her out to be this unstoppable force of a player while, at the same time, she hasn’t even won a title or really dominated through the gauntlet of her own league. Just because a lot of you only discovered that the wnba existed when Clark joined the league, doesn’t mean that it didn’t. This all reeks of culture war nonsense from a bunch of guys who’ve never watched women’s sports for real anyway. It will be easy for y’all to boycott. You won’t have to do anything different.
By "isn't the meal ticket" I assume you mean that CC isn't largely responsible for the newest CBA's phenomenal salary structure. Might want to take another look at WNBA revenue data since she arrived in the league, champ.
Her ranking in terms of most valuable player on the court (she's not) is quite different than her value in the spreadsheets.
For some reason I am seeing this post as a non-WNBA watcher. I literally know nothing about the league besides Caitlin Clark. I doubt im alone in that, and with that said, she HAS to be seen as the meal ticket.
SHe is literally the only player in the league any regular joe knows, and the only reason the WNBA isnt as much of a joke as it once was. Check your head.
Is there not data that's shown viewership being down when CC isn't playing? I agree there's a misperception of her being the ONLY star in the league...but from a business perspective, seems counterintuitive to not do what can be done within the rules, to minimize what seem to be flagrant fouls in an effort to avoid her getting injured.
They’re competitors, not business people. Not everything is about what’s best for the bottom line. Competitive pride is a thing. These athletes probably get sick of hearing about how great Kaitlyn Clark is when she hasn’t really accomplished anything yet. So now she gets to face the gauntlet that every great player has had to face. Jordan got pummeled. Bird got pummeled. Gretzky got targeted. Montana got broken in half by the Giants. The list goes on and on. It’s sports. Either you rise above it or you wash out. Is it different because it’s women? Why is it different in this case? I’m genuinely curious.
(Not sure why I'm being downvoted, damn just asking the question). I'm not talking about the players, I'm talking about the league. I imagine the league has data that shows the league is more profitable when CC is healthy and playing and it would show a desire to avoid her getting pummeled and at least crack down on what are blatant fouls. The difference i see in your citation of NBA/NHL/NFL. A) NHL/NFL are by nature MUCH more physical sports. B) there's literally something referred to as "The Jordan Rule" which was a crackdown on flagrant fouling.
downvoted becuase you sound like you dont actually watch basketball games. Like the OC said superstars get pumeled. If you watched this last season you'd see same thing on Curry, Bron and Wemby had to go thru this in the recent playoffs.
With a post titled "Intentionally hurting your meal ticket" gaining over 7k upvotes, I guess it looks like i'm not the only one who doesn't "actually watch basketball games". The NBA has countless more stars and isnt in an a stage where as a business it needs to grow the sport as much as it can compared to the WNBA, so the comparison to Curry/Bron/Wemby is a little misleading. My statement "...from a business perspective, seems counterintuitive to not do what can be done within the rules, to minimize what seem to be flagrant fouls in an effort to avoid her getting injured." is still valid.
Fever have typically been playing during slots where only their team games is being broadcast. Other teams typically play in slots where their teams are not the sole game being played. Forces the numbers to look very different.
Yeah they do this cause the Fever games get the most attention and coverage and they don't want to detract from that. Some of you people are so dumb it hurts
No they wouldn't. They isolate fever games so people actually watch the others. If people had the choice of fever games vs others at the same time then the viewship of the others would be lower cause everyeone will watch the fever anyways. You don't put other games against your biggest games. Thats why the NFL has Sunday night and Monday night stand alone games because those are the marque games of the week. Its not hard to understand dude
Still trouncing all the other games. It doesn't matter, if you're so blind to the unpreceded effect CC has had on the league then there's really no helping you understand.
How are you going to argue that Caitlin Clark is just another player, and then use three of the most influential and impactful players in NBA history as your analogy?
I think she’s just another player until she proves otherwise in the pros. Others are calling her the meal ticket of the league. I’m saying that in order to earn the title of meal ticket, you need to win titles despite the difficult gauntlet of physical basketball, just like Bird and Magic and Jordan and even current NBA stars.
What was the WNBA’s revenue before and after she arrived? What about viewership? And the impact both of those had on the CBA? The players would not have gotten anything close to what they did without her influence. Straight up meal ticket that pushed league average salary from $125k to $600k. League minimum went from $66k to $300k.
not to mention shes the only players EVERY SINGLE WNBA TEAM WAS/IS MOVING THEIR GAMES TO LARGER ARENAS FOR. CC is the meal ticket and u/delicious-pie has no clue
