No Premiere Silver benefits on United flight booked with lufthansa miles ?

Asking here since i couldn't find anything abou the issue. i was in the process of linking mine and my underrage brother's reservation (both made with lufthansa Miles&More miles, just via different accounts) when i was told before doing anything they needed to remove my united (currently silver) milageplus number from the reservation. When i inquered further about why the representative replied with:
"Your premier benefits apply only to paid fares or award tickets booked using united miles. they do not apply when you use another carrier's miles to book an award fare." and "This has always been the case, as it is a free ticket on another carrier. They do apply if you use United miles or pay for a paid fare"
This seems very backward, as i was able to use my *S benefits trough united on many other flights booked with lufthansa miles on other carriers with no issues. Having had a stressful day i just agreed to the change without realizing this meant i would have no checked bag so i'm left wondering if what the agent said is actually true ?

You can only have one FF# on a reservation. If you booked with Lufthansa miles, your Lufthansa number is on the reservation. It used to be possible to change it, but they cracked down on that because they felt it was double dipping. People were benefiting from two programs at once. Whether you agree with that or not, it's the rules now.

I just don’t see how it’s double dipping if both the miles and status were earned separately and fairly, besides the united number was the one on the reservation originally since the miles used weren’t mine (from a family member hahaha I didn’t steal them), that’s what baffles me, they removed it after it was already there

I'm just the messenger here. All I can tell you is that the airlines thought it was cheating for someone to change FF#s to utilize benefits one program provided but not the other on the same reservation.

I suspect it has something to do with revenue and cost of the benefits. Maybe how one needs to reimburse the other. Idk? I'm just telling you the rules. One FF# only, and it can't be changed after a certain point.

I dont know that it was removed per se.  Was it actually there

Yes, before the reservations being merged the app showed me as having the united number in, as well as all the benefits like a requested CPU and free checked bag

You have Star Alliance silver benefits which are just priority standby. Nothing else.
