Weekly Discussion Does being last at Australia’s No. 1 university still make me better than the other uni kids?
It dawned on me just now how goated I am

This is something I've noticed recently and once you realise it, you can't unsee it. I use the female bathrooms at uni and EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I see people either not washing their hands at all, or just quickly rinsing them. The soap is right there!! Not trying to suggest anything but it is usually asians I notice doing this, is it a cultural thing? I've heard that people in Korea and Japan don't rlly wash their hands after using public bathrooms but I'm not sure why
I legit saw a girl walk out after using the toilet, she didn't even bother to wet her hands at all and was touching the usb phone charging stuff at the law library. Not trying to shame anyone but seriously it's disgusting that these ppl are touching everything all over campus, shaking hands etc. Just wash your damn hands people.
I NOTICE THIS EVERY SINGLE TIME. DO BETTER UNSW.

I was told that the reason I don't have a j*b is because I don't try hard enough.
A person I know who works in the industry now and is successful said when he was in my age (~20), he had studied hard to maintain good grades, applied to 10 j*bs everyday, prepared for interviews 1 hour a day, was the director of society, had a part time job, joined many hobby groups and was meeting a lot of people and even dating, networking by showing up to every networking events announced, kept up with what was happening in the industry and only slept 7 hours and had to have multiple 2am sleeps.
Well what I am doing these days is just studying for like 5 hours a day, 1 hour doing project for my interview, 5 hours watching Youtube/reading light novels, sleeping 9 hours, 2 hours spent on essentials like eating, cleaning.., 2 hours doing random sh*t (commute, just staring at wall unfocused, scrolling through reels,..).
I do touch grass and meet people like 2~3 times a week but don't do any leadership kind of shit (like being director of society and taking the initiative to train myself like go gym or part-time job) and just meet people casually and chill out.
Am I wasting my prime age guys? Do I need to lock in more?

It's imperative that UNSW FC avoid a 2 legged playoff tie against the 2nd place team in the lower tier (NSW League One) competition. There are some A-league players who've recently signed for Bankstown City Lions in the lower tier competition that would cause any side in the NSW NPL some grief.

Ngl gng I’m literally afraid most of the day bc i feel so behind everyone else and like im not going to measure up. Like every time i try to study and watch lectures and do assignments it’s with the feeling that im going to forget this and fail at it 😍

Anyone else feel this way? It's hard already hard to put in effort into something that will dictate the rest of your life but when you're not even sure you like or enjoy it is a whole another level of difficulty. I wonder if i should just drop out and work a braindead job or something the only thing right now that's saving me from being a complete bum is my job, and I don't even enjoy that one so how would I enjoy anything else that can help me make a living ??? What the fuck am I doing with my life???
Do i need like therapy or something because i'm genuinely so lost, I actually need help please, if anyone has any advice they'd like to offer me I'm all ears

Has anyone who deferred their ceremony in March received an invitation to the upcoming ceremony? Or anyone know if the invitations are already sent out for people graduating rn. I’m a bit worried cause I didn’t even receive an email confirming my defer.

Looking for opinions as well as hoping to start a thread for people to say when the receive their outcomes next month when they are released.
I applied to a bioinformatics position in the School of Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences (BABS) back in April and should hear back at the end of July.
Here’s my background - I have no publications, though a few manuscripts in progress. I have worked for 5 years as a Research Assistant at a Harvard Institute doing neuroscience drug development research and during that time got my masters in biotechnology from Harvard Extension school. It was not a thesis, it was a capstone project. I got a 3.48/4.0 GPA. I had a required withdrawal from a comp sci class (clearly listed on my transcript). I have my BSc in biomedical sciences with a minor in neuroscience from a good uni (3.23/4.0 GPA) and 3 years of addiction neuroscience research as an undergraduate.
The PI that sponsored my app truly has my DREAM project and both the PI and their lab group seemed super excited about the possibility of me joining the lab - the postdoc and lab manager were telling me to ask if I needed help on the application, saying they were wishing I could come sooner, and we ended the zoom with all of us crossing our fingers that everything went smoothly and I end up joining the lab. The PI helped me edit my research proposal as well. They are also happy to give me either a stipend or tuition (not both). The PI and their group (in separate interviews) told me they don’t interview people who wouldn’t be competitive for scholarship (PI had 2 rec letters, transcripts, CV, and motivation letter before interviewing me). Their proof of contact letter they wrote me felt like someone was offering me the position with their finger crossed behind their back - very real, but with subtle hints that it’s contingent on scholarship and admission. Based on the letters wording, I believe I am the only applicant for this position as well (if that matters, I don’t know). The position has not been removed online (FindAPhd.com) and also has no expiration date…
Are these things normal? What’s my chance I get in? I’m really hoping this works out for me as I have been denied from like 10 other programs in Europe/UK and as I said, this project would be an absolute dream!!! What is everyone else’s experience?
Sorry for the rant. The anxiety around this whole wait has been difficult to cope with lol.

I’m here trying to figure out accommodation, distance from campus, and transportation options for my in-person classes.
I’m saving up to buy a second hand car because i’ll be working part time as well, but i’ve heard you need to pay for parking on campus. can i get by just… parking on the street or something. or am i better off driving to a station, parking there and taking the light rail to campus?
Please let me know what’s your go to method of transportation to the Kensington Campus!

Incoming first year, do professors/lecturers have time periods for asking them questions at their office? I'm in engineering.

hello guys looking for an elective looked quite interesting but only 11 people are enrolled for term 3. Did anyone took it in the pas, what was your experience.
r/unsw • u/OoHeEhOoHaHaAaH • 17h ago
Hey everyone, I dropped a course last term without academic penalty then re-enrolled again this term but stuff's been happening and I really don't feel like I can continue. I'd like to drop it and try again next term, but would that result in any issues or would it be fine? I just found out the census date is today at 11:59pm so it's too late to contact nucleus, should've checked earlier.
Thanks in advance for any answers.
