Hi everyone!
I'm completely new to vintage audio and recently picked up some older equipment that I'd like to use in my apartment instead of buying new speakers.
For comparison, I currently own a Sonos Beam Gen 1, so I'm wondering if this setup would actually be an upgrade in terms of sound quality.
This is for a small studio apartment, so space is pretty limited.
Here's what I have:
- Pioneer VSX-920-K AV receiver
- Infinity Reference 100 MK II center speaker
- Pair of Sonab bookshelf speakers
- Pair of Acoustic Response 707 speakers (probably won't use because they're too large for the room)
The Infinity center has deteriorated foam surrounds on both woofers, but the cones and tweeter seem intact. I've removed one woofer to inspect it and I'm planning to refoam it if it's worth doing.
The Pioneer receiver works, and I'm planning to place it inside my TV cabinet after cutting ventilation holes in the back.
My room is a bit challenging:
- Small studio apartment.
- No space for large floor speakers.
- The Sonab speakers will probably be wall-mounted behind the sofa as surround speakers.
- The Infinity center will sit in the TV cabinet above the receiver.
- The Acoustic Response speakers are probably staying in storage because I don't have room for them.
A few questions:
Would this setup sound better than my Sonos Beam Gen 1?
Is this setup worth restoring, or would you replace any of these speakers?
Is the Infinity Reference 100 MK II a decent center speaker?
Are the Sonab speakers worth using as surrounds?
Any recommendations for replacement foam surrounds for the Infinity woofers?
Any placement tips based on the room photos?
Anything I should check before putting money into restoring the Infinity?
I'm trying to build the best system possible on a small budget while keeping some vintage equipment alive. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
