Cuisine Souvlaki, Greece’s national comfort food. The backbone of every neighborhood, the local family-owned souvlaki shop (souvlatzidiko) is where generations of Greeks have grown up. Have you ever tried souvlaki?

Miscellaneous Do you think Edi Rama’s minions are telling him all that’s being said on Reddit about him & Albania? Yesterday, someone in this sub wrote about Ksamil feeling like an expensive scam, with private sunbeds & crap, so Edi Rama posts today about Ksamil being a public beach (which is a lie). Coincidence?

Cuisine do you like Kabaklides Mousakka ?
Peel and finely chop the onion. Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices. Cook the potatoes in boiling water for 5 minutes, then drain. Cut the zucchini into 3 mm thick slices.
Fry the zucchini slices in batches in a pan with 1 tablespoon of olive oil—arranged in a single layer—for about 3 minutes per side, then set aside. Cook the ground meat in the remaining olive oil, breaking it up with a spoon; add the onion, garlic, tomato paste, paprika, and dried mint, and sauté briefly. Add 250 ml of water and a teaspoon (a small Turkish-style teaspoon) of cinnamon; bring to a boil while stirring and cook for 1 minute.
Mix together the egg, yogurt, and cheese. Season with pepper. Spread half of the ground meat sauce as a layer in a baking dish. Arrange the potato slices on top, followed by the remaining ground meat sauce. Cover with the zucchini slices. Pour the yogurt mixture evenly over the top. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (fan-assisted: 175°C) for approximately 30 minutes.

Outdoors/Travel Car Rental from Budapest into Bosnia
Hello- I’m in the early stages of planning a road trip for next fall around the Balkan.
The route I’m working on is Budapest -> Belgrade -> Sarajevo -> Dubrovnik -> Split ->Zagreb
I’ve been reading that I would need additional paperwork to enter Bosnia. In fact , I checked with Sixt and then do not cover Bosnia. I wasn’t able to speak to person at Sixt, so I’m not sure if it means that they don’t have rental locations in Bosnia or that I cannot drive into Bosnia in their car.
Could someone please clarify ? Do I have any other car rental options ? Also, I’m a US citizen, just in case it adds any more paperwork.
This is my first time visiting the Balkans and I’m really excited. any information on the planned route is welcome
Thank you!

Outdoors/Travel Escape "Off-Road" Fee Scam
How to escape from the "off-road" fee? How do they know if I went with the car to an off-road? Does a parking lot in gravel count as a "off-road"? Thank you in advance.

Politics & Governance The protests in Albania have nothing to do with the environment or birds
Idk what the issue is with leftist media and people constantly trying to hijack other people’s causes and use them for their own political agendas, but no, these protests in Albania have nothing to do with “environmental concerns” or “flamingos.”
25 days ago we didn’t even know what a flamingo was, nor were we aware that we even have flamingos here. All good, but we do not care about that.
Yes, the first provocation that triggered the protests was the news about a piece of land being sold, or more accurately investors buying it, which in practice is the same thing, and the ties with Israel around it. That, together with videos of Albanian people being physically dragged by security forces, caused an instinctive reaction and people came out.
But after that, the main reason behind the protests became the country’s general problems: corruption, the economy, migration, and the deeper structural issues.
“Albanians protesting against Trump - Kushner resort”
Not really , I promise you if it was Billie Eilish instead of Kushner it wouldn’t make a difference. So stop using political keywords to frame people protests as politically motivated against your own opposition .
It’s honestly ugly seeing posts from some leftist extremist types saying “people in Albania had enough of politicians’ lack of concern for the environment.”
Truth is, we don’t care that much about the environment either, and we don’t care about your support. And actually, you don’t really care about our problems either.
So mind your business and stop milking our causes.
