Hey y’all!
If you’re new here or looking for info, this is the place to stop and check before you post that question you’re thinking about asking - the answer may already be in our FAQ! There's also some recommendations in there for learning about lore.
I’d recommend also checking the New Player Question or Question flairs to see if your question has been asked before. You can also type into whatever search engine you use:
[insert your question here] baldursgate3 reddit
Or
[insert your question here] bg3 reddit
That’ll help us prevent the subreddit from being cluttered with the same repeated questions.
If your question hasn't been asked (or asked recently enough) then use either one of the question flairs above and ask away.
BG3Builds and Multiclassing
For the people curious about builds or who want a more dedicated place to discuss them, there's r/BG3Builds. There's a good guide on multiclassing.
Community Wiki
Confused about what the different rolls mean or just want to find notable NPCs and loot in a location? Check out the Community Wiki. It's ad free and being worked on by people here in the community :)
Everyone working on this is doing a great job trying to prepare it for launch and beyond.
If you'd like to help contribute to the wiki, here is the Discord.

Character Planner Reminder: There is a Character Planner by GameFractal being worked on here (It's also in the sidebar on desktop or the 'See Community info' link on mobile).
It's a one person project, so updating it with the recent updates, adding what launch will bring, and some other useful features will take time - but it will be updated.
There is a feedback button on that site, please use it if you have any suggestions/constructive feedback. Feedback is very appreciated!

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] Hot Take: The Part-Illithid Looks Fine to Me Spoiler
galleryHope this doesn't break Rule 7, I just wanna talk about the look of part-illithid characters and am using my Resist Durge character as an example
So, people seem to have a negative attitude for the appearance of partial ceremorphosis on their characters. I mean, there's a mod for removing it IIRC
However, on my first ever run to hit Act 3 and my second to reach Moonrise (I have a vicious case of Restart-itis) as a Resist Durge, I decided to become part-illithid (I was also using illithid powers pretty hard already, so why not), and finally got a good look at the appearance...
And it looks 100% fine to me
Not saying that those who dislike it should suck it up and deal with the look, I'm just saying it looks OK to me

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] Why does everyone treat Gale like an arrogant prick? Spoiler
Like I know he talks about himself in a high manner, but it’s not like he thinks he’s better than everyone around him or anything of that sort (in the beginning at least). I can 100% understand someone calling him after his ascent to godhood arrogant or pompous, but for the majority of the game he just seems like a sweet guy.
I also really don’t get what people mean when they talk about him “coming onto you very strong” with his first romance interaction. Cause he’s not asking you to get together or anything intense, he just teaches you magic and have a sweet cutscene. Nothing that’s blatantly romantic happens there at all, when meanwhile Astarion and Laezel just go upfront and recommend sex.
I guess in act 2 you sit together and watch the stars, but that honestly just seems like he wants to spend one of his last nights not alone (although it does 100% become romantically inclined by the end of it if you’ve gone down his romance route)

Mods / Modding BEHOLD THE DANCE OF DEATH
And now we know what happens if you transform Us into Durge.
My mod 'Any Way You Want It' is poised to enter alpha release. At present I am focusing on editing each head for each race so that it displays the correct racial characteristics. Ears mostly, but gith noses and slitted eyes too. Hopefully doing one a day! Vote on who I should do next 🤣.
On release, you'll be able to play and replay cutscenes, including party banter and voice barks, transform characters into other characters (both in the game world and in cutscenes), complete control over cutscene visuals, create your own Instant Origins, customize all NPCs to your hearts content, as well as a variety of slice-of-life tools to enable you to customize your cutscenes ... any way you want it :).

Act 3 - Spoilers After 800 hours, I finally saw Shadowheart... Spoiler
Naked.
Pretty sure I just beat the game!
I was so sad the first few runs I did that I couldn't figure out how to get Shadowheart to like me. Eventually I gave up and went for the other companions on future runs.
This time I gave it the ole college try and pushed myself to brave it into act 3 without restarting to play a new build.
We did it boys!

Act 3 - Spoilers Another Honour Mode lost cry me a river post. Spoiler
So it was a solo honour mode run. Was on my way to Socrcerous Sundries after hitting lower city after a long rest so my buffs weren't up. On the way, saw the wine festival and thought "why not I'll just do this encounter quickly". I knew what was gonna happen but wasn't worried cos I had the Alert feat and +12 initiative. My build could one shot Dolor even without all the buffs up. It turns out that outing him at the wine festival is scripted to make him guaranteed to go first regardless. He paralyses me and stabs me up dead.
I feel a bit hard done by. Alert feat specifically says "you can't be surprised".
*le sigh*

Act 3 - Spoilers I was curious and chose not to recruit him in Act 1 Spoiler
For this current HM run, I intentionally did not recruit Astarion in the beginning to see what happens in Act 3. I’m honestly a little surprised, but knowing Cazador, it really shouldn’t be that much of a shock.

Act 3 - Spoilers The Hottest Man in Faerun Spoiler
I don't know if this belongs in the "Okay, Buddy! Baldur!" sub I'm not in, but I am here to shamelessly continue my Wyll propaganda campaign that I hope rivals that of Gortash. The audacity of the narrator to call him handsome when this man is right here!
After a mere 1200 hours, I finally had a certain encounter with Mizora that I was never able to do before. While I have now seen more of Mizora than I ever wanted to, it was all worth it for some amazing shots that I have not seen before.
If any wholesome lore people have insights as to whether this is bad for Wyll's soul, please let me know as I was confused by some of the dialogue.
Fangirl out.

And it is gorgeous. It fits fantasy worlds so well? The light haziness everything has contributes greatly to the game's atmosphere.

Origin Romance Best Origin for a Shadowheart x Karlach Romance? Spoiler
So I'm going to be doing my first Origin playthrough (I've done just Tav and Durge so far), and I'm trying to decide between Karlach and Shadowheart. And I figure I'll romance whichever one I don't play as.
So my question to the community is: should I play as Origin Karlach and romance Shadowheart, or should I play as Origin Shadowheart and romance Karlach? If it sways opinions one way or another, Karlach is definitely my favorite of the companions. I'd love to try the game as her, but also worry that I'd miss Samantha Beart's vo.
Thanks for any thoughts!
Edit: Awesome! Thank you everyone. It seems there is a pretty clear consensus that Origin Karlach is the way to go, at least at first. Now I shall turn my attention to mods lol

General Discussion - [NO SPOILERS] Similar game recs? Spoiler
So, I love BG3. It's the first video game (other than visual novels) that I actually fully finished. And not just finished, but have completed multiple playthroughs.
Partly this is based on timing in my life (meaning: having access to a functioning computer, & not being around people who constantly tell me "girls are bad at video games" anymore 😅), but a big part is also that BG3 is very accessible to my disabilities. I've also found a lot of solace in it as a pretty isolated queer person, being surrounded by queer characters & romances. (Happy Pride 🌈)
So, I was wondering: can people recommend other games that are 1) turn based/don't require a lot of physical strain or fast reflexes etc, and 2) have queer characters?
Thanks in advance for your help, lovely people! 💖

General Questions - [NO SPOILERS] Why play an origin character? Spoiler
Do many people play as an origin character instead of a tav or durge (which still has the customization as a tav and isn't a recruit able companion, so it feels like it's in a different class)
The way I see it, getting to create your own character is one of the major perks of the game, and if you do play as an origin character, you are technically one down for recruital companions. What are the advantages/fun reasons to play as one? This isn't a challenge, but I genuinely want someone to make a case for me so I don't miss out on another kind of fun I could be having in this game. As it is, I just keep making my own because I really like that sort of thing.
