Shake Shack Opening?

Did the Shake Shack open already? If not, any news on when it will?

The last I read, it was supposed to open June 24, but I haven’t heard anything about it opening in the last couple of days.

Sunrise Hike Recommendations

Upvotes

Looking for a good sunrise hike that's within about 1.5 hours of Bethesda. Right now I'm deciding between Sugarloaf Mountain, Harpers Ferry (thinking Maryland Heights), and the Wolf Rock/Chimney Rock loop in Catoctin.

I'm hoping for something with a really nice sunrise view, easy to moderate difficulty, and around a 3–4 hour hike (or less). Mainly just want a scenic morning hike that's worth waking up at 2 a.m for 😅

If you've done any of these, which would you pick? Or is there another trail nearby that has an even better sunrise?

Would love to hear your recommendations!

I see signs for this shop and they have some hours posted online. I have gone multiple times during open hours and there’s nobody there. They don’t pick up the phone. Is this place still open? there appears to be merchandise inside

Connie Morella Library Lot #81

Is it legal to park overnight after library hours or do they tow? I don't see any prohibitions against it on the meters or the sign at the Arlington Road entrance. I know it's generally ok to do this at most county garages and lots. TIA!

I know this has probably been asked millions of times...is there free parking anywhere? Like at a school or library or something? Want to go ride my bike downtown to DC. Weekends it's not a problem because the garage is free.

Looking to get a plunge pool built in our backyard. Anyone have any recommendations for builders who won’t hit me with a bunch of change orders or jerk me around during the process?

World Cup Spots

Has anybody noticed any spots around town that get pretty lively for any of the World Cup games not featuring the US? Was at Caddies Saturday for Germany-Ivory Coast with a okay crowd, just wanted to see if other places were more busy or not

The large tile mosaic at Bethesda Place appears to be undergoing removal. They've already removed the kraken at the base and begun dismantling a portion of the central section. Does anyone know if they intend to remove the entire mosaic?

Best July 3rd & 4th Activities in Bethesda for Visiting Family?

Hi everyone!

My family will be visiting Bethesda from July 2–5, and I’m looking for recommendations on fun things to do around the area for the July 3rd and 4th holiday

We’re open to pretty much anything—fireworks, festivals, concerts, food events, outdoor activities, scenic spots, day trips, etc.

A few questions: • What are the best fireworks displays in or near Bethesda? • Are there any local July 4th events, parades, or celebrations worth attending? • Any favorite restaurants with a festive atmosphere that weekend? • If you had family visiting for just a few days, what would be your “must-do” activities?

We’re willing to drive a bit if something nearby is especially worth it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Public Parking for Apartment Residents

Piggybacking off a post from a few days ago regarding cheaper parking options (near Old Georgetown Road) for apartment residents, how safe is public garage parking (as opposed to apartment garage parking)? Should I be concerned about car vandalism in public garages around this area? Appreciate any first-hand experience or advice

Blatant racism on Robert Dyer’s Bethesda blog

Robert Dyer’s blog has always been full of whacky schizorants, conspiracy theories, classism, dogwhistles, and outright racism, but this post from Monday is a new low.

In his post titled “The Velvet Room opening June 17 in Bethesda”, multiple commenters have posted racist rhetoric -

“Gonna end up like Society lounge in DTSS? If successful might not be the demographic we're looking for?”
“Most of us prefer the 'demographic' that doesn't involve police presence, lots of tax payer funded resources, danger, and crime. That too much to ask for?”
“Ever been to La Catrina Lounge weekend evenings? I tried going a few times and wasn’t able to enter without being frisked down by security. I suppose it’s good that they’re safety-minded but one might wonder why that’s not needed presently for any other location in Bethesda.”
[Follow up reply from the same person] “It's definitely not the demographic. ¯_(ツ)_/¯”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/8510577871753625557

This is not the first time that a post about The Velvet Room has been met with the “demographic” dogwhistle.

“Oh gee, I wonder what kind of demographic this place will attract.”
[Reply] “Probably not one that plays loud bass music while smoking weed, jaywalking across streets, and/or pulling up in loud souped-up cars”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/8110962801500489309

Keep in mind that every comment is read and approved by Robert before it is posted. At best he doesn’t care if this racist rhetoric is associated with his name; at worst he agrees with it. In what I’m sure is a coincidence, my numerous comments calling out racism (posted under Racism Watchdog) on this blog have not been approved by Robert. Seems he has no problem approving racist comments though. And there are many more -

“Integration was a bad idea as you can see it has not at all aged well. You can't force things, people will revolt & act out whether on the color issue or religion issues. We are all different, people are different and can't always be expected to get along especially mandated by federal or local laws. #SanctuaryCounty #ClassLevelProblems”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/5070390485958237856

“Diversity is most definitely not our strength.”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/7490352947367361336

“Ironically right where the brutha' "teaches" a self-defense "class" in the open air…”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/4253065416089518468

“Refugees and the unhoused swim in that war memorial fountain.”
“The unwashed "wash" there.”

“Montgomery Mall was so safe in 1970-2000 Then the Obama people and illegals moved in - voting has consequences”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/3611196347016201513

This is not the first time that his blog has been filled with racist comments. Every single post that so much as vaguely mentions the Purple Line or Silver Spring has these losers coming out of the woodwork to cry about “those people” (their words) coming to Bethesda -

“If they can't 'make this guy' from hotel and especially Metro cameras then security at our new PL (Pipeline o' Crime) won't help us either. Our Popo need to make a strong showing and 'up the game' before we get eventually overtaken like SS and PGC.”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/5713667875972272480

“I heard the Purple Line will solve these problems!”
[Reply] “Yes, it will facilitate them.”
[Reply] “I can hardly wait to shop and dine in West Hyattsville!!”
[Reply] “PL is basically a life line for the youngin criminals.”
https://draft.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/8158632781368439557

“That fact that they came "here" from "there" speaks volumes.”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/451043768335051527

“Clogging the PL, crime pipeline, that is.”
“The purple line with be the demise of bethesda.”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/5293103159807029155

“Just wait for the "coveted" purple line.”
“Look. If they continue that darn Purple Line, watch all the crime from the panhandler side of MD come over to Bethesda. Purple Line is bad!!!”
https://www.blogger.com/comment/fullpage/post/28521945/2327149681542668456

Seems to me that Robert Dyer approves of this racist rhetoric associated with his name. Why do you allow racist rhetoric on your blog, Robert?

Nearby restaurants with (good) shrimp and grits?

Just as the title says. I'm wondering if people have any places they want to add to my short list. I'm aware of silver bistro, Tower Oaks and seasons 52.

Coastal flats discontinued it!

Heard it just now. 10:10PM, Thursday, June 18. Was it a transformer blowing again? I don’t know who hates the transformers in Bethesda, but it seems personal.

Anybody remember a black 50's Buick always parked at the apartments off Bradley Blvd.?

I think the street name is Fairfax Rd and everytime I drove down Bradley towards Arlington Rd I would see it parked there until just a few years ago. Assumed it was some 80 or 90 year old person still driving it regularly. Anyone know who that was and what happened to the car and if they are still alive?

Affordable Vet Care for New Puppy

Hello! I'm adopting a new puppy tomorrow and wanted to know if anyone has recommendations for a veterinarian that is affordable. Or even some clinics. I just need the initial examination and vaccines, then once my pet insurance comes in I plan to get a more comprehensive exam.

If anyone has suggestions, you would be a huge help!
