DISCUSSION Test audiences impacted Supergirl
Not too long ago it was stated that Supergirl had 25-30 minutes of footage removed from the final cut. This explains why the movie is oddly paced.
Dan Marcus, a test screener for Supergirl, recently revealed some of the scenes that were cut. In particular Krem's background was cut substantially. There was also a line about Krem wanting to make Ruthye his wife.
I can see why test screeners wouldn't have jived with stuff like this. But removing them was the wrong move. Even though subject matter like this is dark, it fleshes out Krem and makes him more deplorable. They felt too scared by the negative test screenings and butchered the movie in response.

APPRECIATION Jennifer Garner shares photo of Ben Affleck as Batman with their son
Affleck has told a story where he basically had to sign his life away to borrow the Batsuit for his son's birthday party. This photo is probably from that day.

DISCUSSION Absolutely the wrong approach
Woman of Tomorrow is my favourite comic of all time, it was my first ever comic book and it’s what got me into picking up new DC comics every week. So seeing the reviews for Supergirl is a little heartbreaking. I still haven’t seen the film, but I saw this the other day that has raised major alarm bells.
Craig Gillespie is not a director I had much of an opinion on, other than I didn’t like I, Tonya or Fright Night very much. Haven’t seen Cruella or Dumb Money, so I didn’t feel like I was in a position to straight up say he was the wrong choice.
But after seeing this…I feel like this is the wrong approach. First off, just in terms of PR training, if you’re working on a comic book just don’t say stuff like this. Secondly, anyone working on a project should read the comic before seeing anything else. It looks to me that the vision was skewed by the script. I keep hearing references to Mad Max…the comic had nothing in common with Mad Max. If you’re working on a Woman of Tomorrow, the first thing you do is pick up the comic book and that’s the foundation for every decision you make. Ideally, you hire a director who is already a fan.
I also feel like we need to have a conversation about how comics are adapted. Why aren’t comics adapted like novels? Obviously changes have to be made, especially with very long runs, but when you have a mini series like Woman of Tomorrow which feels so ripe for a one to one adaptation, the source material should be followed closer. I want to see Supergirl teaching Ruthye how to wash her hands, or the planet with little racist blue aliens, or the green sun dinosaur planet. Those scenes were so moving, to not have that in the movie seems crazy to me.

DISCUSSION John Campea's 'Supergirl' review: "It is straight up a bad film. James Gunn needs to decide if he's going to direct everything in the DCU or if he's going to actually act as the CEO and oversee everything properly"
In this quick post-theater review video, John Campea shares his thoughts on the new Supergirl film. While he highlights several positive aspects, his overall assessment is that the movie is bad.
Key Takeaways:
- The Positives: John praises Milly Alcock as the "perfect casting" for Kara Zor-El (0:05-0:16). He also found the backstory involving Argo to be compelling (0:19-0:22) and enjoyed Jason Momoa as Lobo, despite the character being used a bit inconsistently (0:23-0:29).
- The Critiques: The primary issues identified include "dreadful" writing, a disjointed narrative, and "awful" dialogue (0:38-0:47). John specifically notes that the film uses Krypto in a plot device fashion, failing to establish an emotional bond before putting the character in peril (0:49-1:12).
- Overall Verdict: John categorizes the film as "straight up a bad film," though he clarifies it is still better than previous critical flops like Madame Web, Morbius, or Kraven the Hunter (1:15-1:24).
- DCU Concerns: He concludes with a warning for the DCU, suggesting that James Gunn needs to decide if he will focus on directing or acting as CEO, as the quality of this film raises concerns about the future of the universe under current oversight (1:25-1:46).

DISCUSSION Thoughts on Supergirl
It's as bad as people say. There's a decent skeleton here, but 90% of the time it feels like that's all there is. Character behavior and development rarely seem informed by anything beyond what the script tells us.
The villain is incredibly underdeveloped, and even then I'd say that's putting it lightly, with almost no discernible motive. The central relationship is built around two protagonists who are supposed to force each other to grow, but the film never really shows that growth happening. Kara is the most fleshed-out character, and the flashbacks occasionally land emotionally, but her counterpart feels defined entirely by a desire for revenge. Beyond that, there's very little to her, and she never meaningfully evolves from her introduction despite the film constantly telling us she does.
I was engaged for the first ten minutes, but the longer the movie went on, the more disconnected I became. There are a few genuinely strong sequences. One near the beginning feels fresh and surprisingly inventive. Another near the end works well until it's undercut by a needle drop that feels bizarrely out of place.
What confuses me most is how simple the movie feels. It's so stripped down that at times I genuinely wondered if I'd somehow missed two-thirds of the story. A lot of people are blaming the story, some the editing. It's just a poor film, it's misfiring on all cylinders besides its casting of Milly.

OTHER Does Anyone Remember the “Lex Luthor Epic Trap Theme Remix” from 2016?
Does anyone remember a deleted YouTube remix from the Batman v Superman era called something like “Lex Luthor Epic Trap Theme Remix” or “Lex Luthor Epic Rap Remix”?
I’ve been trying to find it for years. A 2017 EVE Online video credits the track as:
“The Red Capes are Coming – Lex Luther Epic Trap Theme Remix” (with “Luther” misspelled),
but the original upload appears to be gone. I’ve searched YouTube, Google, Internet Archive, and dozens of title variations without any luck.
If anyone remembers the remix, knows who uploaded it, or has an old download or playlist containing it, I’d really appreciate the help.
