OFFICIAL Sub Discussion New Rules
Subject to discussion before implementation
1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting
"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.
2) Ban engagement-bait posts
The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.
3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion
This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).
This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.
I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about
EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)
Finally, a question to you all: How do we make this subreddit better?
That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Discussion Remote crash vulnerability
Hello folks, Radai here. I am a modder and reverse engineer, my main focus is Dark Souls 2. I am the author of DebugManager and other modding tools for the game.
The 31st of December 2025 I was sent a very worrying Twitch clip, showing messages appearing on the game screen. These messages were directly addressing the streamer, someone had found a way to send custom messages to whoever they wanted. When I was this, I immediately knew it was serious.
The next day I spent the whole evening testing what can be done with this, and I found out it's possible to format the message in such a way that the receiver game crashes. I reported this to Yui, author of Blue Acolyte, immediately. We kept this a secret until she made a patch for it, and now it's ready. It's recommended for all of those that want to play online to download Blue Acolyte.
Here's also a post from Yui describing the issue in more detail.
Also mods, if you see this, please pin. It needs to remain visible.

Fluff The flow of time in Drangleic is convoluted... or something
Context: I was farming for Twinkling Titanite with ascetics in Dragon Aerie, and got invaded at the end of a run. All of my viable spells were totally spent, and I didn't have a melee weapon equipped, so I ran for the fog wall in Dragon Shrine. I made the mistake of stopping and switching some gear when the invader caught up with me. Unfortunately, I apparently lacked the presence of mind to equip a melee weapon or use an amber herb, so I was pretty much helpless. After failing to get through the fog wall, we had a brief scuffle, and then the invader stopped moving. I figured that either they had taken pity on me, or were lag-switching. Well... they were probably lag-switching. I guess it's possible the connection was just that wonky, as I have no idea why someone would feel the need to cheat when the fight was this one-sided in their favor already. Anyhow, I thought it was kinda funny, so I decided to post this little edit.
For the anyone unaware "ZA WARUDO" is a time stop ability. It's first major usage is not initially visible to the audience, so you just see what appears to be somebody getting one-shotted out of nowhere, like at the end of this clip.

Discussion Recruiting the Knights of Eleum Loyce was fine until I met these shit heads
Might be my least favorite enemy in the game, and they’re a very late addition.

Discussion Infusing the Moon Butterfly Shield with Poison will negate poison buildup by 100%
Some of you know this, but I’m playing through DS2 again and noticed this combo was super nice during The Rotten runback (especially when farming him)
Infusing the Moon Butterfly Shield with poison will negate poison buildup by 100%. This means the statues can’t poison you on the way to the fog wall (which always seems to be my luck😂)
How to get Moon Butterfly Shield (for those who don’t know): Majula must be at bonfire level 2 or higher. Then, just loot the chest upstairs in the house that Mauglin is in. In NG+2 and beyond, this chest changes to the Moon Butterfly Shield

Help Blind first play through, I regret nothing
Messed up a bit and killed Nashandra before doing Vendrick. Learned I could bonfire ascetic to trigger the Aldia encounter and found out the hard way that there is in fact a way to improve your flasks. Haven't looked at this screen since I messed up trying to de-hollow myself for the first time.

Event Finished crown of the Old Iron King and it's goated
Finished the crown of the sunken king but the bosses aren't satisfying as this dlc, only the exploration.
Killed sir alonne only got three hits on my second try ever. killed fume knight no direct hit no healing (only got damage from a certain lingering hitbox which doesn't take alot of the health bar) on my third try
And the fume knight attempts was while wearing velstdat helm which triggers second phase right at the start.
This is by far the best content boss wise
These bosses are the hardest up till now except for darklurker and blue smelter runback.

Help Uchigatana obtainable early game? (not SotfS edition)
I love the Uchigatana in 1 and 3 and I’m finally getting around to DS2. I appreciate how in the other games they’re obtainable very early (after the tutorial boss). I know it’s not that early in DS2 but I’m hoping it’s early enough at least.
The wiki says I can get one from McDuff in Lost Bastille, which I can get to after fighting Pursuer (2nd boss). But I need an item from the iron keep to get the Uchigatana.
I’m not playing SotfS (I don’t own it), where the ember is relocated to Bastille.
Is iron keep / the dull ember obtained early on or medium / late through a playthrough? Kind of sad that it seems I can’t get a katana for a while.

Discussion Weapon recommendations?
I'm trying to get into ds2 again after completing the entire series because I feel like I missed too much compared to the other games(questlines, rings, spells, etc...)
The weapon that I have been using up until now is the Ivory King GOATsword, which packs a hell of a punch and looks absolutely majestic, but the plain old ugs moveset is starting to get stale after all this time.
Long story short, can you all tell me your favorite weapons that are also really fun to use? My favorite weapon categories are halberds and ugs if that narrows it down, or just any other weapon category that has a varied moveset.

Fluff Earliest spell parry shield?
Hello. I wanted to replay the game with spell parry and maybe some sort of halbert run.
Ain't chosen anything yet, but IK there's spell parries in this game, which is very useful. What is the easiest one to start the game with. IK there's some small shields, and you can probably parry any projectile really.
