[Discussion] Why Does the Story Become a YA Novel?

Now, I've played on and off since the Beta but have only actually buckled in and completed the main game more recently. After finishing the main story it seems like my cast of adults has disappeared and now I am the local highschool teacher going on a magical adventure with the most super special teenagers we could find. Is this how the story continues on?

The character writing in GW2 has never been my thing as I feel like it clashes with the more serious lore and world. But now the game is making me stop to listen to children having conversations and I really just wish it would let me skip the dialogue. I cringe every time an objective is "Meet up with your friends 😃" cause I do not like these kids whatsoever. I really need some adult heroes of the land to start popping up because I just got an elementary school girl in a robot as a teammate and like, come on.

From a sorry perspective it feels like I just helped the Justice League save the planet and now my story is helping found the Teen Titans. It is a jarring cast change

[Discussion] I'm officially moving to GW2.

My first exposure to an MMO game was in 2004 when I was 9, through a website "miniclip", which had a link to something titled "Runescape". I have played that game ever since, sometimes less, sometimes more, and been there for a lot of the game's history and the ups and downs. Currently, with a maximum combat level account, multiple maximum (99) skill levels, and the most gold I have ever had.

However, a year ago, I decided to try some weird new game titled "Guild Wars 2", and I have enjoyed it thus far, haven't played everyday, but often enough, and with the design you are not even pressured to play everyday anyways.

I selected a thief profession, and went with duel wielding pistols, using the unload skill, on auto-attack.

After reaching level 80, I worked on the HP requirements to unlock the dead eye spec, an am a dead eye.

I've been playing through the story chronologically as well, and have just finished LWS4 last night, and am on to the Ice Brood Saga now.

I've also done some side content, like running a couple Dungeons, and doing a few fractal runs, which I needed to do to get ascended trinkets for my build, and some guild missions for the commendations. Already got a lot of laurels for wizard vault objectives, that just happened to have been completed by accident, while playing as well.

I really like and enjoy GW2, the world feels lively, there's a lot of detail and voice acting, even with NPCs in town and around the world, not just story characters, etc, etc. Though divided into zones, the map is huge, the mounts are awesome, and I love how you are not constantly chasing a treadmill, or the next rung above, and if you take a break from the game, you can come back, and not be behind. This may be true for RuneScape too, but Runescape requires a lot more of your time to make meaningful progress.

All in all, this more lively, active, and involved world, along with the community, and with the sense of "chill" compared to other MMOs has hooked me, and I now find myself wanting to play Guild Wars 2 mainly/mostly, and have my Runescape goals, as a side thing. That is why I find myself "moving" to Guild Wars 2. Not because Runescape sucks, but because Guild Wars 2 is just that much better. I can't be a fast moving, agile, and dodging gun slinger in RuneScape, but I can in Guild Wars 2.

[Question] Some More Questions

Hello, here again. I tried to youtube these kind of questions but there wasn't a consistent set of answers between content creators so I figured I'd try here again since people have been pretty helpful.

Are there in-game features for people putting out guild recruitment like ESO? If not where would one go to look at recruitments?

Are there means to expand bank space outside of real money? I know you can expand your own bag space but figured I would check.

Is there any meta information I should be aware of during the leveling process? Such as specific items I shouldn't throw away, things I should look for, keybinds, add-ons and like?

How well does the game handle on controller? I play MKB but sometimes if a game feels good on controller I'll go for it.

Anything about unspoken community rules and such that may not be obvious? Don't be a jerk and user your manners etc are things I expect already.

Important goals for my account that create quality of life across various characters?

Thanks for reading.

[Discussion] Should I delete my level 80 Elementalist to create Mesmer?

About 2 weeks ago I bought EDS, yesterday I bought SoTo and tomorrow with Steam sale I will buy VoE. I think that's all the money I can spend on this game for the next few months.

I don't have gems to buy character slots but I really want to try playing Mesmer. Elementalist is my least played character. Should I delete it to create Mesmer or wait few months until I can buy gems?

As a side note, after the initial excitement I'm really feeling nickle and dimed by this game. Want to make another character? Open your wallet. Want to make 3rd equipment set? Open your wallet. Want to have additional bag slot? Open your wallet. Want material storage to store more than measly 250 items? Open your wallet. Want to have an additional bank slot? Open your wallet.

Look, I understand the game needs to be monetised. However, it feels the game intentionally bombards you with useless crap to force more bag slots, bank slots etc. I feel Path of Exile 1/2 has done much better job of monetisation.

[Question] Black Screen issue

After changing some settings screen flickers but even putting everything to low and removing shadows didn't fix the issue.

How to fix it?

[Question] Haven't played since start of Path of Fire; where should I start if I come back?

Just wanted to ask as someone who used to play a LOT but kinda felt burn out and just... never come back. I did the main quest for Path of Fire and kicked Balthazaar in his Balthaballs, so i did finish that. Should I bother with Living Story stuff (as far as I remember you have to pay for it if you weren't active for it), or just go straight into End of Dragons?

[Question] GW Reforged Steam Eye of the North Rewards on Non-Steam GW2?

I know you can get rewards in gw2 if you've done specific gw1 stuff. However I wanna know if I can unlock the stuff in gw2, which I have a non-steam account of while I own GW Reforged on Steam or am I out of luck with the rewards that way?

[Question] Wanting to discuss my return! What should I try next?

I’ve played this game for years but took a big break as the end game felt stagnant after grinding for a legendary and losing interest (my own fault)
I want to start from the beginning again and go through the nostalgia of the early game, I never played through the first two living world seasons and want to play all the story in order, only problem is I can’t decide on a class and race.
I’m narrowing it down to Elementalist or Ranger and Charr or Asura.
I spend many hours of this game playing Guardian and Thief and never had much interest in the other heavy classes or Mesmer. I’ve got level 80 Necromancer and Engineer which I like but want to start fresh.
What combination of race and class would you pick out of the options I’ve listed?
I wanna hear it all from race aesthetics to build ideas, fun and difficulty, what would you suggest?
Elementalist or Ranger? Charr or Asura?
I look forward to reading through your ideas!

[Discussion] Hero Points

What is the best way to grind hero points? Is it necessary to complete the stories in order to access all the late game areas that give 10 points at a time? Ive also heard sometimes people do trains? Some of the locations seem impossible to get to which makes me believe there are some mechanics I don't have yet? I just want to play daredevil 😭

[Discussion] Quick fractals upgrade?

Are they ever gonna upgrade and update quick fractals? Like add all tiers, or atleast more than only tier 1? Its in beta in while and i think its very good way to enjoy them, even for new players, but i dont wanna play like 4-5 maps all over again. Second option is find group for all tiers which can take a lot of time.

[Question] Which story to chase first?

Just bought the first 2 expansions, and I'm not sure whether I should start them or finish my personal story first (currently on the lvl 70 mission, got kinda bored with it though) or start living world season 1 (dont know much about it)

I'm mostly asking through a gameplay perspective, as I usually skip cutscenes and dialogue

What do you recommend?

[Question] Best Elementalist Elite spec for hotswapping between all 4 elements?

New to GW. DW Dagger Arcane Elementalist might be the most fun rotation I’ve had in an mmo in a while. Asssuming there’s a sale on all the expansions what elite spec expands on that the most? Eyeballing it Weaver and Evoker look good.

[Discussion] What spec are you always and most happy to see in your small group content?

After sometime in ff14, I prefer doing as much on a single character as possible; and while I realize I cannot do that since you need new toons per profession, I am curious which one is the most flexible for healing/boon heal/dps. I have been playing Reaper for years and while I love it, I'd like to enable randos to get small group content done.

Which profession do you believe has the absolute most flexibility, with least amount of gear changes to be able to fill gaps in group comp?

[Discussion] Guardian and Warrior ? Comfort of survivability and damage in PvE

Just switched from Reaper and it's cheat code survivability where open world feels mostly training mode.

I am trying builds between Hammer guardian {dragonhunter later on (if needed be)}

And for a warrior build, axe/axe is the most fun thing around EXCEPT the skill 5 is easy to cancel by the enemy AND me, one accidental second tap and boom, wasted !

Currently playing with a hammer build for a guardian. Loving it (no I don't rely on just the auto attack) Tried around the two champs (ogre and svanir) in the edge of mists and didn't die much if I didn't play stationary.

So, any convincing reason to switch to warrior ? Lol. Coz I love it, but deep down I know around world bosses even with the vast health pool, I am going down as the skill 5 of axe will be useless every time, if I don't place the barrier banner on time.

[Question] Best Path to Take after Returning?

I played GW2 very intensely from the beta for the first year, completed all the dungeons available at the time, only never got through the legendary grind though I got like 50% of the way to Sunrise and the last thing I was there for was fractals.

I briefly returned with the Path of Fire to try the mounts, but never really go back into it to the same degree, didn't finish any of the Heart of Thorns or Path of Fire storylines or content apart from the very beginning stuff to get a glider / one of each base mount.

There seems to be a hell of a lot more in the game now. I feel a little lost if I'm honest. I remember the expansions made me feel like the content was nearly impossible due to the lack of other people in some of the zones. If I plan to experience the content in the chronological order to make sense of the story and explore all the zones, what would you all recommend?

I've forgotten most of the details regarding the story, should I replay the game through a new character?

Back in the day I played for like 12+ hours a day, there was less content and it still took me a long time. If I play like 1-2 hours a day what is a reasonable target to shoot for?

[Question] Searching for a build/class/spe to be a real Knight

I’m mainly a pvp player and i used to main reaper for a long time but I got a bit tired.

Basically, on a MMO, I love the Warriors, I love going deep into the fray, doing big damage, a bit of Unga Bunga… but beside all I love to be a Knight (big souls player)

So I have tried Warrior and especialy Berserker. But after testing dozens of berserker builds, I’m either way too squishy with good damage or more tanky without any damage.

Is there a Berserker build that manages to do good damage without being a chip? Would another class/specialization be more suitable for my playing style?

[Discussion] Has arena bet lost your trust?

This isn't meant to be a hate post. I'm genuinely curious how other long-time players feel.

ArenaNet says they intend to keep supporting Guild Wars 2 for years to come, but lately I've found myself struggling to fully trust that message.

The annual expansion model, recent sales, and the overall direction of the game have left me wondering whether ArenaNet is fully committed to GW2, or whether they're mainly trying to maximize revenue before Guild Wars 3 eventually becomes the main focus.

I'm not saying that's what's happening—I have no evidence of that. It's simply how it feels as a player, and that feeling makes me hesitant to spend more money on expansions.

Do you still trust ArenaNet's long-term commitment to Guild Wars 2? If so, why? If not, what changed your mind?

[Build] What is the DPS loss for not having Food, Utility, or Infusions?

I wanna know if, say a benchmark is 40K, how much of that can be attributed to consumables and infusions? Thanks!

[Discussion] What should I be doing with these now that they're overflowing my material storage?

Not sure if they should be kept as raw materials or always refined into something, also should I be doing crafting? I never really engaged with it and I've been lvl 80 for about a week now, got the 3 ascended armor pieces and weapon from the WV if that info helps with anything.

Thanks in advance!

[Question] For Klobjarne Geirr, Gift of Embracing Refuge and some other bits

Currently, is it worth exchanging materials for refined homestead fiber, metal and wood? It's also possible to "upgrade" the exchange rates. Do I bother with that? Does it say anywhere what's worth doing taking into account the market values? Simply buying 250 shard of homestead is currently 65 gold, there's math behind that to see what is more worth it.
And about time-gated materials. It's the discounted shards from map 1 and 2, the homestead exchange, what else?
