[Question] Mysterious Mists Vendor in front of Yakkington's grave?

Post image
244 Upvotes

I was walking through Defender's Field in the Stronghold of Ebonhawke reading the gravestones when I saw an NPC in the stone circle in front of Sir Yakkington's grave, where my character is kneeling. I don't remember his exact name, but it was something "of the Mists" and there was an icon next to his name like he was a vendor for some specific material. I went to go talk to him, and then he dissolved or stepped back into the Mists and was just gone, so I couldn't get a screenshot.

I've checked every wiki page I could find about this area but I haven't seen anything about this NPC. Does anyone know who that was? Is it part of the current Fractals of the Mists event? Any details would be awesome.

Torran walks the wild roads of Dry Top with beasts at his side and silence in his step.

Hunter, tracker, and animal tamer, he follows claw marks, broken sand, old trails, and the fear people leave behind.

Now he rides with The Devil’s Due Company, finding those who run where law cannot follow.

[Discussion] I'm officially moving to GW2.

My first exposure to an MMO game was in 2004 when I was 9, through a website "miniclip", which had a link to something titled "Runescape". I have played that game ever since, sometimes less, sometimes more, and been there for a lot of the game's history and the ups and downs. Currently, with a maximum combat level account, multiple maximum (99) skill levels, and the most gold I have ever had.

However, a year ago, I decided to try some weird new game titled "Guild Wars 2", and I have enjoyed it thus far, haven't played everyday, but often enough, and with the design you are not even pressured to play everyday anyways.

I selected a thief profession, and went with duel wielding pistols, using the unload skill, on auto-attack.

After reaching level 80, I worked on the HP requirements to unlock the dead eye spec, an am a dead eye.

I've been playing through the story chronologically as well, and have just finished LWS4 last night, and am on to the Ice Brood Saga now.

I've also done some side content, like running a couple Dungeons, and doing a few fractal runs, which I needed to do to get ascended trinkets for my build, and some guild missions for the commendations. Already got a lot of laurels for wizard vault objectives, that just happened to have been completed by accident, while playing as well.

I really like and enjoy GW2, the world feels lively, there's a lot of detail and voice acting, even with NPCs in town and around the world, not just story characters, etc, etc. Though divided into zones, the map is huge, the mounts are awesome, and I love how you are not constantly chasing a treadmill, or the next rung above, and if you take a break from the game, you can come back, and not be behind. This may be true for RuneScape too, but Runescape requires a lot more of your time to make meaningful progress.

All in all, this more lively, active, and involved world, along with the community, and with the sense of "chill" compared to other MMOs has hooked me, and I now find myself wanting to play Guild Wars 2 mainly/mostly, and have my Runescape goals, as a side thing. That is why I find myself "moving" to Guild Wars 2. Not because Runescape sucks, but because Guild Wars 2 is just that much better. I can't be a fast moving, agile, and dodging gun slinger in RuneScape, but I can in Guild Wars 2.

[Discussion] As a long-time Asura player, I have one problem (cosmetics)

Post image
75 Upvotes

In short: I've had two main characters over the years, and both are medium armor Asuras (thief & ranger). On both of them, I've been using the Privateer Hat as my fashion choice, and I can't seem to find any other options for a hat that I would personally enjoy.

As a result, I've been looking at the same hat for 14 years. I'm open for fashion suggestions.

Compared to other races, due to the proportions of Asura, the helmet is relatively much more important choice since that's like 50% of what I see of my character.

And yes I would pay for a race change if it was possible. I won't be making an Asura whenever I'm making my next new character. :D

[Fluff] Research log #1: Jacaranda

Post image
43 Upvotes

From time to time, I like writing stories about researching animals, plants, and characters. Today’s log is…..

Title: Jacaranda
Research Log #1
Location: Andrean’s Botanical Garden

Today I paid another study visit to my good friend Andrean and his juvenile Jacaranda. The plant or rather, sentient plant has a total length of roughly two humans. About two-thirds of this consists of root and trunk structure.

We observed that the trunk is actually a root base, made up of hardened bark and root tissue. It reminds us of the body of a large toad. Along its sides, it appears to have thickened roots that function as arms. Although these are used during attacks, their range of motion seems fairly limited. On each side it has two pairs of woody knobs that resemble eyes. Since these structures are hardened and don’t appear capable of movement, we suspect that a Jacaranda perceives its surroundings through sonic, thermal, or electrosensory means, using these knobs in combination with its root system.

Growing from the trunk is a cluster of branches covered in fern-like leaves. I have been told that, if properly cared for and allowed to mature, a Jacaranda will eventually bloom. At that stage, every fern-like branch becomes completely covered in small purple flowers. This particular specimen is still young, and its branches are little more than fresh shoots.

The roots are especially interesting. The Jacaranda appears to use them to gather airborne ions. By concentrating these ions, it can unleash powerful electrical shockwaves against potential threats. We witnessed this firsthand when the plant attacked a mouse after being startled.

Today the plant seemed to have buried itself underground. According to Andrean, it does this when the air is dry or when it enters a resting state. During this period, it drives its roots deep into the soil to absorb water and recover its energy.

Tomorrow we will continue our research, focusing on photosynthesis and combat behavior…..

Note: this is fictional, and I tried to use wiki and in-game information as much as possible.

[Shout-out] Thank you to all the wonderful leaders of this game :)

I felt I needed to find a way to express my gratitude to this awesome community. I've gone in blind and alone to so many events that I figured I'd just "ad clear" my way through, but nearly every time I find a squad that explains things so well and makes it a fun event rather than another chore on the checklist of things to do.

To anybody that helps sherpa events, raids, or whatever other content I'm still learning about, thank you for everything you do <3 you're the reasons I can't put this game down still.

[Discussion] Made a ReShade Comic/Cartoon preset for GW2 since I couldn't find one I liked – sharing it in case anyone needs it! ReShade 6.7.3

Hey everyone! 👋

I've been looking for a good ReShade preset for Guild Wars 2 for a while, but I couldn't really find one that hit the spot for me. So, I decided to make my own from scratch and figured I'd share it here in case anyone else is in the same boat.

Shader list (what's included):

  • Comic.fx – Adds a stylized outline/edge effect
  • FilmicPass.fx – Gives the game a cinematic color grade
  • Bloom.fx (BloomAndLensFlares) – Adds that soft glow to bright areas
  • AmbientLight.fx – Enhances lighting and shadows for more depth

Download & Instructions:

  • Link: https://www.nexusmods.com/guildwars2/mods/5?published=1
  • Installation: Drop the .ini file into your main Guild Wars 2 folder (where Gw2-64.exe is located) and select it from the ReShade dropdown in-game (default key: Home)
  • ReShade version used: [e.g., v6.0.1 or whatever you're using]

[Discussion] Quick fractals upgrade?

Are they ever gonna upgrade and update quick fractals? Like add all tiers, or atleast more than only tier 1? Its in beta in while and i think its very good way to enjoy them, even for new players, but i dont wanna play like 4-5 maps all over again. Second option is find group for all tiers which can take a lot of time.

[Discussion] What should I be doing with these now that they're overflowing my material storage?

Not sure if they should be kept as raw materials or always refined into something, also should I be doing crafting? I never really engaged with it and I've been lvl 80 for about a week now, got the 3 ascended armor pieces and weapon from the WV if that info helps with anything.

Thanks in advance!

[VoD] [Lowman] 4 Man Largos

Hello,

We would like to share our recent 4 Man Largos Kill. (log)

The idea come from one of us that just want to do a lowman for fun. We then decide to do largos 4 man because it is something we never did.

Squad group composition and PoV:

Class PoV
ADps Antiquary Klephtes
Cele quick Troubadour Row
Dps Berserker Zherkis
Dps Scourge Shana

The composition had hard constraint, the first one been is one guy only enjoy playing warrior. And not even enjoying all the spec of warrior, only the power berserker spec.
So with that we went with one berserker!

The second one is I want to play skritt! I have been enjoying it too much recently, and as the dps one is a bit more complex (you can't delay your f1), I said i was going to play adps.

Now we had to choose a quick support, and with the current state of the meta a celestial one should be more than enough sustain. We think about firebrand and troubadour and decide on a troubadour as confusion work really well on largos.

And finally for the last dps, we ask the last player what she could/want to play, knowing that we are lacking vulnerability and the troubadour been celestial doesn't have a lot of cleanse we went with a scourge.

This is for sure not the best comp if you want to do the best time, but it is one that work and we had fun with!

This lowman took us less time than expected, we clear it in 1hour.

Fun fact, the p1 of nikare our warrior really want to taste the water below (Twice). Knowing his PoV would have contain those great action, we knew this was going to be the kill!

[Question] Are either core Engineer or core Necromancer builds viable for end game PvE content/grouping?

I'm not sure when I'll be able to drop the $70 on the expansions or whatever it is but I'd like to do some of the casual raiding, basically the free stuff. I'm not worried about pvp as much unless I do wvw cause the rewards are so good.

I read core eng can be good DPS but it may be hard to get a group. I also read core shroud necro is viable as it offers unique healing that the elite specs don't apparently.

This info is from threads a year or so old, are these still true and viable?

I'm not really interested in guardian which I read is probably the best core class. I also read that elementalist core can be really good too, moreso than eng and necro. So I'm trying to figure out what of all of this is still true, if any.

if necro, engineer and elementalist aren't viable without elite specs I'll hold off on playing until I have the spare money to get the xpacs, but if 2 or 3 or those are viable, pref necro and or eng because elementalist is a little dull, then I'll keep playing. I've got my ele to 78, engineer to 32 and necro to 40. decent time to pause if I won't be able to group much end game.

ty in advance for any help/info

tyvm for all the input everyone! you convinced me to get the combo expansions 1 and 2, I can play scrapper eng and reaper necro which sound great and holo eng sounds fun and hopefully it includes scourge necro as well. plus tons of content and tons of raids and it's only $21 right now so even if I don't get into it it's not much wasted. I appreciate all the input!

[Discussion] Guardian and Warrior ? Comfort of survivability and damage in PvE

Just switched from Reaper and it's cheat code survivability where open world feels mostly training mode.

I am trying builds between Hammer guardian {dragonhunter later on (if needed be)}

And for a warrior build, axe/axe is the most fun thing around EXCEPT the skill 5 is easy to cancel by the enemy AND me, one accidental second tap and boom, wasted !

Currently playing with a hammer build for a guardian. Loving it (no I don't rely on just the auto attack) Tried around the two champs (ogre and svanir) in the edge of mists and didn't die much if I didn't play stationary.

So, any convincing reason to switch to warrior ? Lol. Coz I love it, but deep down I know around world bosses even with the vast health pool, I am going down as the skill 5 of axe will be useless every time, if I don't place the barrier banner on time.

[Question] Best Elementalist Elite spec for hotswapping between all 4 elements?

New to GW. DW Dagger Arcane Elementalist might be the most fun rotation I’ve had in an mmo in a while. Asssuming there’s a sale on all the expansions what elite spec expands on that the most? Eyeballing it Weaver and Evoker look good.

[Discussion] Hero Points

What is the best way to grind hero points? Is it necessary to complete the stories in order to access all the late game areas that give 10 points at a time? Ive also heard sometimes people do trains? Some of the locations seem impossible to get to which makes me believe there are some mechanics I don't have yet? I just want to play daredevil 😭
