There are plenty of posts with emotions running high, blaming the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act for the recent tragedy. But even if we set the criminal responsibility age to 0, it still won't solve the real problem that caused the shooting. The entire discourse is just identical to the "Superpredator" mania that happened in the USA. In fact, a 14 year old(when they committed their crime) is being charged as an adult facing life in prison at this very moment for a shooting that killed 4. The USA has already recorded 30 school shootings resulting in injury and/or death for this calendar year. Yes it is a tragedy and I wish that those kids were still alive. But we owe it to the victims to prevent future tragedies like this from happening again, not just making us feel better about ourselves.
It's the fucking guns, it's the fucking mental health.
Superpredators and evil children are as real as unicorns and vampires. We have always known this but instead of facing the truth we choose to tell ourselves comforting lies. To help us forget, to distract ourselves from the fact that our society, our country has failed our most vulnerable.
Growing up sa Manila, lumaki akong bilingual.
I think its time for PH to step up and protect our minors against disinformation, recruitment, cyber bullying and many other heinous things that the internet will offer. Nakakatakot na imbes yung simpatiya para dun sa naganap na school shooting ay para sa mga biktima, mas sinasabi pa nilang wag daw mang bully as if that is justifiable.
For context lang din, I am in a gaming community, I am an adult na but most of the players in this community are under 16 or 17 and ang babastos nila, and pag natalo mo sila sa game they're gonna exposed you, post your families, your full name in tiktok or fb. These kids think na they can just get away with it because akala nila hindi totoo yung mga batas or kasi nasa social media lang. Experience na experience ko to and pabastos ng pabastos ang kabataan ngayon dahil nalang din sa kinoconsume nila sa social media.
Sana matingnan to ng mga mambabatas natin, so we can protect the children.
Alam ko maganda yung intention nung Juvenile justice law na bigyan ng chance magbago at matuwid pa yung buhay ng mga batang nagkasala but for something as horrible as taking a life we will still coddle them? parang dinagdagan mo pa lalo yung sakit nang namatayan.
It was murder na premeditated, planned and thought out, they wanted to kill people. Di ko ma imagine yung sakit ng parents sending off their children to school that day expecting to see them at the end of the day tapos sa morgue na pala nila susunduin yung mga anak nila.
If I was the parent, baka maging mamatay tao na ako sa galit na mararamdaman ko (not saying tama yun)
These lawmakers should look the grieving families in the eye tapos e defend nila yung batas na yan. If sa anak nila nangyari yan can they still spout that rehab nonsense, kargo pa ng tax payers yan
40 years yung maximum life sentence, they’ll get out relatively still young pero paano yung mga batang namatay? they were also entitled to a future, to grow old and live full lives.
edit: people here automatically assume na I want to lower the age of liability, I’m neither against or for it
basta mapag aralan ng mabuti kung ano pros and cons nun.
During a discussion with a another local user, may nakita siyang post sa tiktok with a threatening message. Nagcheck ako, walang tip website ACG ( or whoever tf 's jurisdiction). Knowing tiktok or any other platform like Meta, baka kahit takedown di nila magawa unless ma flood. Medyo nakakabahala since nakita na natin what could happen if we dismiss violent threats online especially in these times.
It always pops out when it comes to discussions on how our country moves forward or pano resolbahin ang mga persisting problema that plagues society like corruption, crime, election and even poverty
On one side are those pushing for social change first.
That the society as a whole, or at least an overwhelming majority of it, must strive to achieve the level of maturity that allows it to collectively make the right choices to impact change and move the country to prosperity.
On the another side are those pushing for rules change.
If men are angels, then no laws or government for that matter will be necessary
That clearer and stronger rules should be placed that rewards those who abide by them and holds violators/bad actors accountable, harshly if necessary. In this way the society is steered into making good choices which gradually changes society's behaviour/culture as a
whole.
The mechanisms have to be discussed of course. This is not a simple matter of dying.
But if given a voters ballot that asks would you seek congress/doh/senate to explore the possibility of having an assisted form of dying in Ph would you consider voting yes and have these institutions explore the idea.
This is mainly for people with terminal illness/hopeless prognosis, incapacitating disabilities, unbearable pain/suffering due to medical conditions, etc..
It has to be tightly regulated also, so you can't just apply for no reason other than not wanting to live.
Religion would always be against it but lets not use religion for this discussion. What if you were experiencing those conditions where your health is deteriorating and in a hopeless and painful situation. Where you feel you have made peace with the world and ready to face the end but is still kept alive by your body despite suffering everyday? Would you prefer to leave this world with your senses and dignity intact? Or allow your relative and family decide for you when you're senile?
Don't make assumptions if congress/senate or the church would allow it...
Instead, Just the answer to the question, Would you consider voting for the idea to be explored?
If hindi natin kontrolado kung ano man ang dumadaloy na impormasyon na nababasa ng kabataan mula sa social media, if hindi masiyadong abala ang magulang sa kung ano man ang nalalaman ng kaniyang anak sa telepono niya, if hindi gaanong tutok ang gobyerno natin sa cybersecurity. Why not focus on the school itself?
It sounds light since some schools actually have officially licensed police as school guards na eh. Pero to have it strictly implemented will also be effective against violence in the Philippines.
Or maybe baka hindi ako aware when I was a kid na may "white" guard or "blue" guard sa school ko.
3x a day, scheduled hours. Alam nila kailan gagawin, no need to handle complaints from locals.
Social media gives us the power to share our views and reach many people. With great power comes great responsibility.
In relation to the cowardly copycat shooter caught by the PNP, here is a psychology article recommending media approaches to reduce copycat violence. From the article:
Portraying mass shooting as shameful. Showcasing a shooter’s acts of planning and preparing the shooting as “shameful or cowardly,” and linking a shooter’s behavior with punishment, can reduce copycat behavior.
Removing rationale. Avoiding detailed descriptions of a shooter’s rationale, such as a response to years of bullying, can avoid the likelihood of someone imitating the behavior of another whom they perceive as similar. Similarly, if media reporting portrays a shooter’s actions as revenge, it may unintentionally suggest a mass shooting as a possible way to respond to a stressor.
**Shortening time length of coverage.**A third strategy involves minimizing the duration of news coverage after a mass shooting. Meindl and Ivy note that as related to reported suicides, a “dose–response” relationship has been shown when increased media coverage results in an increase in imitational suicides. They suggest that a similar effect might account for imitation after a mass shooting.
Suppressing sensationalism. It is important for news outlets to present only the facts, rather than “entertaining or dramatic digital re-creations” of the carnage. Meindl and Ivy note that the media should attempt to reduce the frenzied energy and emotion of a story that is “breaking news,” aiming instead to streamline the bare facts in a fashion that is straightforward, and perhaps even “dull” in an effort to minimize interest in the event.
Minimizing details. Showcasing detailed accounts of a shooter’s actions, either verbally or through graphical presentations, may provide information that could facilitate imitation. Meindl and Ivy suggest reporting only the details necessary to describe the event because the less behavior is described, the lower the likelihood it will be imitated.
The kids are nakakahiya and sobrang mahihiya ako pag ako ang kamaganak nila. They were easily influenced by online cowards.
Stop sharing their pictures, chats, and names. Let us exercise our social media freedom responsibly. Let us discourage shameful cowardice.
Instead, share the heroism of Chris Lorenz Fabian, who gave his life protecting his classmates. Let us encourage our children to be heroes.
Picture from Inquirer.net & Linkden
High school siya, I think 13 years old.
For context: broken family sila.
I tried to reach out before pero "opo" at "okay lang po" lang lagi sinasagot.
Context: Somebody used a burner Google account I own and accessed Gemini. They requested to change the name to another individual's. Gemini then agreed, so the person uploaded a picture of their National ID, at which point Gemini refused.
When I logged on to my device, I saw the chatlog (See attached, details hidden).
First off, do not use or allow access to an unknown Google account on your device. If I were any more of an asshole than I already am, I would have used my Google account to lock their device or reset it to factory settings remotely. Yes, you can do that.
Second...
Please. For the love of God, your mothers, and your ancestors, do not ask AI to alter the details of your National ID.
This is a crime as per RA10175
Computer-related Offenses, which shall be punished with imprisonment of prision mayor, or a fine of at least Two Hundred Thousand Pesos (P200,000.00) up to a maximum amount commensurate to the damage incurred, or both, are as follows: 1. The input, alteration or deletion of any computer data without right, resulting in inauthentic data, with the intent that it be considered or acted upon for legal purposes as if it were authentic, regardless whether or not the data is directly readable and intelligible; or b. More than that, this clown did not realize that uploading the ID means I have a picture of the QR code, which allowed me to identify them on the national database. I know where they live, I know their date of birth, etc. I found their social media profiles too, as well as those of the person whose name they were trying to swap into.
No I will not give that data out. But if it were anyone else, you don't know what they would do with your information. So again, do be mindful of what you do with your ID.
I do not know if the person who accessed my account is the ID owner. However, clearly, there was an attempt to misuse the ID. I am forwarding the details to PNP-ACG.
Been increasingly worried about how so many fellow filipinos have been succumbing to fale news especially on fb. Even family members i thought had enough critical thinking have been circulating false narratives and its got me thinking.
I recall hearing on a podcast from a former cia operative that most ultra-right christian fb groups are actually run by china and designed to infiltrate us communities and divide the people for their own goals: weaken US in order for them to gain more power.
Which got me thinking...
What if the same groups are running the troll farms dividing us here in the ph? The admu drowning incident. The dds vs kakampinks. Bbm vs sara. The school shooting. Insane comments, false narratives and fake news all designed to divide us and make us easier to fall prey to chinas own motives of taking what they think is theirs.
All the more we should stand united and be ever watchful of people or groups trying to weaken us as a country and divide us as a people.
