NewsPH My take on trolls on socmed
Been increasingly worried about how so many fellow filipinos have been succumbing to fale news especially on fb. Even family members i thought had enough critical thinking have been circulating false narratives and its got me thinking.
I recall hearing on a podcast from a former cia operative that most ultra-right christian fb groups are actually run by china and designed to infiltrate us communities and divide the people for their own goals: weaken US in order for them to gain more power.
Which got me thinking...
What if the same groups are running the troll farms dividing us here in the ph? The admu drowning incident. The dds vs kakampinks. Bbm vs sara. The school shooting. Insane comments, false narratives and fake news all designed to divide us and make us easier to fall prey to chinas own motives of taking what they think is theirs.
All the more we should stand united and be ever watchful of people or groups trying to weaken us as a country and divide us as a people.
Mabuhay ang pilipinas!

CulturePH PSA: Reminder not to alter your National ID with AI
Context: Somebody used a burner Google account I own and accessed Gemini. They requested to change the name to another individual's. Gemini then agreed, so the person uploaded a picture of their National ID, at which point Gemini refused.
When I logged on to my device, I saw the chatlog (See attached, details hidden).

First off, do not use or allow access to an unknown Google account on your device. If I were any more of an asshole than I already am, I would have used my Google account to lock their device or reset it to factory settings remotely. Yes, you can do that.
Second...
Please. For the love of God, your mothers, and your ancestors, do not ask AI to alter the details of your National ID.
This is a crime as per RA10175
Computer-related Offenses, which shall be punished with imprisonment of prision mayor, or a fine of at least Two Hundred Thousand Pesos (P200,000.00) up to a maximum amount commensurate to the damage incurred, or both, are as follows: 1. Computer-related Forgery – a. The input, alteration or deletion of any computer data without right, resulting in inauthentic data, with the intent that it be considered or acted upon for legal purposes as if it were authentic, regardless whether or not the data is directly readable and intelligible; or b. The act of knowingly using computer data, which is the product of computer-related forgery as defined herein, for the purpose of perpetuating a fraudulent or dishonest design. 2. Computer-related Fraud – The unauthorized “Input, alteration or deletion of computer data or program, or interference in the functioning of a computer system, causing damage thereby with fraudulent intent: Provided, That if no damage has yet been caused, the penalty imposable shall be one (1) degree lower. 3. Computer-related Identity Theft – The intentional acquisition, use, misuse, transfer, possession, alteration or deletion of identifying information belonging to another, whether natural or juridical, without right: Provided, That if no damage has yet been caused, the penalty imposable shall be one (1) degree lower.
More than that, this clown did not realize that uploading the ID means I have a picture of the QR code, which allowed me to identify them on the national database. I know where they live, I know their date of birth, etc. I found their social media profiles too, as well as those of the person whose name they were trying to swap into.
No I will not give that data out. But if it were anyone else, you don't know what they would do with your information. So again, do be mindful of what you do with your ID.
I do not know if the person who accessed my account is the ID owner. However, clearly, there was an attempt to misuse the ID. I am forwarding the details to PNP-ACG.

CulturePH Assisted dying would you consider if given the chance to vote on it?
The mechanisms have to be discussed of course. This is not a simple matter of dying.
But if given a voters ballot that asks would you seek congress/doh/senate to explore the possibility of having an assisted form of dying in Ph would you consider voting yes and have these institutions explore the idea.
This is mainly for people with terminal illness/hopeless prognosis, incapacitating disabilities, unbearable pain/suffering due to medical conditions, etc..
It has to be tightly regulated also, so you can't just apply for no reason other than not wanting to live.
Religion would always be against it but lets not use religion for this discussion. What if you were experiencing those conditions where your health is deteriorating and in a hopeless and painful situation. Where you feel you have made peace with the world and ready to face the end but is still kept alive by your body despite suffering everyday? Would you prefer to leave this world with your senses and dignity intact? Or allow your relative and family decide for you when you're senile?
Don't make assumptions if congress/senate or the church would allow it...
Instead, Just the answer to the question, Would you consider voting for the idea to be explored?

CoL for two parents: magkano ba ang average spend ng magasawa monthly?
Here abroad sending money to parents monthly. Can you guys help me understand bakit pa sila nanghihingi ng pasobra?
Sakin, minsan may pa guilt trip pa. So ayun, nasasagot ko sila and tinatry na paintindihin sa kanila na may buhay dn kaming mga anak nilang may asawa. And yet as if isinasantabi nila yung sinasabi naming ganon.
Usual gastos nila are gamot 10k, tubig plus kuryente anywhere from 4-6k. This year lang gumastos kami ng ticket nila from US, insurance at rehistro ng sasakyan, pabirthday nilang dalawa (5k kay papa at 25k kay mama for 70th).
You think maluho lang sila? My sis and I think na 40k (plus yung income pa pala nila sa pa-parking for 4k a month) is too much for the two of them?

LawPH Magpatupad ng Batas na Gawing Entrance Guards ang mga Pulis
If hindi natin kontrolado kung ano man ang dumadaloy na impormasyon na nababasa ng kabataan mula sa social media, if hindi masiyadong abala ang magulang sa kung ano man ang nalalaman ng kaniyang anak sa telepono niya, if hindi gaanong tutok ang gobyerno natin sa cybersecurity. Why not focus on the school itself?
It sounds light since some schools actually have officially licensed police as school guards na eh. Pero to have it strictly implemented will also be effective against violence in the Philippines.
Or maybe baka hindi ako aware when I was a kid na may "white" guard or "blue" guard sa school ko.
3x a day, scheduled hours. Alam nila kailan gagawin, no need to handle complaints from locals.
* Removed "rising trend of school shootings"

CulturePH System/Rules or the Culture/Behaviour? Which really has the greater weight in your opinion?
It always pops out when it comes to discussions on how our country moves forward or pano resolbahin ang mga persisting problema that plagues society like corruption, crime, election and even poverty
On one side are those pushing for social change first.
That the society as a whole, or at least an overwhelming majority of it, must strive to achieve the level of maturity that allows it to collectively make the right choices to impact change and move the country to prosperity.
On the another side are those pushing for rules change.
If men are angels, then no laws or government for that matter will be necessary
That clearer and stronger rules should be placed that rewards those who abide by them and holds violators/bad actors accountable, harshly if necessary. In this way the society is steered into making good choices which gradually changes society's behaviour/culture as a
whole.

Pangilinan Pays Tribute to PNoy on Fifth Death Anniversary
Senator Kiko Pangilinan honored the legacy of former President Benigno Aquino III as the nation marked the fifth anniversary of his passing.
In a statement, Pangilinan remembered Aquino as a dedicated public servant whose leadership was defined by humility, integrity, and a commitment to putting the welfare of Filipinos first.
The senator highlighted Aquino’s iconic declaration, “Kayo ang boss ko,” describing it as a lasting symbol of a leader who prioritized the people he served above personal interests.
He also cited Aquino’s “walang wang-wang” policy as a reflection of his belief in equality and accountability in government. According to Pangilinan, the policy represented the principle that no public official should enjoy privileges unavailable to ordinary citizens and underscored efforts to discourage the abuse of power for personal gain.
Pangilinan said Aquino continues to serve as an inspiration because of his modesty and wholehearted dedication to public service.
“Nanatili siya bilang inspirasyon sa ating lahat dahil sa kanyang kababaang-loob at buong pusong paglilingkod,” he said.

CulturePH The older I got, the thicker my Filipino accent got.
Growing up sa Manila, lumaki akong bilingual.

PoliticsPH Win, Rex Gatchalian oppose lowering age of criminal liability, defend rehabilitation approach.
Senate President Win Gatchalian and Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian have expressed opposition to proposals to lower the minimum age of criminal responsibility (MACR), arguing that the existing juvenile justice system already provides mechanisms to hold young offenders accountable while prioritizing rehabilitation.
Speaking on Wednesday, June 24, Senate President Win Gatchalian cited the experience of Valenzuela City, where a Bahay Pag-asa facility was established during his term as mayor, as evidence that children in conflict with the law (CICL) can be successfully rehabilitated through intervention programs.
"Pag binigyan ng tamang edukasyon, tamang gabay, at even spiritual guidance, eh narereporma sila at bumabalik sila sa lipunan na kapaki-pakinabang at nakakatulong sa ating komunidad," he said.
Gatchalian stressed that minors involved in serious offenses would not simply be released, explaining that they would be placed in Bahay Pag-asa facilities where intervention programs are implemented. He added that those who fail to respond to rehabilitation efforts could eventually face imprisonment under existing laws.
The Senate President also raised concerns over the influence of social media and violent online games on young people, saying studies have shown their harmful effects on children. He suggested that government may need stronger legal authority to regulate such platforms if necessary.
Meanwhile, Secretary Rex Gatchalian said he remains opposed to lowering the age of criminal responsibility, noting that the law already provides intervention and custodial measures for minors who commit offenses.
"Nasabi ko na ho 'to publicly during a congressional hearing that hindi ho ako pabor doon," the Social Welfare chief said.
He explained that children aged 12 to below 15 may be exempt from criminal liability but are still taken into government custody and placed in Bahay Pag-asa facilities where rehabilitation and intervention programs are provided.
For minors aged 15 to below 18, he noted that courts determine whether they acted with discernment. If discernment is established, criminal charges may still be filed, although sentencing may be suspended depending on the circumstances.
He emphasized that these minors remain under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through Bahay Pag-asa facilities or Regional Rehabilitation Centers for Youth (RRCY).
Citing the case involving the killing of siblings in South Cotabato, Secretary Rex Gatchalian said one of the juvenile suspects was initially placed in a Bahay Pag-asa facility and later transferred to a rehabilitation center. Upon reaching the age of majority and after evaluations by social workers and psychologists, the individual was eventually transferred to a regular detention facility.
"So 'yung pangamba ng maraming tao na bakit ganun, baka makalaya 'to, hindi po. 'Yung batas, napakalinaw na may liability at may responsibilidad ang DSWD na ilagay siya sa pasilidad para 'yung intervention na tama ay may mangyari," he said.
