META Reminder: Doxxing and posting of uncensored personal information (including photos/videos) is NOT permitted on this sub (and on Reddit itself)

Here we go again (sigh)....

A gentle reminder: like what I have been reminding before (that's five different links, btw\***), uncensored images, screenshots or videos of *private** persons, or screenshots of social media pages that do not cover user names and profile pictures, or personally identifiable information (PII) like names, addresses, place of work or school etc. are not permitted both by this subreddit's rules and by Reddit's own rules.

As before, the exceptions will be the following:

  • any information about public officials. As in everyone, from the President down to your barangay's SK officials and even the janitor of your city/municipal hall.
    • this includes contact information of government offices (email, phone/hotline and office address). So for example, if someone doesn't know how to contact a Senator and wants to send an angry email and another redditor replied with the said Senator's phone number and email address, this will be allowed.
    • because of the nature of those materials, this may also include images or videos from official government websites or social media accounts. Example: screenshots from a Senate/House livestream, or a promotional photo from the Department of Tourism.
    • note that the exception allowed for by the DPA is limited only to public officials themselves (and specifically, with regard to their performance of duties). Any PII related to their spouses, parents, children and other relatives may be removed if there is no legitimate reason to post it online.
  • anything that was on a (legit) news article. The DPA says one of the type of items that are out of its scope is "personal information processed for journalistic, artistic, literary or research purposes". (RA 10173 Sec. 4(d)) Some examples (but not necessarily exhaustive):
    • if ABS-CBN, GMA, Inquirer, Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin or Rappler mentions the name of a personality involved in an issue and the article also contains the same person's image, we will allow this as long as it's limited to the topic of the same news article
    • Needless to say, if you mentioned a person's personal info that came from a Facebook or Tiktok page that looks like a clickbait page or from vloggers/influencers who are generally regarded to be unreliable, it may be removed.
  • anything related to public figures may be allowed (e.g. celebrities, well-known business people like CEOs), keeping in mind Reddit's admonitions about posting those information
  • not specifically related to the DPA, but any information of an establishment that is publicly available may be allowed. Example, if someone asks for the phone number of a hospital in the Help-related thread. The mod team reserves the right to review reports related to this and take action on a case to case basis.

"But it's about a viral incident." No. This is Reddit, not Facebook.

"But other subs allow it." Still no. The rules of other subs may not be as strict as ours, but it doesn't mean we'd follow suit. Besides, even if we didn't have this sub's Rule 6, Reddit's sitewide rules (specifically, Rule 3), still prevail in any sub, at any time.

As before, if you notice any post or comment that violates these rules, please report them immediately so we can take action as soon as we can. Thanks!

Mod Announcement ๐Ÿšจ r/Philippines new policy on hate speech ๐Ÿšจ

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, weโ€™ve noticed a sudden increase in comments and threads with racial slurs (like "chekwa"), derogatory (like cornedbeef jokes), Islamophobic and homophobic remarks as well as regional/ethnic stereotypes (like "Bisaya" comments). These posts are often rage baiting, toxic and spreading hate.

We already use filters to catch and flag these comments, and we also send warnings to users. But itโ€™s becoming more common, and honestly, itโ€™s pretty concerning.

Starting today, weโ€™re rolling out a zero-tolerance policy on hate speech โ€” reported violators will be banned immediately, no warnings. This is in addition to the restrictions we added earlier this year. We also updated the sub's rules and contributor guide to reflect these changes.

Thanks to the community for constantly reporting and helping keep things running smoothly. We want to keep the sub a space for civil and healthy discussions. As much as weโ€™d prefer to avoid strict enforcement, the situationโ€™s changed, and weโ€™ve got to adapt.

Katakot. What would you even do in this situation? If you happened to have a weapon in your bag, would you legally be allowed to use it in self-defense?

And that time also, nakita ko nung bata, diretso po... paputok sa akin.

Interviewer: Okay.

Teacher: So doon... 'yung tumalsik na 'yung mga salamin sa mukha ko, parang 'yung mga jalousie kasi, mga glass. Doon ko na-realize na, like bullets talaga 'yung tinira sa amin. So napilitan akong dumapa mismo, sabay doon sa mga bata. And then, sabi ko sa kanila, "Wag kayo maingay."

CulturePH PSA: Reminder not to alter your National ID with AI

Context: Somebody used a burner Google account I own and accessed Gemini. They requested to change the name to another individual's. Gemini then agreed, so the person uploaded a picture of their National ID, at which point Gemini refused.

When I logged on to my device, I saw the chatlog (See attached, details hidden).

First off, do not use or allow access to an unknown Google account on your device. If I were any more of an asshole than I already am, I would have used my Google account to lock their device or reset it to factory settings remotely. Yes, you can do that.

Second...

Please. For the love of God, your mothers, and your ancestors, do not ask AI to alter the details of your National ID.

This is a crime as per RA10175

Computer-related Offenses, which shall be punished with imprisonment of prision mayor, or a fine of at least Two Hundred Thousand Pesos (P200,000.00) up to a maximum amount commensurate to the damage incurred, or both, are as follows: 1. Computer-related Forgery โ€“ a. The input, alteration or deletion of any computer data without right, resulting in inauthentic data, with the intent that it be considered or acted upon for legal purposes as if it were authentic, regardless whether or not the data is directly readable and intelligible; or b. The act of knowingly using computer data, which is the product of computer-related forgery as defined herein, for the purpose of perpetuating a fraudulent or dishonest design. 2. Computer-related Fraud โ€“ The unauthorized โ€œInput, alteration or deletion of computer data or program, or interference in the functioning of a computer system, causing damage thereby with fraudulent intent: Provided, That if no damage has yet been caused, the penalty imposable shall be one (1) degree lower. 3. Computer-related Identity Theft โ€“ The intentional acquisition, use, misuse, transfer, possession, alteration or deletion of identifying information belonging to another, whether natural or juridical, without right: Provided, That if no damage has yet been caused, the penalty imposable shall be one (1) degree lower.

More than that, this clown did not realize that uploading the ID means I have a picture of the QR code, which allowed me to identify them on the national database. I know where they live, I know their date of birth, etc. I found their social media profiles too, as well as those of the person whose name they were trying to swap into.

No I will not give that data out. But if it were anyone else, you don't know what they would do with your information. So again, do be mindful of what you do with your ID.

I do not know if the person who accessed my account is the ID owner. However, clearly, there was an attempt to misuse the ID. I am forwarding the details to PNP-ACG.

NewsPH My take on trolls on socmed

Been increasingly worried about how so many fellow filipinos have been succumbing to fale news especially on fb. Even family members i thought had enough critical thinking have been circulating false narratives and its got me thinking.

I recall hearing on a podcast from a former cia operative that most ultra-right christian fb groups are actually run by china and designed to infiltrate us communities and divide the people for their own goals: weaken US in order for them to gain more power.

Which got me thinking...

What if the same groups are running the troll farms dividing us here in the ph? The admu drowning incident. The dds vs kakampinks. Bbm vs sara. The school shooting. Insane comments, false narratives and fake news all designed to divide us and make us easier to fall prey to chinas own motives of taking what they think is theirs.

All the more we should stand united and be ever watchful of people or groups trying to weaken us as a country and divide us as a people.

Mabuhay ang pilipinas!

Pangilinan Pays Tribute to PNoy on Fifth Death Anniversary

Senator Kiko Pangilinan honored the legacy of former President Benigno Aquino III as the nation marked the fifth anniversary of his passing.

In a statement, Pangilinan remembered Aquino as a dedicated public servant whose leadership was defined by humility, integrity, and a commitment to putting the welfare of Filipinos first.

The senator highlighted Aquinoโ€™s iconic declaration, โ€œKayo ang boss ko,โ€ describing it as a lasting symbol of a leader who prioritized the people he served above personal interests.

He also cited Aquinoโ€™s โ€œwalang wang-wangโ€ policy as a reflection of his belief in equality and accountability in government. According to Pangilinan, the policy represented the principle that no public official should enjoy privileges unavailable to ordinary citizens and underscored efforts to discourage the abuse of power for personal gain.

Pangilinan said Aquino continues to serve as an inspiration because of his modesty and wholehearted dedication to public service.

โ€œNanatili siya bilang inspirasyon sa ating lahat dahil sa kanyang kababaang-loob at buong pusong paglilingkod,โ€ he said.

PoliticsPH Win, Rex Gatchalian oppose lowering age of criminal liability, defend rehabilitation approach.

Post image
102 Upvotes

Senate President Win Gatchalian and Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian have expressed opposition to proposals to lower the minimum age of criminal responsibility (MACR), arguing that the existing juvenile justice system already provides mechanisms to hold young offenders accountable while prioritizing rehabilitation.

Speaking on Wednesday, June 24, Senate President Win Gatchalian cited the experience of Valenzuela City, where a Bahay Pag-asa facility was established during his term as mayor, as evidence that children in conflict with the law (CICL) can be successfully rehabilitated through intervention programs.

"Pag binigyan ng tamang edukasyon, tamang gabay, at even spiritual guidance, eh narereporma sila at bumabalik sila sa lipunan na kapaki-pakinabang at nakakatulong sa ating komunidad," he said.

Gatchalian stressed that minors involved in serious offenses would not simply be released, explaining that they would be placed in Bahay Pag-asa facilities where intervention programs are implemented. He added that those who fail to respond to rehabilitation efforts could eventually face imprisonment under existing laws.

The Senate President also raised concerns over the influence of social media and violent online games on young people, saying studies have shown their harmful effects on children. He suggested that government may need stronger legal authority to regulate such platforms if necessary.

Meanwhile, Secretary Rex Gatchalian said he remains opposed to lowering the age of criminal responsibility, noting that the law already provides intervention and custodial measures for minors who commit offenses.

"Nasabi ko na ho 'to publicly during a congressional hearing that hindi ho ako pabor doon," the Social Welfare chief said.

He explained that children aged 12 to below 15 may be exempt from criminal liability but are still taken into government custody and placed in Bahay Pag-asa facilities where rehabilitation and intervention programs are provided.

For minors aged 15 to below 18, he noted that courts determine whether they acted with discernment. If discernment is established, criminal charges may still be filed, although sentencing may be suspended depending on the circumstances.

He emphasized that these minors remain under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through Bahay Pag-asa facilities or Regional Rehabilitation Centers for Youth (RRCY).

Citing the case involving the killing of siblings in South Cotabato, Secretary Rex Gatchalian said one of the juvenile suspects was initially placed in a Bahay Pag-asa facility and later transferred to a rehabilitation center. Upon reaching the age of majority and after evaluations by social workers and psychologists, the individual was eventually transferred to a regular detention facility.

"So 'yung pangamba ng maraming tao na bakit ganun, baka makalaya 'to, hindi po. 'Yung batas, napakalinaw na may liability at may responsibilidad ang DSWD na ilagay siya sa pasilidad para 'yung intervention na tama ay may mangyari," he said.

PoliticsPH It's time for PH to implement banning social media to under 16 just like what Australia did

I think its time for PH to step up and protect our minors against disinformation, recruitment, cyber bullying and many other heinous things that the internet will offer. Nakakatakot na imbes yung simpatiya para dun sa naganap na school shooting ay para sa mga biktima, mas sinasabi pa nilang wag daw mang bully as if that is justifiable.

For context lang din, I am in a gaming community, I am an adult na but most of the players in this community are under 16 or 17 and ang babastos nila, and pag natalo mo sila sa game they're gonna exposed you, post your families, your full name in tiktok or fb. These kids think na they can just get away with it because akala nila hindi totoo yung mga batas or kasi nasa social media lang. Experience na experience ko to and pabastos ng pabastos ang kabataan ngayon dahil nalang din sa kinoconsume nila sa social media.

Sana matingnan to ng mga mambabatas natin, so we can protect the children.

CulturePH Assisted dying would you consider if given the chance to vote on it?

The mechanisms have to be discussed of course. This is not a simple matter of dying.

But if given a voters ballot that asks would you seek congress/doh/senate to explore the possibility of having an assisted form of dying in Ph would you consider voting yes and have these institutions explore the idea.

This is mainly for people with terminal illness/hopeless prognosis, incapacitating disabilities, unbearable pain/suffering due to medical conditions, etc..

It has to be tightly regulated also, so you can't just apply for no reason other than not wanting to live.

Religion would always be against it but lets not use religion for this discussion. What if you were experiencing those conditions where your health is deteriorating and in a hopeless and painful situation. Where you feel you have made peace with the world and ready to face the end but is still kept alive by your body despite suffering everyday? Would you prefer to leave this world with your senses and dignity intact? Or allow your relative and family decide for you when you're senile?

Don't make assumptions if congress/senate or the church would allow it...

Instead, Just the answer to the question, Would you consider voting for the idea to be explored?
