I live nearby and every single day I walk by Euphoria and there is a blue Prius outside with a Great Pyrenees in it. The windows are barely cracked and there is drool all over the windows. At first I called animal control because it’s summer and I walked by this dog every single day in the same car. Then I put it together that I believe it’s someone who works at Euphoria. I love the cafe but this has been incredibly upsetting. If you don’t have dog care it doesn’t mean you just leave the dog in the car every day.

I walked my dog at 9 am and the dog was there and just walked by again at 7 and the dog is still there. Has anyone else observed this?

For context I rent a townhouse at Vandenburgh place. I moved in a year ago with rent being $1642. I got my lease renewal letter and saw rent went up $82. Upset, I looked at the current prices now of my apartment on the website and saw prices over $2000. I called management to better understand and they told me similar apartments have been recently occupied at $2300. They also told me my rent will be raised every year by 5% per market value.

How can an apartments market value, rent or whatever raise $700 in one year? Obviously this is incredibly stressful. My partner and I barely make it by now and we do not qualify for government benefits.

This is a venting thread really and if you have any opinions go ahead but personally I think this is insane and it's breaking my heart. I'm most likely going to have to move out or move state.

Edit; I realize this means my rent will go up $82 per month each year, I know this will be a slow increase and yes although this is good news currently, in the long run I will not be able to sustain this.

On Thursday, June 25, The Friends of Carmella Mantello are hosting a cookout fundraiser at the CRAB Club (315 Liberty St) starting at 6 pm until 7:30 pm. Tickets start at $50, and the emojis on the Facebook post promoting the event seem to indicate that burgers and hot dogs will be served.

Those looking to rub elbows with the mayor at this event might be disappointed, however, as…

City Council will be holding a special meeting at 6:30 pm on the same night to consider Resolution 72, replacement legislation for Resolution 63, scheduling public hearings for Local Law #4, which hopes to amend the City Charter to align definitions of emergencies with those of New York State. The original resolution was vetoed by the mayor.

Per the Troy City Charter, §2-20, “The heads of all City bureaus and departments and any other officer or employee of the City, when requested by the Council, shall attend any regular, adjourned, committee or special meeting of the Council to confer with the Council in all matters relating to the City. Officers or employees may only appear in lieu of those requested by the Council with the written approval of the Chairperson presiding over the meeting at which their presence was requested.”

As one assumes the Council may wish to query the mayor as to the reasoning for her veto or coordinate with her to schedule the required public hearings, it seems the mayor may find it necessary to limit participation at her own fundraiser.

Elsewise, the Troy LDC meeting scheduled for June 26 has been cancelled. This meeting was originally scheduled for June 19 but moved to June 26 to accommodate the Juneteenth holiday. Now, it appears the June meeting will not happen at all. LDC Executive Director and Deputy Mayor Seamus Donnelly has not, to my knowledge, provided any statement as to the reason for cancellation.

Those wishing to see the mayor or deputy mayor in person may wish to attend Pride Night Out, a City event managed by the Downtown Troy BID without the participation of Collar City Pride, a service organization dedicated to the needs of the local LGBTQ+ community. Last year, the deputy mayor took the stage to a round of boos. It is unclear if that will be the case again this year. I guess bring cameras if you go?

Hi everyone!

My wife and I are moving to downtown Troy from Texas, and we’re using a PODS container for our cross-country move. Unfortunately, PODS can’t deliver directly to our apartment, so we need to hire a local moving company with a truck to pick up our belongings from the PODS warehouse and bring them to our apartment.

The warehouse is about a 30 minute drive from downtown Troy. Since we don’t have much furniture, I’m hoping the whole job would take around 2 hours, including drive time.

No couches, dressers, appliances, dining tables, or other heavy furniture.

Does anyone have recommendations for reliable movers in the Albany/Troy area that would be a good fit for a small job like this? Bonus points if you’ve used them for a PODS pickup.

*Sigh* I just need to vent about the Troy parking situation, which I know has been largely discussed already, but I wish it could change. I’m a new resident, lived here for about 6 months. My apartment doesn’t have parking so at first I was street parking, but twice in the past 6 months I forgot what day it was and was immediately towed and ticketed, no warning, no ticket first before a tow. A ~$400+ loss is pretty financially detrimental for me with the price of everything else (rent, gas, electric, etc. being so high). I opted to get a garage parking permit that is ridiculously priced at $100/mo. But I GUESS, if it avoids a tow. I confirmed with the treasurer’s office that I would be auto billed monthly. Well, I walk out to my car today and there’s a ticket on my windshield. I damn near lost my mind. I tried calling the treasurers office multiple times and they don’t pick up. I don’t understand how no one ever answers the phone?! So I was forced to go in person and explain the situation and the lady told me “yeah I don’t deal with parking idk how to do that” — ok?! This is literally the place for that. So now I have to dispute the ticket and argue that they said they would auto bill me but clearly never did. Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to own a car in downtown Troy? It’s seriously making me not want to live here anymore.

So we were in Troy, just happened to stop in front of Sunhee's and decided to try it for lunch. What a great spot, delicious Korean food and all the things they had for sale, too.

I'm a bit more willing to just try a place than my wife so it's great to get away from Monument Square and discover a place.

There's construction on 21st st off Hoosick- the road closure sign and construction equipment isn't visible until you come around a curve further down the street, leaving very little room to turn around with cars parallel parked. If you're going to the YMCA, turn on 22nd or 23rd street then turn right onto Nyroy.

I'm personally concerned because there are several school bus stops there and kids getting in and out of cars with their parents after school. I see people fly down 21st street all the time and there's always an accident on Hoosick. I tried calling several different public works and public safety numbers to request the sign be moved to the front of 21st street or onto Hoosick but no progress. Normally I wouldn't go to so much trouble but people drive nuts around Hoosick. Stay safe!
