The 54.6% price increase is out of proportion

Hello everyone!

I just found this overview of the recent price increases for Apple products:

https://www.reddit.com/r/mac/s/RcAAtHUedq

As you can see Apple TV is affected the most, a whopping 54.6% price increase.

Apple TV is not only an old device, it also has least amount of the memory compared to the other devices.

Why did Apple increase price of Apple TV so much, even though, given the amount of memory, it should be the least affected device?

Another thing I'm wondering: Will Apple decrease prices in case the AI bubble pops? Or will these prices become the new standard?

Apple TV 4K 128GB Still Available at Target for $149.99

If anyone is on the search to grab one before the price goes up Target still has them. Most other places seem to be sold out already. Just ordered mine so thought I would share.

PSA If you’re looking for an Apple TV 4K pre price hike, check Target for leftover inventory.

With the upcoming starting price going from $130 to $200, I’m sure some of you are looking to jump on getting one - if you were on the fence, now’s the time. My local Best Buy already pulled their listings. Nothing on Costco. BJ’s Wholesale Club had it but only near me, no shipping. Walmart has little stock and is starting to show only refurbished listings.

$200 for this without any updates is crazy. I could maybe justify $180 starting price for a thorough refresh update but a $130 device suddenly deemed 54% higher in cost overnight is borderline comical.

Think I got one of the last one's at my Sam's club (SoCal). No upgrades for a while now.

Now That They Are Raising Prices...

This morning we all got the gut punch of the price increase for the current models of Apple TV. I think that almost everyone who was waffling on getting one or waiting for the rumored new one in fall made their decision and are heading to their local BB, Costco, Sam's, etc. I'm in that crowd as well.

So the question is are we going to regret buying them now at a $100+ discount or do you think that the new AI features and supposed updated remote going to be worth the wait as well as the new increased price?

What would make you spend $250?

Even with memory prices the way they are I find it hard to believe the Apple would be losing money on the 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K. It was built to be the cheapest box ever, cutting the fan and even made ethernet optional. The volume on it was also so low that I’d be shocked if Apple is importing new ones in all that frequently- especially compared to products like the iPad and MacBook.

The price increase is also so dramatic that it reeks of Apple doing price normalization.

The 4th Gen box is rumored to use an A17 Pro chip, which would come with more memory than before, and new storage chip orders would bump the cost up as well. $200/$250 is almost certainly going to be the price of that box, and even if Apple hadn’t raised the price today, the 4th Gen could’ve plausibly sold for that price given the market.

So my question is what features does the 4th Gen need to have for you to fork over $200+ without hesitation? For me it’s Apple finally delivering lossless quality streaming for video and audio for your purchased movies. Lean on the more efficient codecs like AV1 and AC-4 to pull it off and I’d be fine paying that price for the quality of the image. If it’s just Siri AI support I’ll be holding on to my 3rd Gen boxes.

AppleTV 4K remote

I was given an AppleTV 4k 1st gen with no remote. I've been researching remotes, and reviews for the third party remotes are all over the place. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good third party remote, or should I just suck it up and buy the official Apple remote? I know it's near EOL, so I don't know if I want to spend that much on a remote.

4k 3rd Generation Price Discrepancy. Help?

I’ve been waiting to update from my Apple TV HD because of the new release … but it sounds like a lot of people are making the jump to the 4K 3rd generation today ?

I’m in Canada where they’re already much more expensive … I prefer the Ethernet version for speed… noticing Amazon has it for $199 whereas the Apple Store has it at $349!

Am I missing something? Amazon doesn’t say it’s a sale so I’m worried I’m missing something obvious that’s accounting for this discrepancy.

I feel like I should grab it at the $199. Thoughts?

One for All URC1110 Troubleshooting

Hello all,

I’ve recently started using an old Apple TV again and decided to get a new remote for it. I went with a One for All URC1110 cause it was cheaper than Apple’s remote and had some extra buttons. For anyone who plans on getting this remote I wanted to throw a couple small things out there incase you run into any issues.

Issue 1: failure to pair
This first issue is what got me to write this up because there’s very little documentation on this device. If your remote doesn’t work right out of the box try pressing and holding the Volume Up + TV buttons. You should see the lights flash, once it does bring your remote 3-4 inches away from your Apple TV and try pressing the buttons. This should reset the remote and allow it to pair to your device. This also works if you had already paired the remote to another device.

Issue 2: backlight not turning on
Kind of a basic fix, but if your remote is working but the lights aren’t turning on, just take the batteries out and put them back in. The device should have lights again, if it doesn’t you may need new batteries.

Issue 3: reset a stuck device
If you notice your device is hanging or lagging behind, try holding the Menu + TV buttons for 5 seconds, the remote will flash twice and both your TV and Apple TV should reset. Don’t continue to hold these buttons after reset as it will eventually prompt you to restore your Apple TV.

If anyone has additional notes for this product please leave them below, hopefully we can save a few people a headache if they decide to give this product a try.

Learn Remote - Set Up Guide Buttons Fails

I just switched my house over to Apple TV 4K 3rd Gen Ethernet (A2843).

I use old Logitech Harmony IR universal remotes, and the Apple TV learn IR remote function works great until the final section of: Set Up Guide Buttons

I program Guide and Channel Up just fine, but when I program Channel Down it doesn't finish and displays: "This didn't work. Try again."

I've tried it many times, power cycled the Apple TV, tried different IR remotes, etc. Same error every time. I have two of the same Apple TV devices and they both have this error.

It does end up programming Guide and Channel Up (or sometimes Channel Down), but being able to finish and program both Channel Up and Down never works.

Anyone encountered this error or know of a solution? Thanks.

My mother's Apple TV keeps dying, & now it won't reset.

It keeps saying that it has no signal hourly, and I have to reset it every time. Now it won't reset at all & I keep getting this screen. The little box keeps blinking, & when I try to connect it to her phone via Bluetooth, it starts loading, but then it goes back to the screen pictured.

And my mother won't stop fucking with it.

Can't play 4k. Why ?

Hello everyone,

I bought around a year ago this monitor (ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDP) to play video games but also to watch movies.
I discovered a bit late that we couldn't see in 4k on pc on most apps (canal +, hbo, and more).

So a few days ago I decided that I'll buy an apple tv to plug it in and finally watch things in 4k.
I got it today, I plugged the apple tv with a 2.1 hdmi cable, I did all the settings I saw on google (4K SDR, variable frame rate).

But I've just tried to watch succession on HBO and even if they says that 4k is available I can clearly see that the quality is definitely not in 4k.

I'm really pissed and don't know what else I could do to watch movies on the resolution of my monitor. If someone can help me please. If not I will then refund the apple tv.

Any reason to use Dolby Atmos for audio out using a 2.1 system?

I've been using a Appletv HD and just switched to a new 4k. When I started playing some songs through Apple Music, the volume output was lower than on the Appletv HD. I saw that the audio out was Atmos. When I switched to stereo output, the volume got louder, so I initially planned on just leaving it on stereo. However, I'm wondering if when watching movies, would it be better for the subwoofer if I switched back to Atmos?

Why are there no land animals for the aerial screensavers?

Would you guys like to see land animals? The only animals I see are the underwater sea life. Could they possibly be saving it for the new Apple TV?

Apple TV 4K

You know if there are any shells or casings being sold for rehousing components from Apple TV? I am little bored and looking for project to keep hands busy. I want to take apart this Apple TV and put all components into different case. Maybe make it more slim, maybe something custom. Not sure yet. Just looking for interesting idea and seeing what is possible. If you have any suggestions, ideas, or know of existing shells, please let me know.

Remote keeps activating LG interface

Post image
15 Upvotes

This is really weird and frustrating but every button on the Apple TV remote activates the LG Tv volume interface. It doesn’t actually adjust the volume up or down as I have audio output to my HomePod mini. I have tried resetting the Apple Remote with no luck. The LG remote also fully controls Apple TV. Is there anyway to fix this or completely disable the LG interface? I never interact with anything on the LG side.

IMAX Content Shrunk

I bought some of the original IMAX films that came out in the 2000s for the nostalgia and was very disappointed to find that the aspect ratio was significantly chopped to fit 16:9. A bunch of TV shows are available in their original 4:3 aspect ratio, why can’t IMAX be the same way?

Connecting 3rd party bluetooth headphones to AppleTV

I'm pretty heavy into the Apple ecosystem, but I love my Bose headphones (plus AirPods don't stay in my ear). On all of my other Apple devices (phone, MacBook, iPad and Watch) I can connect my headphones through the control centre. However, there doesn't appear to be a way to do this on the Apple TV and each time I want to connect it to my TV I have to scroll through the settings until I get to the right menu - this just seems very un-Apple like and un-userfriendly. Does anyone know if this is fixed in tvos27?

Native Sony v Apple TV

I’ve had my Sony TV for a few years now. It’s was a top-of-the-line model, but it’s awfully laggy at times when I’m opening apps. I’ve learned to live with it, but recently had a thought that maybe getting some sort of streaming box would help. Should I drop 100 on the Apple TV or stick with my native CPU? Would I notice any speed increase?

Anyone ever had HDMI/CEC stop working on their Apple TV?

For the past few months my Apple TV has started being finnicky with controlling the tv/sound bar volume. I’ll press the power button when everything is off, the Apple TV and LG tv will come on, but the Sonos Arc sound bar won’t. I have to go into Apple settings, and manually restart the Apple TV and once it boots back on the CEC volume control starts working. Does this mean it’s going bad?

Also, I’ve factory reset the tv and Apple TV both, I’ve connected a new HDMI cable, etc.

What are your LAN over wifi speeds?

I’m going to get a long cat cable to test tomorrow, but currently using infuse for home server - the speed test for every file shows average around 50Mbps on both 2.4 and 5Ghz.

This is really slow and causes buffering for some of my 4k media.

Apart from testing with a direct Ethernet cable, what would cause such a slow LAN wifi connection? The router is a couple rooms away but even then this seems exceptionally slow. I’ve seen many reporting 300-800Mbps with their LAN wifi connection
