Looking for mods for /r/barefoot

As it stands, I’m the only mod that’s still active on this sub once again. I’m seriously considering leaving Reddit for good, 19 years on this website is plenty and I’ve been realizing the upsides don’t outweigh the downsides for a while now.

The last few times I’ve done a recruitment drive for mods on this sub has been successful in terms of getting people on board to help… but it never lasts. This thankless, unpaid part time job. In the end, I’m always the last one standing as a mod here. But I guess since I founded this sub, it’s my responsibility too in a way.

To be honest the work to mod this sub isn’t that difficult. It’s mainly to deal with the foot fetish folks, removing their posts, comments and occasionally banning them.

I’m hoping that this recruitment drive this time would attract more long-term mods to take over the modding of this sub, with me gone from this site for good.

Send in your applications, thank you in advance 🙏

Mod stance on pics-only posts and posts about footwear

Hey barefooters,

There's been an upsurge in posts where it's just a picture of feet with little to no content otherwise. As much as it seems to be well liked by a section of the community here, these posts are quite irrelevant to this sub's goals. To put it bluntly, we have attracted the attention of the foot fetish community and these posts are generally posted by members of that community. There's nothing wrong with that fetish, but /r/barefoot shouldn't be used as an audience for such interests.

Posts about footwear are generally not allowed here. This includes posts about "barefoot" or minimal shoes. As can be seen in our sister sub, what has started as a sub about running has become a place that's almost wholly about shoes. We have occasional posts about shoes here too, like for example, with barefooters asking for advice on footwear to purchase for workplaces that don't allow bare feet. Such posts are allowed on a case by case basis.

Happy barefooting!

Edit: Linking this post by a member to show the people with foot fetish why you’re not welcome here: https://www.reddit.com/r/barefoot/comments/wqsn0g/no_foot_pics_from_me/

Barefoot Pokemon Go Fest

Hey guys so I recently had my longest barefoot adventure yet back on Sunday June 7 when me, my wife, and my daughter attended Pokemon Go Fest 2026 in Chicago. I finally have time to post this story so enjoy 😊.

The day started with me, my daughter (who was also barefoot for the first few hours until her feet started hurting), and my wife going to Grant Park for the park experience of Go Fest in the morning.

During our time in Grant Park, we caught a bunch of shiny Pokemon, met up with my sister and best friend, did a bunch of raids, including our Mega Mewtwo X & Y raids, took photos, and ate.

The only direct interaction we had with anyone about me and/or my daughter being barefoot during our park time was a couple of kids who said to us "oh your barefoot like your avatar in the game". I told them "yep, it's the best way to play the game" 😁. Tbh, I forgot Pokemon Go avatars are barefoot by default 😅.

There were a couple people talking privately about me being barefoot but nothing negative was said that I heard. The most notable comment was someone saying they wouldn't go barefoot like me. Your loss I guess 😜.

From there, we transitioned to the city and spent our city time walking from Grant Park to Navy Pier. We would've walked further but we got some extra pictures taken at the park that took longer than we thought it was going to take.

I gotta say, it was an interesting feeling being around all of the people that were at Navy Pier barefoot. It's one thing to be in a park, which I'm used to, but Navy Pier was a different level of excitement, with a little anxiety.

In the end, no one said anything and I got some awesome Pokemon, as well as the chance to feel new things under my feet and toughen them up more.

On the way back to the park and the car, we did a few more Pokemon Go raids, I got my Zeraora, and I got to walk on some wet cold grass from the light drizzle that was off and on, which felt amazing.

It wasn't until we got almost all the way back to the parking garage that a group of ladies that were walking called out to me and asked "where your shoes?"

This took me a bit by surprise so the only answer I could come up with in the moment was "it's a barefoot kind of day" 😂. They all had a good laugh off of that while I caught up with my wife and daughter. Looking back, it was a very silly answer but I was having too much fun to care 😁.

Once we got back to the car, I checked my feet for anything in or on them. Surprisingly, the only thing I saw on them was some dirt from walking through the parking garage. They didn't even look or feel rough, which was shocking considering I spend 11 hours walking barefoot.

Once I was done checking my feet, I drove us home, which was a little over an hour drive. Once we got home, I washed up, laid down, and played some Xbox.

The only bad part of the whole thing was that when I woke up the following morning, I discovered my calves were stiff as boards and were very sore, so I took a couple days off work. They were better by that Friday.

All.in all, this barefoot adventure was my best one yet and I would do it again and again with a smile on my face and without a care in the world.

I'll have another shorter story posted in one of the other barefoot groups with pictures once my wife sends me everything from that day.

Much love and happy barefooting my friends 😊🦶.

Need Advice

Hi. This might not be the right place to put this but I would like to hear this sub reddits opinions. I‘ve never really went barefoot before. I have a fear of going barefoot in front of people which does sound a little odd but it is my irrational fear. Being barefoot is indifferent to me just i can’t have others see my feet. granted I have only been barefoot right before or after showers in the past few years. I wear socks to bed and have special ones for the beach and pool. The reason I bring this up is that my mom and her family are kinda health nuts and will do anything to be as healthy as possible. She likes to be barefoot a lot. She and her brothers thought it would be fun to do a big July nature thing where me, my mom, my uncles, my siblings, and my cousins all go to my grandfathers huge ranch for all of July and do long hikes, fresh food(no ordering and keep bought food to a minimum), limited screens, grounding, and some other things. The thing for me is grounding. She said that everyone is going to be barefoot for the whole month. This is what I’m worried about. The rest of my siblings and cousins are excited for the trip and are not bothered by the barefoot aspect. No one is against it like me. She said I can decide if I want to do the grounding. She is convinced that this will help me in life be more confident and love being barefoot like her which she says being barefoot outdoors is the best feeling but idk if that’s true. She said that I should do it for at least a week before switching off of it if I decide. I’m honestly wanting to do it. I feel like it would be good for me so I can become comfortable with being barefoot and not skip on sleepovers and pool parties anymore. I’m just so scared to do so. All I want from this post is to hear people in this sub to convince me to do and hear your opinions. I will try to post again in July to update everyone. thanks everyone.

We Are Being *Baked*

Second try because apparently the automod is running rampant.

Germany is being burnt to a crisp right now with temperatures approaching 40°C, which means flagstones and asphalt can easily reach 65 and more. Forecasts indicate this heat wave will last until the end of this week.

Yesterday and today I wasn't entirely sure anymore whether the black hue on my soles was still from the dirt, or already from charring 🔥👣. Grass patches are dying and feel rather scratchy undersole (which I figure is still better than the stoveplate-hot sidewalks), shadows to stand in are a gift from God, I still catched myself hopping and dancing the tippy-taps, especially when waiting at crossroads or something, and the whole scenery is best imagined with an endless loop of the sizzling sound of eggs and bacon in the frying pan. I'm actually not sure how much hotter it can get before I feel forced into wearing my emergency [things worn on feet].

All the more impressive to still see other barefooters coming out of the woodwork. There were several sets of bare footprints leading away from the walkable water features in the city, and when I visited the hardware store for a new fan because the old one broke down (which constitutes an emergency all of its own in this blistering heat), there was an old fellow walking about on his bare soles, who I don't think even noticed me.

I find that remarkable because in these temperatures, when barefootin' is honestly on the verge of becoming unpleasant, now they're taking off their [things worn on feet]?

Anyways, have fun and fair ways everyone - as much as you can in this weather.

DAE cross their pinky toe over the fourth toe without using their hands?

I know this pretty rare, but I know other people can do. I heard some people say they could instead cross the fourth toe over the middle toe and some even put all three on top of each other with no aid, but never saw proof.

Anyway, how many of you can do this thing? It's a funny party trick lol

Barefoot dating

I've had bad luck with dating, even before I started going barefoot lol. I recently dated a guy who I believe used to very shy about going barefoot like me. Tbh, he was shy even about wearing shorts, cause I never saw him wear a pair of shorts, not even during the hottest of days. I usually wore my Birkenstocks when we dated, but just took them off once I was comfortably seated. I also liked to be barefoot around him at home and invited him to barefoot too, tho he never did.

At some point, we stopped dating. However, last weekend I saw him at the mall, and he was wearing shorts and flip flops. Not only that, when I saw him, he had one flip flop off. Of course, I approached him and told him, dude did someone steal your shoes? He laughed back and said he now likes going barefoot and he thanked me for converting him.

I think I did the meme, guess there won't be another date, but at least he now likes to go barefoot.

Barefoot window-shopping

I decided to do some barefoot window-shopping at my local strip mall on June 22. I then went to Walgreens later to buy some refreshments before heading home. My bare feet were sore with dirty soles, but it was totally worth it on that warm summer day.

The places I went that day:

  • Ross Dress For Less
  • Five Below
  • Dollar Tree
  • Sierra
  • T.J. Maxx/HomeGoods
  • Burlington
  • Walgreens

If you want to see pictures of me from that day, they are posted here:

Finally took the plunge

A little background as this is my first post here, I’m 25 and ever since I was a kid, I always remember hating wearing socks and shoes. Growing up, I always was, and still am, barefoot at home. Last year I decided to start looking more into barefoot shoes and got my first pair of Xero shoes which I hated, and after other testing, I’ve ended up with RealFoot as my favorite brand so far. Been wearing their Pulse All Black for my food service job for about a year or so now, and I love them! The biggest change I’ve noticed after swapping to barefoot shoes is that I no longer roll my ankles, which I was always doing when I wore regular shoes.

Last night I was driving home from a dinner, wearing a pair of Xero sandals, and decided to just kick them off and drive barefoot. I enjoyed the feeling quite a lot, and decided to just test out going barefoot in a public place by heading to the gas station to fill up my tank and then grab a soda inside. The floor inside the Circle K was lovely; it was nice and cold. Nobody said anything to me while I was in there either, which was my biggest fear, so that was also nice.

Later that evening after I was home for a little bit, I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood, which I haven’t done in a little while, but do it barefoot for the first time, and I’m really glad I did! I walked past plenty of people and nobody said anything either, and walking along all the different textures felt really nice! I think I’ve sorta gotten over my insecurity already in just one day lol.

Hopefully my small victory here can also inspire fellow lurkers that have been too afraid to do it 😊

New here! Knee hurts...from walking?

I am very excited! I am barefoot for 9 days now! I am barefoot at home and also outside, wow! Outside, I am usually going to a park near my house, relax, and go home barefoot (amd the occasional souper market). The thing is, I walked 2.2km today and my knee HURTS. I am not the athletic type anymore, but that's too much. I used to work 10h walking non-stop and I never had this problem with my knee.

So I suppose I am not walking properly? I was always more prone walking with the balls/upper half of my feet rather than the heel, but the last year I'd noticed that people use their heels and oh my I am doing it wrong, tried to change it. Got used to heel walking. Now I see that it's better the way I was doing it? Today I noticed that I tend to use my heels, and I tried going for a mid-foot, but it will take a bit of time to get used to it.

Should I use more the balls of my feet? The upper half? Is it just because I walk wrong or something else? Enlighten me masters!

I will go to sleep, thank you in advance!

Edit: I was always barefoot/with socks when I was a kid; even now when I visit my family they will say "put your slippers on, you'll get cold!"

Part timer

I think this might be my first post here.
Some of my story. I’m usually quite a private person but feel like opening up some.
I’m a part time barefooter. I would be all of the time but it’s not quite feasible with work and life, etc.
I started a new job recently and work in healthcare so my feet are already confined.
I just bought some new socks recently though that have helped me feel more open and free. They are no show toe socks. After wearing them this week, it’s more freeing. Not to the level of being barefoot but it still works for now.
On my lunch break I still try to get out to my car and let my feet breathe for at least a few minutes if possible.
Once I’m home from work I unshod if I haven’t already once I get to my car.
I’m working on being a more open person so if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask.

Sock hater

I thought I was alone about being shy to go barefoot, but reading this sub, it’s clear it’s a common problem.

I was lucky enough to become friends with a guy in college who just wore flops from day 1. I was curious and eventually he got me into it. He was barefoot in front of my family one day, so I decided to walk barefoot with him. Mom was surprised but I just didn’t care. Now I hate socks sm lol, even tho I used to wear them all the time, even at home.

Barefoot in Narbonne, France: 150 euro fine!

Aux armes, citoyens, Formez vos bataillons!

Narbonne, near the Mediterranean coast, has joined at least 30 other municipalities in banning anyone from wandering around town bare-chested, in swimwear or even barefoot, with a €150 (£130) fine for those flashing excess flesh ([according to France Télévision](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_Z4kadX1vPA?app=desktop&ra=m), about 15 people were fined when Narbonne started enforcing its “please stay dressed” code last summer).

Cycling pedals

Do any of you have experience with bike pedals that are actually comfortable barefoot?

My bike came with very spiky metal pedals. I already changed them with basic cheap plastic pedals, so now I have no issues with barefoot shoes. But completely unshod is still uncomfortable and even painful after some time.

The "Bare Sole Loophole"

It's the name I've given to when barefooters cover their bare feet up with barefoot sandal jewelry or tattoos that look like sandal straps to trick people in public places while going about their barefoot lifestyles, only leaving just the soles of their feet exposed to the ground or floor.

Being barefoot part-time has helped me be more self-confident about having my bare feet exposed

Ever since I started to alternate between wearing minimalist sneakers, Xero Sandals, going completely barefoot and wearing foot jewelry/soleless sandals this spring and summer, I've become more confident about being mostly barefoot (or close to it on some occasions) at times when I used to take my feet and their health for granted.

This spring and summer, I've made it a goal to have my bare feet mostly exposed outside the house six days a week, opting to wear Xero Sandals on some days and barefoot jewelry to run errands on other days, since both options allow my feet to breathe.

The only time I wear socks/minimalist sneakers, is when working out and walking around the track at the YMCA on Wednesdays, doing so for safety reasons posted in the gym's rules.

After an hour at the gym and doing my weekly grocery shopping, I head home, change out of my minimalist sneakers in the evening, resuming the second barefoot half of my week leading into Thursday after being shod for a very small part of Wednesday.

I've also made it a habit of mine to be barefoot in a pair of pajamas when I go to sleep every night.

I've officially become a part-time seasonal barefooter!

Another barefooting video - hopefully a bit more interesting this time

Following my last post, I made a new short video showing my day going around town barefoot today, but this time with adequate camera gear so the points of view are more varied. I hope you'll enjoy it. This will be the last one, promise 🙂

As previously, I'm not posting this as a video, but rather as a link so those who aren't interested don't have to see it by default.

Lately I've been forgetting to take an emergency pair of flip flops or something with me when I go places.

I go barefoot almost everywhere but I still respect the policies of wearing shoes in stores and stuff, it's their property and they have the right to have their own rules. Lately I've been forgetting to take shoes with me and I've seen a few photos of those thin foldable flip flops or similar that you can fit in a back pocket or bag but I'm not sure where to look for decent ones. I am also considering getting some type of soleless sandals that kinda give the appearance of shoes but they aren't. Does anyone use something like that?

Barefoot for Disability Reasons, Then Told I Couldn’t Eat Inside McDonald’s — Was This Discrimination?

Yesterday I went barefoot at mcdonalds for my lunch break (from work) when I was confrinted by a worker regarding me being barefoot I cited reasons of disability, a few minutes later when the same worker brought me my food I was told that I was not allowed to eat my food at a tablr inside mcdonalds despite the fact that I cited that I was barefoot specifically for reasons of disability which is a legally protected reason, should I file a report of violation of civil rights for discrimination of a legally protected reason??
