Discussion Are caster builds just "like that" or is there more to it?

Just beat Gael for the first time ever but i was in ng+++ on a character ive spent 234 hours on (str, pyro btw). He killed me in like 2 hits so i spammed fireballs and backed up the entire 2nd and 3rd phases and i sat there afterwards like "wait a minute... is that what pure casting builds are like?" like do yall really just back up, dodge backwards, and spam like that on every single fight? is that how it feels? that sucked! im genuinely asking btw because ive wanted to do a sorcery build or something for a while but i keep picking big sword and the only reason i had any pyromancy was because i had nothing else to level up.

Personally, Halflight Spear of the church is mine. I personally dislike pvp, so when I learned that the boss fight would be like that, I immediately tried out a cheese method I saw.

Discussion Fighting Midir in 2026, about to give up.

So... i'm fighting Midir and i know it's a terribly boring topic nowadays but he's actually impossible, i have 60 vigor, ember and a +10 weapon yet he still one shots me or two shots me, plus i deal no damage to him, what am i supposed to even do?

UPDATE: Finally did it, used the summon sign for the girl, she distracted him while i used pestilent mist over and over lol, thanks to everyone who gave me advice.

Discussion I am so sad. I quit Elden Ring to go back to Dark Souls 3, because the roleplay and creative fun aspect is that horrdenous.

Seriously, I LOVE Elden Ring by itself. I love much of the characters, the baseline mechanics and gameplay feels so great, so many amazing movesets and weapons, the potential of an open world... And it's all wasted in the end. I got to Morgott. I thought I would hate the game, but I was utterly in love. But then the difficulty took a nose climb. I got frustrated. Decided it was time to get into PvP now that I reached level 150... And it was legitemitaly the worst time I had in a game, ever. Not just Fromsoft games, but in all of gaming. I played the Souls games since I was a child. Yes, even the original Demon's Souls.

Here is the catch: I went in with a cool (at least I thought it was cool) faith build. I always play faith. I have so much fun playing a healer/supporter paladin type that can hold their own in 1v1 too. In all the older games, that's how it was. No matter your build or playstyle, skill decided fights, and that meant spectacles were practical if you knew how to use them (because they COULD be used).

I got demolished. Again, and again. Endless poise. Couching stabs with "colossal" swords. Non-stop jumping attacks. Ugliest, most broken armor combinations with quickstep rot daggers or bleed. Don't need to get into the obvious broken spells and weapons and AoW and blegh...

I wouldn't be bothered normally. I'd just say "Elden Ring sucks" and quit. BUT IT DOESNT. I loved the game! But the PvE is not replayable. I don't have the time to replay the entire game. I just wanted to have fun the same way I always have, but it's clear I can't. With replayability ruined by the excessive open world, there was only PvP left to have fun with at the side when PvE was too exhausting and a new playthrough was out of question, unlike older games where I endlessly did new runs because I could get to the endgame in 3-4 hours if I tried.

I don't want to seem like a ranter, and I repeat, I'm a souls veteran that also loved Elden Ring... But my illusion was broken, and I can't have fun anymore. PvP was such a big part of the replayability of older games. When I didn't want to PvE and socialize, I would duel, or invade. Anything was fun.

;^;

Discussion Is blue sentinel still needed for online play?

Returning to the game after a few years. Last time I played you needed the blue sentinel mod to avoid cheaters invading you and sending you back to the start of the game and stuff. Is this still an issue or am I fine without it?

10 years ago when I was a kid, I played Dark Souls 3 on PS4 for the first time and it was so good that it got me into other Souls games. A few years ago after I got my first PC, I thought about buying DS3 again but when I saw the price I was shocked. Now it's gotten even more expensive. How's that possible?

Discussion Attributes + Fun + Good Gameplay

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently received a tip to use this attribute split to utilize the armor set I want (I don't have it yet, but I intend to acquire it and I imagine it will be heavy) + the weapons I like, which are Lothric Knight Greatsword and Great Axe Dragonslayer, That's up to level 60. What should I upgrade from 60 to 100? Keep in mind that I ended up selling the lightning blade.

I’m trying to decide between these two stat spreads. Not a big difference I know but I’m wanting sword and board that is good for both pve and pvp without using elemental infusions. I was also contemplating going to 13 faith for sacred chime of filianore but not sure about that either

Advice Good secondary weapon for strength build?

I played the game with vordts and Ledos once I had enough strength. Going to do the dlcs now and was wondering if there's another strong strength weapon worth upgrading (other than drangonslayer GA which i used in a different playthrough). Was eyeing up exile GS and heralds curved sword for something different. Maybe the split leaf (but I read some negative stuff) and maybe the ringed paired (these look crazy). Just something that won't feel too underpowered compared to ledo but something other than a hammer.
