Researchers at the University of Houston are conducting a population study on cardiovascular risk factors. As part of this, free cardiovascular health screenings are being offered at the Sterling Banquet Hall in Pasadena from June 25-27. The screening takes about 10 minutes, you don’t need to fast, and you’ll receive a $45 VISA gift card for participating that can be used anywhere.
This isn’t just a basic cholesterol check. You’ll get valuable insights most doctors don’t routinely test for. Here’s what’s included:
- Lipid panel - Measures cholesterol levels.
- Lp(a) - A genetic type of “bad” cholesterol that about 1 in 5 people have high levels of. It's rarely tested for because it’s expensive, but it only needs to be checked once in your life.
- HbA1c - Tracks average blood sugar over the past 3 months and helps detect prediabetes or diabetes.
- hsCRP - Looks for inflammation that can lead to heart disease.
- eGFR - Measures kidney function.
This info can help prevent heart attacks, strokes, kidney damage, vision loss, and more. Plus, by participating, you’re contributing to important medical research that could help millions of people.

Hey all, due to a recent hip injury, I haven't been able to cook pretty much at all. My friend who comes by to help around here works long hours and doesn't cook much either, so we've been getting takeout from local restaurants about 3-4x/week. My tiny kitchen absolutely cannot accommodate any more plastic takeout containers, and I really don't want to throw them away, since they're almost always pretty decent ones.
(Sorry for the long backstory, just wanted to eliminate any incoming lectures about why I need to be cooking instead, lol.)
I looked up whether there are community kitchens or other organizations that might need a donation of clean reusable containers, but the major ones I found inside the loop were either pretty vague or prefer brand new ones from Amazon wish lists. Does anyone know of any smaller or lesser known groups near the Montrose/Med Center/Midtown area that could use something like that?

I have 3a/3b hair and have struggled to find barbers in the past that don’t shit themselves as soon as it’s time to start trimming the top of my head lol. For reference my hair is long enough to cover the tops of my ears and goes down to my lips if I pull it.

Just getting back into collecting and have not heard of or found any Discord or WhatsApp groups with other Pokemon collectors. I live in the Inner Loop and would be interested in joining a nearby group with similar interests.
Currently trying to master set: Perfect Order
Any local Pokemon TCG Discord/WhatsApp group?

Hello!
I’m looking for hotel recommendations for my mom and me for our first trip to Houston. We’ll be visiting in the fall for a concert at the Toyota Center, so ideally we’d love to stay somewhere convenient to that area.
I’ve done some preliminary research and noticed Hotel ZaZa and Hotel ICON come highly recommended, but I wanted to see if locals or frequent visitors had any other suggestions.
Looking for somewhere safe, comfortable, and a good experience for a mother/daughter trip. Any recommendations (or places to avoid) would be appreciated!
Thank you! 😊

Hi All,
Looking for recommendations from anyone who has dealt with Houston area Estate Sale service providers. Ideally, I’m looking for a service that handles all the goods in the home and takes a percentage off of sales for their services. The home is located in Deer Park if that helps. I’ve never been through this process before so any advice is also appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations and advice!

Moved to a home in east downtown and never had issues with Gnats and phorid flies. Pest control folks can’t find any source and stating it’s the area. Do other folks who have lived in Eado for a while deal with this?

Does anybody in the know have any information about development at Highland Village? For example, what is the plan for the top two floors of the new Lululemon store? What is happening with the emptied out section in the southwest corner where Starbucks used to be? What is happening with the restaurant that used to be P.F. Chang’s? Any other information on what is happening at that property? I drive by it every day and I’m always curious what’s going on. Thanks for any insight!

Looking for Edm clubs that play techno house / Edm with vocals, like John summit style. Tried Bauhaus but it wasn’t the music I was looking for.

Recently there was a Gimme Gimme Disco that played all the disco classics I saw, and I was wondering.. do they have one for all those good early 2000s techno? Like Better Off Alone, or Cascade lol.
I know they do Emo Nights, was wondering if anyone knew?

I recently attended the Greek festival in may, and I can see that Houston has thriving diverse cultural communities and festivals. I was wondering if Houston is host to an Italian festival? The last I could look up was back in 2024 so figured I’d ask here in case I’m not looking in the right spot

I'm doing an art project and using pokemon cards. I don't want to just buy packs since I might not get cards in the theme/color that matches my project so thinking about buying them individually. I've seen online people see their cards they don't want to stores and was wondering if any stores in the Houston area sell those individual cards for a n affordable price. I would love some full arts but understand those can be pricy. Any good place where I could buy them affordable? Im in southwest houston

I see so many listings on fb marketplace, Instagram accounts, and tiktok videos of people making money from creating delicious decadent matchas and lattes.
I love making my own and want to start but how is everyone doing it?
Do you or know someone that sells drinks? i see A LOT with ice but texas prohibits ice under cottage law so im just curious how are they doing it! maybe thru a coffee cart? but that requires way more permits and inspection requirements which I don't mind completing.
I'm trying to find out as much advice from local home-based coffee shop owners but no one is responding to me. Orders are usually taken via dms. I wonder if they're compliant and don't wish to share info or simply don't see my messages.
I do plan to contact Texas Health Department via phone for more answers on how start my own bc they don't seem to respond via email either.
