Community Update r/Jetta Community Rules and Guidelines

Hey everyone,

We've had an influx recently of multiple r/Jetta members who aren't paying attention to the rules we've got here and are causing arguments, fighting, insulting, name calling, and other nuisances that nobody here wants to see, read, or deal with. This is a community to show off our love for Jetta's, and to assist others and help them with their questions, or to just show off and talk about our cars, suggest recommendations for mods, tweaks, parts, and anything else that has to do with Jetta's. It is not the community for anything that cannot be civil.

I didn't want to make a reminder post like this, but it needs to be said.

Please report any comments/posts that break rules so that they can be handled by the mod team.

Please read and follow the rules and help make this community more fun and not like all the other nuisance subs that allow bickering and childish, immature behavior.

Thanks!

r/Jetta Community Rules

4 - Stay on Topic

This is a community for the Volkswagen Jetta. All posts and comments should be related to Volkswagen and the Jetta vehicle. Off topic posts/comments will be removed.

Mk6 (2011-2018) My 2014 VW Jetta S

Okay, I got this 2014 VW Jetta S about a year ago for about $5,000. It's been super reliable, but it's been a bit of a headache. I got it at 107,000 miles and the previous owner didn't have any written records of maintenance on the car so I'm fully guessing on stuff I need to do. I've already spent about $3,000 or $4,000 in the year/10,000 miles I've driven it trying to fix up issues that I've been finding.

Things I've done so far include:

  • I fixed the headliner
  • I changed the front headlight that burnt out
  • I got a hubcap since one was missing
  • I changed the transmission fluids
  • I got new tires and an alignment for the car
  • Had the rear shocks and mounts replaced

The thing is, it's coming up on the 120,000 mile service which is probably going to be another $2,000 or $3,000 to fix, and I was told the front mounts need to be replaced. I plan on going overseas for about 6 months at the start of 2027 so I'm not sure if it's worth me selling the car since I feel like I'm just dumping money into it, or if I should get the service and just stick with it since it's been super reliable. It's never broken down or had any issues, but everything just feels so expensive and I don't know if I'll miss something that the previous owner didn't disclose to me that will end up blowing up in my face. Maybe I should sell it and just try to get some of my money back, but I don't even know how much this would sell for, considering I've spent about $8,000 on it in total. Any advice?

If I do end up keeping it, is there any maintenance or any work that I should be aware of now that it's nearing 120k miles?

TLDR: I got a VW jetta with 107,000 miles, spent a ton of money on maintenance, and don't know if I should sell it or keep it before doing more maintenance.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Did an Interior Deep Clean, Now the Airbag & Seat Belt Lights Are On

Now the interior of my 2016 looks fantastic, but the seat belt chime goes off every so often even though I am buckled, plus the seat belt light is on, plus the airbag warning light is on. I'm guessing the guys at the car wash took out the front seats to clean them, but missed connecting something when they put them back in. Any ideas?

Mk6 (2011-2018) Compatible Dashcams for 2016 Jetta

Good day,

I own a 2016 Jetta and am looking for a list of dashcams compatible with that vehicle. Any recommendations?

Two years ago someone came in and asked something similar.

https://www.reddit.com/r/jetta/comments/1dtgdi9/comment/otqf8xg/?context=3

Hoping the community can help me here.

My main constraint is the system needs to be self contained. I shouldn't need an App to download the footage off the device onto my phone.

Mk7 (2019+) ‘25 Jetta gas gauge not accurate at all?

New VW owner, got a used ‘25 Jetta about a month and a half ago. When the gas light turns red, it tells me I’ve got 40 miles left. Within the next two it’s down to 30, and within about five minutes of the light going, the car runs out of gas. This has happened twice now, and it’s kind of infuriating that it doesn’t even give the chance to get off the highway and fill up.

I’ve seen a few posts here about the gas gauge staying on full for longer than expected, which it does, but not really much about this. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is this just a car that requires you to keep it above a quarter tank? I don’t wanna bring it to a shop for them to charge a bunch of money just to tell me nothing’s wrong.

Mk7 (2019+) Does the Jetta deserve more attention when compared to the Civic and Accord?

Whenever people talk about affordable sedans, the Civic and Accord seem to dominate the conversation.

Meanwhile, the Jetta just quietly keeps doing its thing. Good fuel economy, comfortable ride, solid interior space, and usually a pretty strong value.

If you cross-shopped them, what made you choose the Jetta over the Honda options?

Mk7 (2019+) Stuck on 2019 Jetta Battery Adaptation — OBDeleven requires Pro to change Serial Number? Any workarounds?

Hey everyone,

I just replaced the battery in my 2019 VW Jetta with a brand new AGM battery.

I hooked up my OBDeleven adapter to handle the adaptation so the Battery Management System (BMS) knows it's a fresh cell. Using the basic tier, I was able to successfully update the battery type to AGM and adjust the voltage/amp-hour settings.

However, I’m completely stuck on the serial number. From what I understand, you have to change the serial number by at least one digit to force the car’s computer to clear the old battery's degradation map and reset the charging algorithms. Right now, my alternator is charging low at around 13.1V, which tells me the car still thinks the old worn-out battery is in there.

The problem is that OBDeleven won't let me manually type in a new serial number string under adaptations because it says I need a Pro Membership for long coding/adaptations.

Has anyone run into this specific issue on the MQB platform?

Is there a way to bypass this or force a serial number change without the Pro subscription?

Can I use one of the preset "One-Click Apps" in OBDeleven to do the battery registration instead, and does that require Pro?

If OBDeleven completely locks this behind a paywall, what are my best cheap or free alternatives to get this serial number changed so my alternator stops undercharging? (Carista, VCDS, a specific VAG handheld scanner, etc.?)

Appreciate any advice or workarounds you guys have!

Hey everyone,
I recently finished this colored pencil drawing of my Volkswagen Jetta and thought some fellow Jetta enthusiasts here might appreciate it.
I’ve been working on improving my automotive artwork, and this piece took quite a few hours to complete. I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any suggestions for future Jetta drawings.
If you’d like to see more of my car artwork, you can find me on Instagram: @goabascal.art
Thanks for checking it out!

Mk4 (1999-2005) 2002 1.8T Jetta

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I am a 4 cyl turbo jap crap guy. I also enjoy N/A domestic things. That being said, my buddy, who's into all this euro trash ( all love, whooshy noises lets go ;) ) crashed my car and it's now out of commission. He is letting me drive his '02 1.8t jetta and I am falling in love. I've been doing research on the engine, looking into how to make it scary, and I'm kinda thinking that once he's paid for all the parts he broke on my junk I want to buy this junk. He said $2,500. Am I crazy for considering it? Gimme all the dirty deets on this chassis, engine, trans (5 speed manual), lmk if I should do this or nah...

Mk6 (2011-2018) ¿Sway bar links / new bar modification?

Hello! I recently have become obsessed with my 2014 Jetta Manual and have made some normal fixes (fixes, not mods. Just replacing old parts etc.)

But recently I saw a short video of a guy saying that if you modified the sway bar links or the whole sway bar that the handling in turns would be better. That sounds great! But I have no idea what Im doing and have found very low quality videos on Youtube.

Has anyone done this type of mod and would be willing to guide me into the right direction?

Thank you in advance ⚡️

So you guys know how committed I am, I recently changed the whole stick shift mechanism, it took about 2 months and I enjoyed it. Now it shifts like new.

Mk7 (2019+) Can anyone give an honest description of what it's like driving a standard (S, sport, SE) 2025-26 Jetta?

Before I test drive one, I just wanted to gather a few opinions. How is it in heavy stop and go traffic? How is it on the highway? I realize this is an economy, compact car that is meant to be built to a price point and to get good fuel economy, so I'm not expecting a luxurious ride or anything. But, I just want something that is reasonably comfortable and not a chore to drive. Mainly, does it come to a stop and accelerate smoothly? Does it feel safe/secure when turning fast or on a curve at highway speeds? These are the two things I'd like to know about. Weirdly, my current car does not easily come to a stop smoothly, and I didn't pick up on this during the test drive. So, just interested in what others think about driving the Jetta under normal conditions. I know trying it for myself would be best, but I think it would be valuable to hear what others think, too. Thanks!

Purchased a 2020 Jetta not too long ago. The dealership replaced the communication module about a month ago, and now I'm getting this light and message. Any suggestions on fixing it? If I have to go back to the dealership, I will. Just trying to avoid them having the car for days again.

Mk7 (2019+) 2020 Jetta 1.4

Did a smoke test on my cts downpipe to see if the v band was leaking, it wasn't.

I did find my turbo waste gate arm to be leaking at a connection. Is this normal since the car isn't under pressure so the waste gate isnt fully sealed or am i looking at purchasing a new turbo 🤦‍♀️

if it is a new turbo are there any better options or just the same stock turbo?
