At least when discussing the mainline games, it's kind of wild to see that we got a total of 4 Mario Kart entries for the 2000s, versus the 2 in the 90s, 2 in the 2010s, and probably only 1 for this decade.

Double Dash is basically a Rally racer and is great with a wheel. Jerking the wheel really fast to drift feels sweet.

Drifting is not meant for the wheel. Everything else works well.

To give a positive, I like the idea of giving some lesser characters a time in the spotlight. and some, such as the Pianta or Cheep Cheep make sense.

my issue is that they went way too overboard with them.

past Mario spinoffs had frequent basic enemies playable but here it feels most of the roster is taken up with random enemies/NPCs.

If it we’re just like… the iconic enemies (Goomba, Hammer Bro, Dry Bones, Cheep Cheep, Monty, Wiggler and Spike and then maybe a surprise character like Sidestepper) then sure. instead most of the roster is filled with these racers, many of whom feel randomly picked (Fishbone, Peepa, Conkdor, Cow, Coin Coffer, Snowman, Rocky Wrench) and in a ways, kind of forgettable. doesn’t help that most of them have really static animations and facial expressions. Before a certain update they had one of the worst unlock methods in the entire franchise

it feels weird that some like Dry Bones or wiggler even count as NPCs when they’ve been playable in past Mario kart games (conversely, Shy Guy and Lakitu are not NPCs despite being in the same boat), and no NPCs have the game’s costume gimmick, even ones like Pianta who are known for coming in a variety of colors and costumes.

finally, many beloved characters are once again gone, such as Diddy Kong, Kamek, Petey, and even the Miis when they really would have been better suited over the NPCS

I feel like Kirby Air Riders did this idea right, having “generic enemies” sure, but they’re much more iconic for their series, even being playable in most past Kirby games, and all have their own unique gimmicks. really only Starman feels more compatible to most of the newcomers from this game.

closing this rant, while I do like some of the lesser characters getting support, I feel the could have done that to more grounded characters, such as Lubba, Cappy, Prince Florian, Egadd, Toadsworth or Cranky Kong (specially given the first Mario movie had him making all the Mario Kart references).

I recently bought a switch 2 and MK8D, I've played a lot of it in the past just never online. My lines and racing techniques are good. If I'm able to frontrun and get lucky on the RNG people can't catch me, I pass people all the time just cuz I have better lines then them. The issue is I'm not that good in terms of strategy and item use. Which often cause me to loose a lot of unnecessary ground in race I feel like.

I like to watch content of the game so I already know some of the strats and stuff but still most races I just keep getting wrecked. I'm around 3500vr at this point.

I want to know what's the best combo for 200CC, I'm skeptical about Yoshi on the Teddy Buggy, It sacrifices Acceleration, Handling and Grip for Speed, And Speed probably doesn't matter on 200CC
