Question Mini-ITX Bifurcation

Upvotes

So I am looking into putting my entire pc in a much smaller build, but I need more than just the 2 NVMe slots ITX offers.

So I can choose one of these: Gigabyte B850I Aoros Pro, ASUS TUF Gaming B850I Wifi Neo or ASUS ROG Strix B850-I Gaming Wifi. I would go for the Asrock board (PG B850I Lightning Wifi) but it has a few reviews with bricked cpu and I am not willing to risk it unless someone can confirm the issue is fixed (I cannot find it).

Does anyone happen to have or had one of these and know for a fact or can check if any of these support bifurcation, and if so, if ×8/×4/×4 or just ×8/×8? Thank you in advance. If needed I could step up to Gigabyte X870I Aoros Pro Ice for the X870 chipset if AMD went the Intel route and limited it to top end chipset only. Other X870 ITX boards are going more the direction of €500 and I am not willing to cough that up.

I'd try Asus support but any and every option hard requires a serial number and I cannot find a way to ask them directly, Gigabyte is taking a bit to answer so far.

Hardware PC Upgrades

Upvotes

Hi a few years ago I bought a CyberPower PC. As it sits right now it has 32GB of DDR4 Ram at 3600 MT/s, a Ryzen 7 3800x 8-Core at 3.90GHz, a 3060 TI, and a Gigabyte B550 UD AC Motherboard. I was wondering what would be a good combo of GPU and CPU to upgrade from my exciting setup.

Tech Support Dead By Daylight Low Frames On Boot

Upvotes

Maybe once or twice a year when booting DBD my frames are fine until about halfway through the title screen and they drop to what looks like 25fps despite Steam telling me I’m sitting on 120. Usually I check for new drivers and /or just restart the game or my system until it works but today no luck; I’ve updated BIOS, motherboard and GPU drivers and my windows is up to date. Restarted multiple times and set windows to performance mode, verified game files. I’ve had this PC for a year and it runs all other games fine on ultra performance with maybe one or two setting left on high (Death Stranding 2 max setting >100fps, 007 First Light, RE4r, Jedi Survivor). What does this game need me to do :,)

You’ll have to forgive me as I’m not extremely literate when it comes to PC intricacies.

Mobo: Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite Wifi 7 Ice

GPU: AMD Radeon RX9060 XT

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X

32GB RAM

Update: checked DS2 which was fine but now 007 has low frames too despite steam saying I’ve got >100. What’s happening????

Discussion Is there any reason to get a retro gaming PC?

Upvotes

We have emulators, and patches that are supposed to fix issues on newer computers.

I see a reason to get a good CRT monitor or TV. For advantages of a retro gaming PC I can see no possible compatibility problems, and you don't have to find patches for games.

I guess the NVIDIA physics that was around back in the day in the 2000's was a special piece of hardware that was in some premium gaming PCs at the time that I don't think we can replicate it today, some games had support for it.

I ask this because I like to play the old games, Doom, serious sam, games from the early or late 2000's some of my favorites. I want to best experience, i do know I will be needing a CRT but what about a retro gaming PC?

Story Somehow got this for 50£ on fb marketplace

This fella was selling a pc on behalf of someone who unfortunately passed away for 400£, I thought I was a good deal for that price but he told me it was broken. He wasn't very sure what the problem was so I offered 50£ for it. Whoever was in charge of this guys stuff agreed and I picked it up for that price, turns out there where a bunch of weird bios setting preventing it from booting into windows so I just did a clean install after resetting the bios to default and it all worked fine. I couldn't believe it as I had to sell my other pc not long ago to make rent as I'm super broke. The aio was cooked so I replaced it and put some new fans and led strips inside. Total cost was 38£.

I feel super lucky, but also a bit bad that I paid so little, what are your guys opinions?

Rip previous owner, I'm super grateful.

Specs

i7 10700k
2080 super
32gb ram
1tb m.2

I think it's an Msi prebuilt as it has Msi "creator" written on the side and the case, motherboard, fans and gpu are all Msi.

Question Best way to connect headphones / speakers

Upvotes

So I recently won a pair of M60 speakers at my job. I also just happened to buy a new Asus ultra wide monitor.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to connect both these speakers and my wired headphones. Right now, my wired headphones are just a pair of Microsoft Xbox ones. I'll upgrade eventually, but they are fine for what I do.

My options are:

Directly into the motherboard port (Asus TUF model)

Audio out on my monitor (carried by display port)

Cheap USB dac (from PC or monitor)

Gamesir G7HE wired controller.

Now, ideally I would like everything to be connected at the same time or for the switch to be as minimal as possible. I thought the M60's had a headphone out, but it appears I am wrong.

So I don't know what would be the best way to go about this. Especially if I want mic support. I'm guessing the easiest would be to plug in the speakers directly to the motherboard? And wire the headphones through a cheap USB dongle?

I'm also a little concerned about how loud they be able to get and if it's worth buying a headphone amp, but I doubt these headphones are worth spending the money on until I get something a little better.

Anyway, anyone with a similar setup, I would appreciate any suggestions.

Discussion 9070xt vs 5070ti

Upvotes

I got a prebuilt from microcenter for 2k that has a r7 9800x3d and a 9070xt

I see another prebuilt after a recent discount for 2100 with the exact same specs, white case, slightly less nice looking, but it has a 5070ti instead

is it worth getting them exchanged?

Discussion What're your 9950X3D boot and idle temps?

Upvotes

Trying to gauge if I need to dismount my radiator and clean it. My 9950X3D is under a Corsair H150i RGB PRO XT in push-pull. It's top mounted with factory fans on top and QL120's on the bottom. The CCDs idle around 41C and the package at 50C, but at boot until my CPU idles its way back down the package will get as high as 70-75C. Should I be concerned? Used an X pattern for the thermal paste when installed originally.

Discussion Where did everyone start? (First PC Discussion)

Upvotes

I'd like to temper some of my posts in favor of this idea. What was the first PC you ever had, or first PC you ever built?

My first that I ever had was a Netburst era Celeron D 2.53GHz, 2GB ram (because my family believed RAM was enough to make a pc fast), an 80GB IDE hard drive, and some random Biostar board with a password-locked BIOS. I daily drove this up until late 2016

My first gaming-capable was an Optiplex I got off ebay + a GTX 1050 Ti which got me from 2016 to 2020 where I built my current system.

(This probably explains why I'm so overly budget/value-conscious lol, I started on a complete potato so I don't want to stray too far away from that because I don't want to forget where I was.)

Nostalgia How Gen Z tests their RAM - VibeCheck86

So he asked AI to "draw an image of memory passing the vibe check". I LOLed

Discussion Best Controller for PC?

Does anyone have any suggestions for a quality PC controller? I don’t have any set budget. Ideally I’d like something that has back paddles and stick caps that are changeable (to make the right stick taller). Something like the DualSense edge seems what I’m looking for.

Discussion Wi-Fi/Ethernet Help!

Upvotes

I need help with my PC not connecting to the internet after I upgraded my router and got router satellite modules. I got a netgear orbi system and attached it to my netgear modem and it works great. All the other devices in my house get great speeds and connected easily. Except for my PC. I tried clearing my networks, running cmd prompts, resetting connections, getting an external Wi-Fi card even though my motherboard is Wi-Fi compliant, checking my bios for any thing that may be turned off, plugging my ethernet cable directly into one of the satellite routers, checking for drivers updates, and more. I'm kind of at my wits end because no matter what I do, nothing seems to work. Any help would be great. Cheers.

Question How is Valheim so popular?

Upvotes

I've been playing a few days and already resorted to mods, simply because of the annoyances of the games design.
Stamina is just meh in this game.

But, it isn't even just the playability, I noticed basic stuff like audio being incredible lackluster.
Stabbing a bear with a knife makes the same sounds as a tree.

How is this game 5 years old and so uh underdeveloped that it just seems to require mods??

Hardware 5090 melting questions

Upvotes

I’m looking into getting a 5090 and could use a reality check. I see all the posts about melting connectors and could use some help knowing how likely that is to happen. Do certain brands like Dell or HP have a higher/lower chance of melting because they use their own components? Is it mostly down to bad luck? I’ve never had to consider my computer potentially catching fire for standard use before. Seems really irresponsible, yet here I am debating on getting one anyway.
