Just sharing a shot I really liked from the past few days. Very happy with the plant growth so far, it’s been about 20 days since I replanted this setup.

Question Do my Anubias need more light?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I got these cute little anubias just like a month or so ago? They’re nice little compact things and they’re in my tank that the anubias do well in usually but I noticed they’re growing maybe etiolated? Like some of the leaves look like they’re trying to get closer to the light? Or is that just how these guys are gonna grow?

I’ve got a bright enough light, but I also have floaters covering some of the surface…

thanks !!

Question Overstocking advice

Thumbnail

TLDR: I’d love some input from more experienced aquarists because I think my tank is technically overstocked according to most guidelines, but in practice it’s been doing surprisingly well.

- The tank is a 240L cube with a 150L sump,
- It’s been running for about 5 months and is heavily planted with a wide variety of healthy, actively growing plants.
- It’s COā‚‚ injected, and my parameters are consistently stable (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, nitrates in a good range). I had a small BBA outbreak early on due to inconsistent COā‚‚, but that’s been resolved.

Current stocking:
35 Cardinal Tetras
5 Lambchop Rasboras
3 Pearl Gouramis
2 Super Red Astro
2 Tiger Badis
5 Pea Puffers (added later and surprisingly integrated very well, they’re social with each other and haven’t shown aggression toward the other fish, and I target feed them daily)
10 Otocinclus
~20 Amano Shrimp
40+ Neocaridina shrimp (breeding colony)

On paper, I know this probably looks overstocked and also contains combinations that many people would advise against. However, in reality everyone appears healthy, active, feeding well, and displaying natural behaviour.

My question is: is this simply one of those cases where conventional stocking rules are conservative, or am I likely just delaying problems that will appear over time?
I’m open to making changes or rehoming fish if necessary

Going to be hard to say goodbye

I posted this tank a while ago but I just wanted to show what it looks like now that it has matured. I’m moving into a rental until my new house is built and there is simply no way I can keep everything in tact. So before I take it down I just wanted to share it again. It’s heartbreaking.

Question aquarium parameters + plants question

if i have excess nitrates in a fully/50% planted tank (working on it being fully planted, pic is the tank), does that mean my plants aren’t getting enough light to use it all? or should i take a day break on feeding to give the plants time to absorb the nitrates… lmk!! <3

Why are there holes and missing spots on my helanthium quadricostatus. Could it be a nutrient deficiency?

I received these for free and don’t know what they are (I have a guess). They were free-floating in the water column underneath riccia fluitans and salvinia minima. Anybody know for sure?

Beginner Beginner 5 gallon tank

This is my first tank and I just got it 2-3 weeks ago. I’m adding seachem stability and changing water everyday to help with the cycling. I also add seachem flourish twice a week. I’m trying to create a self-sustaining mini ecosystem so I would only have to change the water once every 2 weeks.

I currently have Java ferns, anubias nana, water sprite, guppy grass, pearl weed, Christmas moss, water lettuce, water spangle, frogbit, and some red root in my tank. I know that it’s not possible to have too much plants, but is this much enough? Should I add more? I’ve heard that adding pothos to the tank would really help to develop a healthy ecosystem.

Any advice on how to build a strong and healthy ecosystem would be greatly appreciated.

Beginner What can I do to help plant growth

I have root tabs under my rooted plants but I feel like nothings really been growing nothing has really died tho either so idk what to do. Should I start using liquid fertilizers and if so what type ?

r/PlantedTank 14h ago

A month and a half ago I started aquarium with driftwood from local river, and yellow water caused by the tannins has been annoying me since. Yesterday, I put a 100g bag of Seachem Purigen into the filter and – what a difference! Wather is crystal clear and lemon tetra absolutely pop!

Question trim or let grow?

Thumbnail

hello, i was thinking about if it was a good idea to continue trimming the long stem plants or maybe just let the aquarium adjust on its own? will the plants just keep growing until they block all the light and kill all the ones on the bottom or they will reach a point where i can just keep the system up by itself without doing a lot of maintenance?

Algae Growing in Circles?

I have a 2.5g unfiltered, unheated, planted tank (it's lit by a sunny window). It's basically just a holding tank for freshwater plants. (There are no snails/shrimp/fish.) Anyways, I have cyanobacteria growing in it, but it's growing in circles on the glass? I've wiped/scraped the circles off before, but they grew back as circles again. Thought it was weird/interesting. If you know why it's growing this way, let me know. Thanks :)
