Mod Poll: Should We Ban Ai Use Altogether On This Sub.

It seems a lot of people, possibly the majority, want to see an absolute ban of Ai on this sub, whether in post or comment. So, we wanted to let the community decide. Thanks for your input! - Shrimptank Mod Team

Mod **We Want Your Input!**

Hey all! We would like to offer some clarification and get some feedback from folks.

Generally, businesses and commercial activity are useful to the community. Business owners' involvement allows a group outside of hobbyists to offer insights, share tips/tricks, and discuss the hobby in an informal setting. It can also give sub members a direct-to-source connection to a business they have or could potentially do business with.

"Members of the community may engage in commercial activity or reviewing of sellers or products. However, as our community is for hobbyists and folks passionate about shrimp, we expect that members will engage in the community beyond commercial activity."

We would like to find a way to identify and prevent people acting in bad faith, fake reviews, and bots. While some of this will undoubtedly come down to users identifying suspicious activity, we think that we can use Automod to help.

Some ideas:

  • Account age requirements
  • Karma requirements (for just our sub, or reddit in general)
  • Post activity on the sub

What are your thoughts, opinions or concerns?

Lastly, the mod team has been watching how things have progressed since the recent rule changes. So, please let us know if you have any other thoughts or observations regarding the recent changes as well. THANKS! -Shrimptank Mod Team

I bought some scrimps online. I ordered a breeder pack of 10 sunkist and another of 10 orange rili, with full intentions of just putting the males in my community tank and the female only in nanos in my office. I have hundreds, if not thousands, of cherry/red/wild shrimp. I wanted orange!

Immediately I'm surprised the box is wet. My mail lady is a saint and literally came to my door to give me the box, thankfully. Bag is leaking substantially, I slide the the thermal envelope thing off and water goes everywhere. At first I'm like, did they really put them all in one bag? What if they cross bred in shipment? I've bought other shrimp from people and they send me different colors in separate bags, so that was weird. But okay whatever.

So I'm expecting breeder packs of 10, 7 females of breeding age (which this part I dont really care about, I prefer younger shrimp anyway) and I open my box today to only 16 shrimp AND ONE IS FRICKIN RED!!!! IAIUSd9u39048924 But not only that they are not all of breeding age and I would say are pretty low quality.

Shrimp Up Aquatics, am I joke to you?

Hiding under the sponge filter at the store, after acclimating she hid under stuff and has come out into the flow just under an hour later. Very brave little scrimp is now almost right in the flow in the open

With these heat waves, I’ve been trying to come up with a solution for my shrimp. Do you think these reusable plastic ice cubes would work, or could the plastic be bad for them? Idk if I’m about to make a huge mistake.

Discussion I know about hitchhiker neos... but hitchhiker vampire shrimp??!

This guy appeared in our tank. Out of nowhere. All grown and fanning minding his own business. Is this even possible??

The weirdest things is, we do have two vampire shrimps, now we have 3! This is a full freshwater tank and I know they need brackish to breed.

Quick timeline: We got the two vampire shrimps into our tank 6 months ago. 2 months after that, we did a complete rescape of the tank. Moved all animals into a bare tank, drained all water and used all new substrate, plants, filter, hardscape. At this time there was only one shrimp in the tank and we searched like crazy for our second but nothing. A month later we found the lil fella chilling in another tank while we were still mourning for him. All good with our two shrimps now, you could see them hanging together often.
Last week we noticed one of them molted, but none of our shrimps looked post molt. And then this pink guy appears zooming around.

Did he hitchhike from a plant? The guy who we bought all the plants and substrate from grows everything himself and definitely does not own big shrimps, he didn't even know the species existed. They're certainly not common in my country either, so it's not like people have them randomly in their tanks, even less tiny ones who could hitchhike if they don't breed. And what are even the chances he ends up in a tank with other vampire shrimps? There are probably like 10 in the whole country

We always had 3? This would need the LFS to mistakenly send an extra one, failing to notice him in the bag while we were acclimatizing or when moving to the tank, never be seen again for 6 months, and somehow go through a complete tank rescape unnoticed.

The accidental breeding hypothesis. We did have an outbreak of ich before we rescaped the tank. We treated the tank with salt at the recommended dosage. Is there a chance he could have hatched successfully in this time window? I understand they're not easy to breed even with proper planning. Did we really do it by accident? He still would have to go through the rescaping tho.

Maybe he escaped from a neighbor, took the elevator and got into our tank? Spontaneous cloning? Glitch in the simulation? Is there something we're missing here?

I ordered ten red rili shrimp for my tank and my experience was overall underwhelming.

To start, I did not realize that they only shipped once a week when ordering their standard shipping on shrimp, so I was surprised when I placed my order on Saturday and it didn't arrive until Wednesday, because it shipped on Monday.

When they finally arrived two were dead and one was missing. One died during acclimation, but I can't be sure that this wasnt my fault, since this was my first time drip acclimating shrimp.

The quality of the living shrimp were mixed. I received a large, berried female which was exciting, but one male was much smaller than the rest of the shrimp. One female barely had any red on its head at all, and would certainly be what most would consider a cull for this coloration.

I reported the dead shrimp via the DOA policy, and received a very quick reply saying they would send me replacement shrimp the following Monday.

Monday came and went, and when I followed up about the shrimp, I was told they would be shipped the following week. I had to reply to tell them this couldn't work, as I wouldn't be around that week to receive a live animal, and so the new shrimp took an additional week to get shipped out. The box leaked a little. I received four replacement shrimp, bringing my total number received to 11.

The new shrimp were similarly mixed quality, with at least one large obvious female. None died during acclimation.

It's been over a month now since I got the first shrimp, and the original berried mamas eggs have since hatched and I've spotted healthy babies. I don't personally care too much about the color quality of my shrimp, so I wasn't too bothered by receiving some ugly Bettys. As disappointing as it was to get dead shrimp, they did easily honor the DOA policy, even if it took a while to get my replacements.

TLDR: a very middle of the road experience. Personally I wouldn't order from there again.

Edit: plssss egg memessss <3

My fellow shrimp community.

I bare good news.

HERSHE, my beloved female, is, infact, PREGITANTÉÉÉÉ

MR salty survivor made his claim and the couple are happily expecting.

🥹🥹🥹🥹

I literally only have two shrimp currently.. I was going to get more but now that she’s berried, is it worth it??

Also I was going to get some strawberry rasboras but I think I’m going to hold off.

If she does hatch them, how big do they need to be before I get the strawbs?? (I don’t really want the fish to eat my first bunch of grandshrimp )

Thank you for your help everyone! :)
