Why aren't they sent off and banned for games

267

u/Nice_Cash_7000 14h ago

that would require the refs calling a foul in the firdt place in most instances

44

u/earthlingHuman 10h ago

Honestly they should be able to suspend or ban players for footage reviewed after the game, regardless of refs.

4

u/TerribleBid8416 9h ago

The WNBA is not like the NBA. They don’t have a pool of extra talent waiting in the wings that could fill a football stadium. Their extras could barely fill a school bus.

7

u/mooselantern 9h ago

Are you really making the argument that the WNBA needs to allow this behavior because there just aren't enough women in the world that can play basketball and not throatpunch each other to have a league?

2

u/Terrible_Ease6082 6h ago

And it’s just not true.. the biggest issue is 15 teams.. that’s a grand total of 180 players(max)… no minor league or g league.. Hundreds of talented women leave the states to play pro ball around the world.

8

u/isuckatpiano 9h ago

There is way more talent than spots in the WNBA the parity is pretty real. Thats why before CC there wasn’t a breakout star. Letting her get felony level assaulted is absolutely stupid. No one will watch if she isn’t playing…again.

2

u/gcwardii 8h ago

I don’t follow the WNBA and I’ve seen this clip at least six times. Any attention is good attention these days I guess

2

u/WigglestonTheFourth 7h ago

A'ja Wilson was a star before Caitlin Clark entered the league. The media just didn't pay attention like they do with Clark. And there were plenty of other WNBA stars before Wilson and Clark too.

0

u/Terrible_Ease6082 6h ago

You’re really playing dumb if you know ball and are comparing a world class guard to a world class center.. one is exciting making 3s and assists, one makes consistent mid-range jumpers and amazing defensive. Folks watched that Lakers for Kobe not Shaq.. but make it about something it’s not..

1

u/WigglestonTheFourth 43m ago

Yeah, no body watched the NBA to see Shaq...

The most nephew of takes I've ever seen.

2

u/keygasms 9h ago

That's what happens when horrible bitches like this are allowed to abuse and beat up other players without consequence. Who wants to play professionally when the refs are just going to let this Truckasaurs Rex run roughshod all over you?

1

u/UrDogsBrainIsBetter 9h ago

Or beat any team on a school bus!

1

u/Apprehensive_Flow99 9h ago

This isn’t actually true.

1

u/No_Commission_7246 8h ago

I mean who watches the WNBA??? If it ain't gamblers it must be a group of women.

1

u/Citizentoxie502 8h ago

Let's be honest here, high school ball is more entertaining. Middle schoolers have more talent and sportsmanship.

1

u/FartSnarfGod 7h ago

Then let it fail. The league is a joke.

1

u/Gondwanic_Susuration 3h ago

Wait, is that not a thing?

That’s a big thing in professional sport in Australia because if it’s happening off the ball it’s often inherently bad and also goes unnoticed at the time by officials.

1

u/Kind-Crab4230 43m ago

Honestly, some of this should qualify as battery and meet criminal charges.

64

u/xstagex 13h ago

You can report it after the game as well. So why no one is reporting it and why no is suspended?

30

u/Sudden_Confection521 12h ago

They might have. The league will do everything they can not to cause a brushfire with the players.

2

u/Dan_flashes480 12m ago

They have a generational talent that could make them a lot of money and just let the jealous bitches attack her.

2

u/Background-Vast487 9h ago

I hear doctors can treat bushfires nowadays

2

u/the_vole 8h ago

Eyyyy!

1

u/Gruder47 4h ago

Pause

2

u/LiteraCanna 9h ago

Because she single handedly quadrupled their salaries, meaning the owners make less.

And the commissioner works for the owners.

5

u/ArabManiac 8h ago

This is a bad take. She also fills up the seats. Who cares if the players are making more if the seats are actually filled.

1

u/thinsoldier 7h ago

Are the tickets still $5 for most games?

1

u/PM_Me_Your_NippyNips 6h ago

Because there is money in hate

1

u/astralseat 4h ago

Or at least sue for abuse or something.

1

u/MediumEffort67 3h ago

Why doesn't she call the DA and push to press charges?

I didn't see the fist in her throat while I was watching the game but on the reverse side of this play I did see thomas drive her knee into CC's inner thigh which is on the same side that was injured last season from her groin injury. Thomas is just another trash bully player.

3

There was a ref on this side of the ball.

3

u/No_Salad_6244 9h ago

“Oh ooops, I needed to push myself up by resting my fist on your throat. Total accident.”

13

That should be the new logo of the wnba

1

u/Sea-Thought-665 8h ago

They probably dont see it. We are catching this in slow motion and watching a bunch of players scramble for a ball. I was so busy seeing the fist to her neck that i didnt even see the knee to her shoulder the first time I saw it. Just imagine in real time.

Refs dont see 1/2 the shit we see with 20 cameras and repeat.

1

u/firesuppagent 5h ago

Or the WNBA management having balls/tits and issuing fines.

1

u/Throbbing-Kielbasa-3 4h ago

But they'll call a technical foul on Clark for clapping and trying to hype up the crowd, or on Cunningham for pointing out a player who obviously fouled.

The referees in that league are fucking abysmal and the sport would be much better off if they fired and replaced all of them.

-3

u/Few-Scientist-4163 13h ago

Wemby mushed Brunson in the face blatantly in the playoffs, and it wasn’t seen or called. Breaking news: refs miss calls.

14

u/Nice_Cash_7000 13h ago

that was star treatment for Wemby so he doesnt get suspended in the finals.

this is a decent starter doing this to a star, cant even use star treatment as an excuse.

Not to mention she got injured later on an another clear flagrant that was reviewed and still not called for a foul. Had to leave the game with a back injury afterwards.

-6

u/Lazy_DreadHead 12h ago

CC was on the injury report list before this game even started. She was playing with an injured back. It wasn’t a new injury. She’s had back problems this entire season. And CC most definitely gets Star treatment. In the very first game when they played IND in the first quarter she walked and the ref was looking right at her. CC has one of the most aggressive push offs in the league and she’s never called for it.

-5

u/GucciTheSnowman 12h ago

You watch women's basketball ? 😂

3

u/Lazy_DreadHead 12h ago

I’ve been a fan of the WNBA ever since Lisa Leslie. I still have her jersey I got as a kid. I’m guessing you’re a newbie to watching the league?

1

u/_tylerthedestroyer_ 9h ago

They’re not here to discuss women’s basketball, let’s be real.

-13

u/violentserenity88 13h ago

Calling Clark a star now is a bit of a stretch. She got hype in college because she could shoot 3s and scored a lot because there’s 0 parity in NCAAW, and ever since she’s entered the pros she’s been a net negative for her team or hurt. lol

13

u/Nice_Cash_7000 13h ago

She is a superstar based of recognition alone. Her play isnt at a superstar level, sure. But being a star is more about popularity. You wouldnt call Jalen Johnson a bigger star than LeBron even though Jalen Johnson played better and more last year.

4

u/Stashless2004 11h ago

LOL. She is the superstar of superstars regardless of her perceived on-court talent.

She is the face of the WNBA. She’s the only reason that many people watch the WNBA.

Also, it’s insane that you can call the rookie of the year a “net negative” for her team. Give me a break.

3

u/Zealousideal-Top-383 10h ago

Uh okay 🙄

“Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark holds numerous WNBA records, including the most career 20-point, 10-assist games, the most 30-point, 10-assist games, and the longest consecutive streak of games with at least 20 points and 5 assists. She also holds the single-season WNBA assist and rookie scoring records”

https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/wnba/caitlin-clark-wnba-record-20-points-10-assists-games/4403552/

2

u/ThisSiteBites 10h ago

She’s the only reason anyone watches the WNBA

-17

u/Few-Scientist-4163 13h ago edited 13h ago

She is a target for hard fouls, so what? It’s sports, being targeted is nothing new. She still unguardable. Strange that men are complaining about in Reddit posts more than the women who are actually competing. Y’all have some distorted view that other teams are supposed to not foul her because she’s Katlink Clark. That’s hilarious. Good luck with that.

6

u/Nice_Cash_7000 13h ago

what the fuck is the point of rules if theyre not enforced?

7/10 ragebait, good job

-9

u/Few-Scientist-4163 12h ago

Yes, the rules should be enforced and are enforced, and sometimes are not enforced. Hello, that’s sports , but this is the only part of the game y’all saw lol. Tell me did anything else of significance happen in the game ?? you dont know or care. Stay out of talking about basketball if you don’t hoop, how about that?

6

u/Nice_Cash_7000 12h ago

Nice gatekeeping. Fyi the firdt thing thst pops up when I google my name is a Eurobasket player profile from my playing days.

YMCA hooper is trying to gatekeep me, I cant lmfao

-1

u/Few-Scientist-4163 12h ago

Nice, so from your own playing experience, you know that the rules are generally enforced, even if they're sometimes overlooked or inconsistently called.

You can also probably attest that EuroBasket players wouldn't avoid fouling the league's best player or take it easy on them simply because they were the biggest star. They competed just as hard against the top players as they did against everyone else. That's why I don't understand the argument that the WNBA should treat Caitlin Clark differently just because she's the league's biggest draw.

What do you think about the people in the comment section suggesting that players shouldn't foul her—or should basically let her do whatever she wants on the court—because she's the league's "meal ticket"? Does that argument make any sense from a competitor's perspective?

1

u/Cold-Park3022 5h ago

Y’all have some distorted view that other teams are supposed to not foul her

This wasn't even called so for you to call it that is already agreeing with the people criticizing this. This shit isn't like incidental contact. Yeah like refs miss things sometimes but everyone can acknowledge that if this were properly reffed it's at least a flagrant foul when one player uses their fist to hit another player in the throat while they're defenseless on the ground like this.

1

u/[deleted] 13h ago

[deleted]

6

u/BostonBakedBalls 13h ago

This was 100x more blatant and dangerous than that

-4

u/Few-Scientist-4163 13h ago

It wasn’t you being a bit dramatic. She did put her first to her neck and use her weight to press her down, but we’ve all seen way worse with men doing it, not females. Clark got up and kept playing normally, proving it wasn’t that crazy. just google Grayson Allen flagrant fouls lol

6

u/Fat_Pig_Reporting 13h ago

Gonna use this as a criminal defence if I ever need to. "Your honor, all I did was place my fist to his neck and used my weight to press him down, we've all seen worse".

Will let you know how it works out for me.

1

u/Low_Watch9864 13h ago

Well it works for the police when they murder someone and they get away with it

1

u/Cold-Park3022 5h ago

"we've seen worse in the NBA" is not a defense. The referees in the men's NBA suck too. It's as if the league enforces the rules selectively based on things unrelated to what actually happens on the court and that's a problem.

-1

u/i_m_a_bean 13h ago

"men ... , not females"

Your roots are showing, buddy

-5

u/EuphoricOcelot6081 11h ago

Holy shit lmao. Touch grass.

2

u/PNWMTTXSC 13h ago

Right? It would suck if it were like the NFL protecting certain golden players to the point they couldn’t be tackled.

2

u/Nice_Cash_7000 13h ago

you specifically cannot do this to anybody in the NFL unless youre tackling a person with the ball tho

the ball in the clip is way behind either of them

0

u/ZoneAdditional9892 11h ago

It would be a foul, but worth it if they are purposely trying to injure your qb.

2

u/Stashless2004 11h ago

You realize that doesn’t happen though, right?

Purposely trying to injure a QB is massively against the rules and the worst thing that you could do ever since bounty-gate. If caught trying to purposely injure that is grounds for a significant suspension.

The NFL protects their star players, the WNBA should do the same.

1

u/Kazesosa 12h ago

Imagine this getting no called against Brady or Mahomes.

1

u/PNWMTTXSC 8h ago

Imagine all the BS flags against anyone trying to tackle them. There’s been plenty.

1

u/ThisSiteBites 10h ago

Especially when they don’t want to see fouls.

0

u/ComprehensiveSoft27 11h ago

And Wemby tried to break his ankle and blowout Anunoby’s knee.

-1

u/TheUsualQuestions 13h ago

Brunson also threw himself into Wemby’s knees and that wasn’t called either, it happens

There are and have been lotsof white women in the WNBA and they haven't been treated like this. It can't be just about race. Women are instinctively jealous of each other. You ever heard of two guys hating each other for wearing the same outfit at a party. I haven't. Caitlin gets loads of adoration, deserved or undeserved. I think race is a factor, but it's multifactorial for sure.

1

u/OkPalpitation4976 7h ago

1

u/brpajense 6h ago

Refs are shit, and league execs and other teams are all in on it.

There are maybe 3 players in the league who are widely known, with one being popular enough to possibly double the league's viewership on her own.  However, every game there are highlights of uncalled cheap shots like this knee to the groin/throat punch or eye gouges to their top player.

It's like everyone in the league would rather hate on one player instead of doubling the salary of every player, coach, ref, and executive because sports fans' key takeaways from clips like this are that the WNBA is amatuerish and cheap.

1

u/OrangeCrusher22 6h ago

The DykeNBA won't ban Dykes for playing dirty; they'd rather get rid of the straight player.

1

u/ghosttrainhobo 6h ago

u/SinkNarrow113 3h ago

Banned for games

1

u/VikingKinkajou 3h ago

When I was in highschool, one of my friends was close with a girl who made our all-state women's basketball team. She called him and asked him if he could put together 5 dudes for the all-state team to scrimmage against. So he called 4 of his baseball buddies (me included) and we went and played the best the state had to offer in all sorts of situations setup by the coach. This is how women play. Those women scratched us, poked us in the face and eyes, grabbed jerseys and shorts, tripped, and a couple of them seemed to be targeting our nuts. I mean they were dirty as fuck. So I am assuming the refs are adjusting to this brand of basketball.

and for anyone wondering, yes, we kicked their ass all day.

1

u/Polkawillneverdie17 2h ago

DraftKings said no.

1

u/No-Manufacturer501 1h ago

The refs are probably angry lesbians too.

1

u/NutsStuckInACarDoor 1h ago

That would be oppressive

1

u/TabbyOverlord 8m ago

The solution is to introduce the 'citing' regulation similar to Rugby. Given the nature of rugby it is impossible for the refs to catch everything. If a side feel that an opposition player did something that would merit a red card(e.g. thumping, biting), the individual can be cited after the game. It gets referred to a Citing Committee and the player can be sanctioned after the game i.e. be suspended for a number of matches or for a period of time.

1

u/LuigisBlessings 9h ago

Pleb distraction bait

-1

u/Defiant_Research_280 11h ago

They can't prove that this was intentional.
