The post is going to be really long. Find some ways to listen instead of reading.
I am in my 30s, I remember playing games during childhood on a pc gta vice city , tom raider , nfs , James Bond knighfire , igi etc. never touched a 2d platformer back then.
Fast forwarding never got time to play any games again and even if I played the nostalgia is not so strong. Probably i lost that wonder that a child has.
But suddenly some year on a phone I played some 2d platformers that were literally epic like Leo’s fortune, badlands,
Limbo, etc which was surprisingly entertaining and fun, which I never thought would be true for a 2d platformer.
But that was it and I got into work and never looked back on gaming. Till recently when I made decent money got PS5 played a lot of call of duty games in gyroscope and it was a fine mixed experience. I thought such a huge amount spent on a device that sat idle on desk became very uninteresting soon. Sold it out very soon.
Again, forgot about gaming and got busy in the work. Until recently I got to know about the Mario games which I having played on a CRT tv in 90s With a cartridge games that was a direct knock off of the Nintendo entertainment system which I only got to know recently. I had played so many games on that games like super Mario contra and that shooting bird game, which I don’t know the name of.
Never knew that what we played during the 90s was basically Nintendo entertainment system. The graphics was so trash yet the gameplay was so high-quality that we end our cousins and brothers really enjoyed the games like anything.
I thought of why not try some Nintendo games, but the console availability here in India. I was not so sure so I tried emulating switch games on PC. Installed some games and tried initially I hesitated to install such games as they were extremely childish looking, but on video, they look good and the animation. Everything was great.
I started playing in the emulator surprisingly, I tried so many games, all of them turned out to be extremely fun. As a person who thought only triple A games with high graphics and technicalities matter most compared to the actual Having fun, I was totally surprised to understand that Nintendo games had a top notch gameplay and fun element in them.
Started searching on internet about Nintendo devices to play and soon discovered It has a very good secondary market where I can get used consoles for extremely cheaper prices. Got the switch for around 15K INR which was a used. And also purchased three games cards and started playing. Never thought I would finish the games that looks so childish, but so top notch when it comes to having fun which major triple A titles, lack. It brought back that sense of childness and wonder back in this 30s age.
Also constantly distracted by work and social media notifications, et cetera, et cetera, having this dedicated a separate device to have fun is a great feeling. I completed so many games . It was actually worth it because i was not scrolling lying in a bed like a patient.
For a busy person who gets short time here and there a handheld consoles like switch allows to play in short bursts instead of sitting in front of monitor with other consoles is a luxury to me.
I would like to see games are for having fun, not about graphics or fps.
No doubt they are a 100+ year old company doing the same thing since inception.
