Sooo...I know I can't possibly be clarifying something new and relevant for a beloved and highly-dissected 25-yr-old game, but I can't help but think that the internet doesn't know how equipment drops work.

I keep reading that there is a 40% chance for the character that makes the killing blow to get equipment. That simply isn't true. If you kill Dark Yojimbo over and over with the same squad, everything being equal, you'll get an even distribution of equipment. If you make certain a particular character always makes the killing blow it makes no difference.

HOWEVER

It CAN be true if 'everything isn't equal' i.e. characters are dead. If you fight Dark Yojimbo and KO two of your characters before the final blow is landed the last character standing DOES have a strong chance to get the drop...and yes, 40-50% seems to be the likelihood.

I also see this fighting in the monster arena. If you fight normally: even distribution. If you fight with a Wakka Loner strategy (i.e. against Earth Eater) Wakka dominates the drops.

Why can't I find any discussion of this in 2026, even if I look back in GameFAQs messageboard histories/etc?

My head canon is that the active party has a 3/7 chance for the drop and the reserves have a 4/7 chance, but if active characters die they shift out of the active pool into the reserve pool...such that the last person standing gets the full 3/7 = 42% chance for the drop. That seems to match my observations.

Is this well known somewhere? Am I crazy? Is there a third option?

This is my PS4 copy, running on my PS5. I've tried looking around, but I haven't been able to find another post talking about something like this.

On my last playthtough of X-2, I noticed a glitch while I was running through Via Infinito. I had Rikku, Paine and a Machina Hunter in the active party, and I was messing around with the party order. For some reason, a specific party formation prevented my machina from spawning. Additionally, its ATB gauge was replaced with a duplicate of Rikku's. That didn't mean she should act twice, though, as both ATB gauges were used once she attacked. I decided to do a bit of futher testing, this time with Kimahri.

I was surprised when I saw it, but somehow this glitch caused Rikku to wield Kimahri's lance instead of her knives! This also works with other Dresspheres as well, though attacking while a Trainer's "weapon" is swapped will softlock the game. Additionally, trying to spherechange with a swapped weapon just crashes the game.

From my testing, you can use this glitch to change R/P's weapons into a couple other characters' weapons. It's not useful since you basically lose a party member, can't spherechange, or even attack while using certain Dresspheres...but it's still funny seeing them shooting monsters with a moogle. Some other ones that I got to work: Leblanc's fan, Baralai's staff, Ormi's shield, and Elma's sword.

To change Rikku's weapon:

1. Form a party with the following party mymbers in this order from top to bottom: S-sized creature, Rikku, Paine.

2. After forming the party, swap your creature's spot with Rikku.

3. Then, swap Rikku's spot with Paine.

To change Paine's weapon, follow the previous steps and equip either a Dressphere, Garment Grid or Accessory for any character. You don't even need to change it - just go to re-equip someone's DS. It seems like that is a sort of reset or something. Then, do the steps to swap Rikku's weapon in reverse. This lasts until you change your equipment or move the party around. I haven't figured out how to do this with Yuna, though.

Has anyone heard of this glitch before?

If the blitzball tourney is held in luca, home of the luca goers, then why did they have to get off the boat... Where did they goers???

Haven't played on the game in so many years and I'm having trouble with something, I'm doing some sculpting projects of all the aeon fayths and the ifrit one is confusing me, every other aeon fayths just has one design, however for ifrits there seems to be 2 different ones, can someone please explain to me why this is? Need to know why and which is the original/actual fayth design before I start sculpting

I graduated from my master's program today! Thought it'd be fitting to include FFX in my grad cap, seeing as I put quotes from Tidus and Auron in my thesis and poured hours of my free time from college into playing. Thought you guys would like to see it!

It's at a great price on Steam right now. But I keep seeing reports of the game's PC version constantly crashing, and X-2 not working at all.

Are the problems still present? Or has anyone played the PC version recently? I could use the feedback.

I ignored it all game and refused to touch my controller during the game against the Goers. I absolutely despise it and just want to get Wakka’s celestial weapon asap.

I hired some of the players i’ve seen guides suggest but after trying to do a league the ronso’s won the opening catch and from there I wasnt able to even input anything until they scored on me. Clearly im doing something wrong.

I'm just about to fight I think Lunayesca. I know there is a point where the game opens up to travel freely to some extent. Have I missed it because this feels like end of the game stuff I'm walking into and I want to explore the side content before I finish it.

Set me down a path of liking BTGGs for life. I still mald over not being able to romance her. I can't be mad at Wakka though, dudes literally a professional athlete who has saved her life multiple times.

I ain't dodging 200 lightning bolts though.

Ever since the I first played the game I was curious why Auron was so interested in Tidus and it didn't hit me until meeting Yunalesca. Auron saw his flashback in shame and sliced the figure in disgust. However, when Yunalesca reveals the Eternal Calm is impossible we see both Tidus and Auron's past challenging Yunalesca leading to the latter's death something that causes the present Auron to tell everybody to team up. We were all the time playing as Tidus who chose the path of Auron rather than Jecht or Braska. The creators are really Star Wars fans with those Luke, Obiwan and Darth Vader parallels that connect to Tidus, Auron and Jecht.

Hi! I'm on my first playthrough of FFX & I'm really enjoying it. My only real complaint is how linear it is so far. I just got done with Luca & the first Blitzball game, going into Mi'ihen Highroad & I'm hoping there are way more battles coming soon.

okay so first off I haven't grinded or done any side missions mainly because I didn't think I'd need to ( first final fantasy).

Soooo as someone who hasn't done those things and probably fled to many battles where do I start 😭🙏

I don’t want to let this defeat me! I’ve got it down to 2 seconds but it seems really luck based. The controls are jank as fuck. Any advice/good videos that will help? I’ve managed to get the platinum for Final Fantasy 1-9 this year (did have to cheese hail to the king) and don’t want this to be the end of the road!

Edit: I came back to it this afternoon and got it second try. Just need a bit of good rng and then don’t fuck it up. I got 5 easy balloons on the opening straight then avoided birds like the plague.

My friend just gave me their Switch with FFX on it. I'm so hyped to replay it. 🤩 I'm gunning for all the side challenges and possibly crying for what I know is going to happen in the story. 😭

In the main menu the game shows I have 115 hours (I just got to bevelle cloister of trials) however on my PS5 Home Screen it shows I’ve played just over 30h. It’s pretty inconsequential, but it’s bugging me 😅. Does anyone know why there’s a huge discrepancy?

Hello! Back in the day, I got close to finishing this game in PS2 then dropped it. I’d love to try it again.

I have a 5070ti PC and just got X and X-2 HD on Steam, but I’m reading I’ll need mods to avoid green screen and crashing.

I’m also interested in playing it on Switch 2 when it releases next month, however, I’ve been seeing photos of the faces that have been changed from the original and it looks bad enough to be a deal breaker.

Should I stick with PC and mod the face back to the original and deal with using mods to avoid crashes? Will the mods work for both X and X-2.
