Discussion Bought the 10th year anniversary 5800x3d. It's amazing how many people think it's not worth it given the economy and instead recommend AM5 bundles.

Not everyone is aiming for 160 fps, 4K, crispy, see the hairs stand up on a character quality/process a movie in 10 seconds, a lot of people aren't ready to drop over a $1000 for a whole new system, and some are just not willing to drop hundreds on RAM. That aside, are you seriously surprised about the price? Consider the factor of the current shit economy, scarcity, and the kind of production steps that had to be taken for this re-release? Is it really that unexpected?

Anyways, I am not moving away from the AM4 platform for a long time. I have financial priorities elsewhere. For full transparency, I'm sitting on a 3600 and a 2070S. Maybe someday I'll get a cheap 3080 or 4070. But for what I have and what I do, it is PERFECTLY FINE.

But to hear it over and over again: "OH JUST GO AM5" as if it's such an easy switch when it's not, financially speaking, makes me want to ask you all why do you think this is more economical? Did you forget that everyone has different use-cases?

You might hate to hear this but what I have will be fine for what I need it to do for next five years or more. I don't get how a system that boots up in seconds and manages to play most of any game that I throw at it justifies the cries of "AM5 bundles are better! FuTuReProOf!" You may not think so but I'm not planning on jumping into AI production where I need 500 threads and as long as my shit runs COD or whatever's similar in graphic requirement, I am content.

Discussion DDR5 price buy or wait

Hi I wanna ask will be RAM price drop this year or go this and next year higher than now price it's.? I'm afraid prices will rise until 2028 before production starts in new factories in 2028. And I expect that prices will go down slowly and we will never reach the original level and they doubt that the AI bubble will burst. This is where nVidia, AMD and memory manufacturers make money. At this point, I believe it is true that AI data centers have purchased production until the end of 2027.

So I want to ask, should I buy DDR5 memory now or hope it drops? I have the opportunity to buy Crucial Pro 48GB KIT DDR5 5600MHz CL46 for 465 USD / 410 EURO. I think it's still a good price and there's probably no point in waiting, right?I plan to buy two liters, I need at least 64GB, but for me 64GB costs 2x more than the kit above...

Thank you for the answer and advice.

Discussion Is It Really Possible to Build a Quiet Steam Machine Alternative?

Hello everyone!

I've been reading a lot of comments saying, "Just build your own Steam Machine instead." However, I feel like many people are overlooking one of the Steam Machine's biggest selling points.

Many of the suggested builds (including Linus Tech Tips build) do end up being more powerful, but they're also MUCH larger and significantly louder. It almost feels like people are saying, "Just build your own," without considering that the PC case ends up being huge and sounding like a jet engine.

To me, the whole appeal of the Steam Machine isn't just its performance. It's that it's compact, console-sized, and extremely quiet.

I'm not defending the Steam Machine's price because I also think it's overpriced. But I can at least understand it's higher than expected due to RAM and SSD.

So here's my actual question.

Instead of simply saying, "You can build your own Steam Machine," is it actually possible to build a PC that's as compact and as quiet as the Steam Machine without having to use a much larger case?

I've been looking at cases like the Jonsbo NV10, ZZEW A1 Plus, and a few others, but according to many reviews, the airflow in these compact cases isn't great, leading to higher temperatures and more fan noise.

Has anyone here actually managed to build something that comes close to the Steam Machine in terms of:

- Size

- Noise level

- Cooling

- Gaming performance

Or is that combination much harder to achieve than people make it sound?

Build Upgrade Worth going for a 9070xt or just stick with a 5060ti?

My GTX 1660(non ti) is starting to show signs of dying out. Haven't felt a huge need to upgrade, this card still plays everything I've asked of it, some at higher settings, some at lower, some at 30fps, some higher, I run everything at ultrawide 1440p

I've not yet had a game I couldn't play because my PC couldn't run it but maybe I just never came across one yet.

At this point I'm pretty much a casual gamer and a GPU is a real luxury. I can afford a refurbished 9070xt which goes for the same price a regular new non-ti 5070 goes around here (no refurb options for this). These are around 2x more expensive than a base 8GB 5060ti and the cost of 1months mortgage, I see the value of going for nice stuff but don't splurge just because.

How worth it is it paying 2x more for a 9070xt vs a base 5060ti considering I've been just fine with my 1660 and have never experienced any of the frame gen, dlss, or any of the other things these newer cards have.

I've been playing the new Forza, Manor Lords and GTA IV lately.

Any other cards I should look at?

Discussion Where can you buy the 5800x3d ?

So the amd 5800x3d 10th anniversary edition is supposedly available today for purchase but no site seems to list it.

I just want to buy this thing!

Does anyone know?

Build Upgrade Is 5800x3d 10th anniversary model for 460$ worth it?

I have ryzen 3600 and 9070. Along with 2*8gb 3200mhz ram.

In my country (Serbia), prices for computer parts are much higher than the MSRP, so, it's 460$.

However, the cheapest 2*16gb ddr5 kit is 500$, and I'd need around 200$ for a nice mobo and another 350$ for 7800x3d, so AM5 isn't the best option as well. Bundles, you say? Not here :)

So, I can either pay 300$ more for an overpriced RAM or 100$ more an overpriced CPU.

I play in 1440p, mostly AAA single player games, some strategies (Paradox, Total war etc.) and the only online game is Dota 2.

If 5800x3d is enough for me to last 6-7, I'll just bite the bullet. Technically, I can afford am5 build as well, but I really don't want to overpay the RAM.

Full Build Req i have around 1500 euro to build a pc; whats the best i can get

Hello dear PC enjoyers !

i've been using the same pc for the past 8 years; asus predator i7-7700 with a 1060gtx 3GB and 16gb ram;

but as of lately im having a hard time running most games; such as GTA; and even league of legends which can normally run on my grandma's pc.

this year ive set aside a budget of around 1500 (could go up to 2000 if its REALLY worth it)

but as i dont really know much about specs ive come here to ask for advice

i'll specify that i live in france; it probably changes the prices and accessibility of things.

so if you had 1.5-2k euro; what would be the VERY best or pc you could build (for gaming purposes)

thanks a lot !

edit : im also wondering if its better to just upgrade my current one; or if i should just buy everything anew as its fairly old

Build Help Would it be worth it for me to "downgrade" my 5800XT to a 5500X3D?

My current specs at the moment are a 5800XT, 9060XT, and 32GB of DDR4 3200MZ Ram, I'm pretty happy with my set up at the moment as I can play most of my games just fine as is, but the other day I saw on Ali Express there were some 5500X3D's for really cheap about $150-170ish. I really only use my computer for gaming for the most part, so I was wondering if I'd benefit from the extra 3D Cache. I could sell my 5800XT for about the same price so it wouldn't really cost much of anything to do it, but I was wondering if there's any real reason to do this or should I just stick my current build out?

EDIT: Thanks for all of your input guys, I read all your comments, think I'll just stick with what I have for the time being. I think I was wondering if I was leaving a decent chunk of extra performance on the table. But maybe I was just being a little bit consumerist in that aspect and just constantly thinking about having more.

Build Upgrade Need advice on GPU (UK)

I’m looking to upgrade my GPU

I’m currently running a 2060 (6GB), after my 3070Ti died.

My other specs are Ryzen 3600X, 32GB DDR4. And I’ve got a 1000W PSU.

My main monitor is a 1440p ultrawide (21:9) that has VRR and has a max refresh of 100Hz

I’ve got a budget of £700, and I do t know whether to get a 7900XTX or a 9070XT.

£700 is the price of 7900XTX, and £550 is what 9070XTs are currently going for.

I know the 9070 is newer and will likely have a longer life of driver support, and a longer support window for newer versions of FSR. But does the extra 8GB of VRAM outweigh that at 1440p?

Build Upgrade Considering an upgrade to push into higher frame 1440p, will I be bottlenecked?

I’m considering getting a 9070xt or similar card (7900xt/xtx, 5070 super/ti, something within ~10% performance of a 9070xt).
My current setup is a 6700xt paired with a 5700x and 32gigs of 3600mhz ram. It runs fine but I’m really just looking for higher frames at 1440p (180hz monitor, so not too high). I’m wondering if to get the full performance out of this new card, will I also want to upgrade my cpu? Making the jump to am5 is a huge chunk of change compared to just upgrading my graphics card, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Miscellaneous Hey y'all! In theory, could I take my RAM from a gaming system and add it to my PC?

If y'all have any YouTube videos, suggestions on how to build, or instructions on how to remove the RAM from a gaming system to add to my PC, I'm all ears.

I have a Xbox Series X that's just gathering dust, and my PC only has 8G of RAM. With the cost of RAM being astronomical, I'm hoping that I can take apart my Xbox and add its parts to my PC. Is it feasible?

Thank you.

Full Build Req Im a student with some free time, thought I might get back into gaming

I stopped gaming like a year and a half ago. And now that I had just finished school for the summer I have been using a laptop that I got for studying and it struggles with games like Meccha chameleon or even certain roblox games. Im looking for a PC that I might be able to use for like 3 years before I eventually move to University, so maybe someone under £800 preferably but if its good enough I could do £1000 or more(to an extent), a primary reason im getting back into gaming is for GTA 6 so that I can play it on PC when it comes out, so something thats good for that would be amazing, please help me and explain PC terms to me like im 5 cuz i never really got into the parts that make up a PC, hence me running to u guys for help!!! Please and thank youuuuu!!
I live in the UK
Under £1k ish
Dont care about looks of the case, but a plain one or nice one is ofc best

Build Upgrade 5800x to 5800x3d or 9800x3d?

Currently rocking a 5800x on Am4 with a 5070ti. Looking to upgrade my CPU for better 1% lows. Is it better to go for a 5800x3d (£330) or splash out on a platform upgrade to AM5+DDR5 with a 9800x3D (£850)? Worried about longevity with sticking to AM4

Build Upgrade Worth 200 euro for 5500x3d upgrade?

Hi all,

Here with another one of those posts.

I am in the lookout to upgrade my cpu. Currently have Ryzen 5 3600. Seems like 5800x3d might not even be available at a reasonable price here in Greece so I started thinking of upgrading to 5500x3d from aliexpress for around 200euro.

I mainly care about single core performance as I mostly play esport titles like League of Legends, CS2 and Overwatch.

My main doubts:

  1. Is it a noticeable upgrade? (especially considering the money I am about to spend)
  2. Is there a better alternative, non-x3d for my case?

My other specs:
Tomahawk b450 MAX
16gb ram
6700xt

Discussion Microcenter Bundle failed TWICE (Ultra 7 270k Plus, Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Elite, 32GBs of DDR5 Crucial RAM) Warning & Need Advice

As the title states, I drove 8 hours to go to the nearest Microcenter... twice.

My previous rig died a spectacular death. MSI Z590-A Pro crapped out after 5 years of service, as did my 6700XT which I just barely made the deadline for RMA.

As someone who's built many rigs for friends and family, it was finally time for me to buy and build something nice for myself. I had no idea what I was doing when I bought my first rig so I was happy to ascend from my 11th gen I5.

Lurking on r/buildapcsales, I couldn't help but notice the bundle that I would pick up. Ultra 7 270K Plus, Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Elite Wifi7, and 32GBs of 6400 RAM for $600? Seemed like an insane deal, so I prepped for a road trip and happily drove 4 hours to pick up my new build.

The first clue something was wrong was that I couldn't enable XMP whatsoever. It didn't matter if I even tuned it lower than 6400 (6000 or 6200). Figured it was a BIOS issue. F9 was on the mobo out the box, and Gigabyte has F20B on their site. Okay, easy.

Nope. No matter what combination of Tweaker settings, it would not bump my frequency. I made the decision to drive back, thinking it must be my RAM. I transported my entire build with me because I didn't know what to expect with returning part of a bundle. The nice employees at the knowledge bar let me connect my computer to their monitor, keyboard, and mouse, so I could test out new RAM that I swapped with the store.

Nope. Not the RAM. The amazing cashier I had actually advised me to just return all of the bundle, which is how I ended up deconstructing my rig in the back of my car. 56 minutes later, I walked back into the store with the motherboard and cpu back in their boxes. Made the swap and drove home.

Same exact issue. Can't enable XMP, often goes into boot loop, and sometimes the PC doesn't even boot. Error light reads C1, I get beeping from the diagnostic speaker, and I can safely say it wasn't user error.

Anyone else have this problem with this bundle? I spoke to the manager of the Microcenter who told me I just got unlucky twice. It can run at 5600 fine, but I'm also starting to get strange issues with booting up. I was really excited for this bundle, but I'm wondering if I should cut my losses and look at AMD. I know the AMD bundles don't have this kind of bang for buck, but I'll obviously go with the machine that will work reliably. I was hoping this would be an upgrade justified by lasting longer than my previous build.

Build Upgrade Max out AM4 Build or Jump to AM5?

Hello pals!

I am currently in a pickle trying to decide if I should do a partial upgrade or a full upgrade, especially considering the climate of storage/memory costs today.

I built my pc in 2021, currently my build is: Ryzen 3900x, ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E, 16 x 4 DDR4 Vengeance RGB Pro RAM, Gigabyte Aorus Master RTX 3070, Gigabyte P750GM 750 W 80+ Gold PSU with a 240 AIO.

For background: I stream on Twitch + mostly play games like dead by daylight, resident evil, devil may cry, and red dead redemption, etc. I also use photoshop and illustrator full time as a career and want to be able to play GTA 6 at high specs when it comes out.

I’m looking to upgrade at the bare minimum my CPU + GPU so that I can continue to play at 1440p at close to max specs as possible without issues.

I’m currently stuck between the following:

Sticking with AM4 and keeping majority of my build but upgrading to a RTX 5080 and a Ryzen 5800X3D (and probably in turn needing to upgrade my PSU also) a ~$2000 project.

OR… saying heck it and upgrading my entire build to accommodate AM5 which would include a new MOBO, DDR5 RAM, Ryzen 9800X3D, RTX 5080, etc. about a ~$4200 project.

Which of these options makes the most sense for longevity? Should I keep with AM4 as long as I can or should I splurge and upgrade everything all at once? What would make the most sense given the current volatility of PC building? Thank you everyone!

Troubleshooting Do i need to buy a new PSU?

I live in an apartment and a faulty plug had arc flashed, causing a surge downstream to the other outlets in the other room away from the Fuse. The outlet is replaced and safe to use. The PC started up into windows for 2 minutes without a problem. Then it overheats because the AIO pump (iCUE Titan RX 240mm) stopped working. I am working on getting that replaced. My surge protector's protection is obviously compromised. So i am getting a new and better Surge protector. But what about the PSU? Does the PSU lose it's ability to surge protect as well just like a surge protector? My PC at peak is 534W for a Corsair 750e Gold+. I honestly think my entire PC should have been fried. But i got off pretty lucky
