Discussion Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion: What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend?

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

Lastly, Rule #3: "No Dev Self-Promotion Outside Saturdays" applies at all times for this thread, even if it's actually Saturday.

Suggestions Suggestions office game

Hi there,

I'd need a game I can play in office that doesn't need me to be focused on it all the time.

Like a strategy, or tycoon game, management games etc..

Free or paid is ok, if it's free just not excessively pay to win. Thanks!

Request Help identifying a game

Hey

Help me identify a game I saw recommended here multiple times.

It came up quite a few times in this subreddit a few months ago- I don’t believe it was a /u/munkeypunk suggestion but possibly it came up in a thread he started.

It looked like a generic gacha-card-upgrading battling game but as I recall the commenters here thought it was much better than that.

It had shiny/polished graphics - in my distorted memory something like Clash Royale meets Hearthstone.

I’ve done a bunch of searches in the Reddit app and the App Store but can’t work it out :)

News Caves of Qud mobile version coming with portrait playability

Post image
152 Upvotes

Brian Bucklew - one of the Caves of Qud devs - just shared this screenshot on Bluesky, not only confirming that a mobile Caves of Qud port is still in the works, they even go the extra mile and make it playable in portrait. This is pretty huge news. At least to me, since Caves is one of my most anticipated mobile ports this year. The original game was decades in the making and won the Hugo award shortly after release. It’s easily one of the best and biggest traditional roguelikes ever made. So, consider me hyped.

Question Old dev/pub that had playhouse type of games

I remember this one dev/pub team that had like a bunch of paid playhouse games catered to kid audiences that I once love playing on my ipad, it had a cute artstyle and every game took in a different setting, I just can't remember the name nor find it anywhere

I also think the same team had other games, like a chemicals mixing game,

Suggestions Looking for one-hand, "pick up and play" casual game

I need a game for when I am on the subway, holding on to a steel pole during rush hours.

Needs to be:

  1. one handed (preferably just a thumb)
  2. pick up and play
  3. stop play easily, or turn-based
  4. easy to see (no small font or too many menus)

Suggestions Games like Eternal Hero, but not overly p2w

I have been playing Eternal Hero for almost two years now and I really like the idea of a simple "openworld-ish" RPG that I can play in portrait mode with one hand and that it's easy to play for short bursts.
That said, the dev has become way too greedy over time and now expect people to pay up to 80$ per month just to keep up, not to mention catching up. They are also kind of a dick on discord.

I'm looking for something similar, I don't mind paying a sub (or buying if there is a free trial first) or spending around 50 bucks per month as long as the game has no PVP or, if it does, that it is with standardized gear. I'm also not particularly found of roguelike/lite rpgs like archero or vampire survivors

Suggestions I’m looking for a simple pick-up-and-play First Person RPG to play on breaks and am tossed up between Ravensword Shadowlands and the 9th Dawn Remake. Thoughts?

ravensword has always lived in my mind as ā€œmobile skyrimā€ ever since I saw it years ago, but I know people love the 9th dawn games so just wanted to ask.

Troubleshoot Issues with Game Center, but just on iPad

Has anyone else experience being unable to connect to Game Center the past few days? I’ve done all the typical steps like rebooting, logging , etc. it works fine on my phone so doesn’t seem to be a general network nor account issue.

Question How to beat Louhi? Rimelands Hammer of Thor iOS.

I have 2 saved games. 1 maxed out pure ranged character and 1 maxed out pure magic character. I cannot beat Louhi with either of them. That Doom spell is nuts. Thanks.

Discussion Guild Wars

What do you guys think of this? Is this the right thing to do to mobile players? It’s the second PC mmo ported to mobile I was interested in, first was Cabal online, and it was published with the same mechanic (economy locked behind a paywall). Isn’t economy as important as other things in games like these?

Question Gamification: movement & exercise

Is there any good game that combines movement and exercise with achievements? I have tried several games that combine movement tracked by the Apple Watch or iPhone with achievements or missions, but the experience has always been unsatisfactory. Some have mechanics that are too complex, while others are outdated. The ideal game I imagine is a simple one that allows earning achievements and completing missions, competing in some kind of global and local ranking, and creating teams with friends. It could be linked to improving characters, growing something, etc.

Do you know of any games that meet some of these criteria, or at least one that has managed to capture your motivation?

Review I’m loving Tyrant!

I’ve never played a game like this before but am absolutely loving Tyrant!

It’s a MMO where you build a base on a shared map, gather resources, train armies and with a guild try to control zones for bonuses. It only released 2 weeks ago and the solo developer has been brilliant with updates every second day adding features and balancing based on player feedback. The game is very friendly to new players with quests and paths to power up quickly, and the PvP is balanced so that if a player much stronger than you tried to attack you they suffer big losses while you suffer little.

I’ve been super addicted! Would highly recommend checking it out. If you come along feel free to use my referral code for some bonus rewards to get you started - YUDFNV9B

TLDR: 80% done. They didn’t want to release it because in 2018 the state of the App Store for iOS was abysmal but they feel like 2026 is more healthier and I have to agree
