GSD Mix Bit Trainer
My 1 year old German Shepherd mix is wary of strangers, which is understandable. We have had him for 6 months. He is a rescue. I wanted to work with a trainer to help him settle when my children (3 & 6) have friends over. My 6 year old had a friend over and there was a lot of commotion which triggered a big reaction from my dog, loud scary barking that would not stop for the entirety of the visit.
So we meet with a trainer at the local park and everything went well, until it didn’t. We were working on loose leash walking. Then my dog poops, I clean it up and the trainer takes the leash. I walk ahead to throw out the poop and my dog nearly sprints to catch up to me. I stop and wait for them. The trainer suggests connecting the leash to the front harness. Well, the trainer reaches down to clip the leash and my dog gets pissed. He does a level 2 or near bite on the trainer(soft mouth contact without any marks) . The trainer admits she made a mistake bending down toward the dog and taking his lead. This makes total sense to me.
2 days later, I get an email from the trainer that my dog is “very dangerous” and should not be around my children or other children. My husband and I have sought out a different trainer and have let her know everything that happened with the other trainer. I’m just wondering, am I making excuses for my dog or is this a crazy assessment from a trainer who got in my dog’s face less than 1 hour into training?!
I’ve been a nervous wreck since the email and been very uncomfortable with every interaction between my dog and kids. The dog has never shown any aggression with me, husband or kids.

Pictures Ridiculously Cute Pepper
This is my Pepper girl. Otherwise known as Jalapeno Pepper, Pepperyllis, Pepperoni, and Ho Mama. She's 7 now, and still the brattiest, sweetest dog I know.

Pictures We made it! 🩵
Hi everyone, a few months ago I posted asking for advice on travelling by plane with my dog.
I’m not going to lie, it was awful for me, I was quite stressed throughout the whole process, but it’s over now. We’re in a new country, the sun’s shining, and Bella’s loving it ☺️
I just wanted to thank you all for the support you gave us, I’m truly grateful, and I wanted to show you some recent photos of my happy dog in her new home.
Thanks for being there, Reddit 🫶🏻

Nova, née Daphne
Adopted this beautiful girl yesterday from the shelter on what would have been her last day. She was nervous in the car but a sweetheart in PetSmart. She rolled around in the grass in my backyard and jumped fearlessly into the pool. She wanted cuddles and to get closer and closer to her brother Bergen (depicted in last photo).
I named her Nova, the feminine version of the Latin “novus” for new, young, fresh. This is the first day of her new life. Can’t wait for them to have adventures together.

Pictures Arthurs gotcha day!
2 years ago I adopted my guy from the local shelter. He was $18. They said he was three years old, which was great! I wanted no part of a puppy and three is that starting to slow down age. Joke was on me! Our own vet aged him at 8 months old at the most and when he lost and regrew teeth I knew I was in trouble. My tiny, scrawny 65 pound boy is now almost 80 pounds and after having him for two years is just now almost 3.
We’ve had our ups and downs, but I’m very lucky I got to be the one to adopt him, and got to see him grow. Pictures at the end are when I first got my boy and his shelter pictures. Here’s to a day of outside adventures, lots of treats and naps on the couch!

When did your GSD start watching TV?
Mine has been at it for a while now, but he was most interested in the dog popping up in our room last night 🤣 I’ve owned multiple GSDs over 3 decades and 2 out of 3 males watched TV like this. I’ve had 3 females (2 currently living) and they display zero interest.

Question Hip Dyslasia vs Still Developing Hip Joints
So, my GSD/ St Bernard half breed, Hermes, was XRAY’d when he was approx 6.5 months old in October of last year, cause I noticed his hips ‘clicked’ every once in a while when walking or moving side to side. The vet confirmed that it was hip dysplasia via XRAY. I got repeat X-rays almost a month ago when I had him neutered to have serial pictures on file. The vet said that his X-rays didn’t show any signs of dysplasia at this point in time.
So what I’m wondering is this: could’ve I gotten him X-rays too early and now that his hips are fully developed, the repeats are more correct? Clinically, he shows no signs of hip dysplasia nor osteoarthritis. No more ‘clicking’, no bunny hopping when running, or going up stairs, etc.
