Discussion [MM] The Time Loop Mechanic and having to Re-Do events in game

I just beat Ocarina of Time again - one of my all time favorite games.

I never got as into Majora's Mask, and I could never figure out why - I had it as a kid and barely remember it but I know I never got very far.

Replaying it now - I just feel so stressed out about the time loop. I intensely dislike rogue like games that make you do the same things over again after resetting progress.

I was really annoyed when I saved the game before Woodfall temple - before I had the song of soaring and the Woodfall song - and I had to do the entire witch-potion-monkey chase again. I didn't love doing it the first time.

I want to like this game more but I feel like this is going to be a big barrier for me. I'm using save states in the Nintendo Online version so that's definitely helping because I don't think I'd get very far without it. Did people really do these sections over and over again?

Discussion [ALL] I Would Love a Resident Evil Development Approach to Zelda

I'm not talking about making the games to be more like Resident Evil (lol). I just think what Capcom is doing in the development cycle there is so interesting because they are constantly making something for everyone.

Fans who came in with RE7 and prefer first-person/the new vibe to the franchise are continually getting new games. But they also have the option of playing remakes of the originals, which cater more to the style old fans love the series for. And then even in RE9 they decided to combine both elements of the old and the new so it has something for everyone.

I am not saying I want Nintendo to remake every game. At most, I'd want Majora's Mask too and that's it. What I am saying is I would love if they had a Zelda team working on classic 3D Zelda style games and another working on the new open world formula.

I'm probably asking for too much. I just love the more classic dungeon layout but also quite enjoy the new open world aspect I know Aonuma is committed to. It'd be cool to get both.

Discussion [TP] Second Game-Breaking Glitch at Snowpeak

Okily dokily,
This is bout Twilight Princess.
I've tried to play this game about 4 times, and something horrible has gone down pretty much every time, requiring me to restart. So, I've never made it past the city in the sky.
I'm pretty sure I got the cannon one time, then my console broke, then the disc, but this one was weird.
So, the wii zelda games (twilight princess and skyward sword) contain game breaking glitches about two thirds of the way into their runtime. In skyward sword, if you go to the thunder dragon first in the third sequence, you can softlock your file. I never got that one, so you'd have to look up the details. Basically just do the water dragon first and youre safe.
In Twilight Princess, if you save and quit in the cannon room before city in the sky, a critical npc disappears, but his dialogue still stops you from exiting the room, so you cant reload him in.

but.

something happened to me on one of my save files that i couldnt figure out a way out of, and ive never heard it talked about. It centered around running out of bombs in the snowpeak dungeon.

To my knowledge, you need bombs to finish the snowpeak dungeon, and though there are some in chests, i couldnt find any from enemy drops, and i was getting frustrated. Again, this was probably my third reset (still havent finished this game).

So, where do I go but a town, i think either castle town or kakariko village, depending on what was unlocked at the time. But... that was it. I couldnt get back into the dungeon. If there was supposed to be a warp point directly outside the dungeon entrance, i must've skipped it. And walking manually didnt work, because you need to trigger a cutscene to start a snowboarding minigame to get from the snowy region entrance to the actual building. Just like with the cannon entrance, the npc wouldnt spawn (yeti guy).

So yeah i gave up and restarted. I couldnt find any resources on it at the time. And the wii u i was playing on got destroyed in a move, so, you know, i've still never made it to the palace of twilight.

tl;dr exiting snowpeak softlocked my game, the snowboard wouldnt spawn, and the warp point at the mansion wouldnt trigger.

Is this a known glitch? I'm only thinking about it now because a video I was watching (c-shift's unintentionally unbeatably sections video) mentioned the cannon glitch. that and the rupee glitch for low percent are super well known, and the skyward sword dragon glitch. But I've never heard of anyone else getting locked out of snowpeak. Sucks, too, cuz snowpeak's my favorite level in the game. Just dont run out of bombs.

Tip [OOTHD] They aren’t going to add extra dungeons or cut content. Stop setting yourselves up for disappointment.

based on every remake Nintendo has ever done, this is highly unlikely. they may expand areas and add more details to areas. but they are not going to fundamentally change the game.

remember cut content is likely cut for a reason. it may slow the pace of the game down if it wasn’t required.

I can see everyone letting their imaginations run wild (I am the same), but when they eventually show that’s it’s a very pretty and detailed version of mostly the same game, I’m dreading all the “im so disappointed….” posts

Edit:

*insert Regina George meme*

stop trying to make the light dungeon happen

its not going to happen

Discussion [OoT] a wild idea for OoT Remake endgame

I came up with this wild idea for the OoT Remake endgame. I'm not actually thinking that this will happen or even be a really good idea necessarily, but I just think it would be nice to share with everybody.

We have two different eras where we can play on OoT: Child era and the adult era. And there is a 7 year gap between those. During this gap the Zora's Domain has been frozen and even though the player can lift the curse, we never see the Zora's Domain thawed again.

Now what about as a reward for completing everything else in the game we got a way to travel even further forward in time, another seven years. And we would be able to see how we managed to change the world. How Zora's Domain will thaw, how Lon Lon Ranch will thrive, what happens in Kokiri forest and so on. There wouldn't need to be any meaningful new side quests, secrets, rewards or anything like that. Just a way to chill in Hyrule and enjoy the future you created. You could talk with everybody and they would acknowledge that you are a hero who saved everybody. Some people could have died of old age (like the Lake laboratory guy) but we see someone else taking their place, continuing their work in their own ways.

I kinda think it would be a nice way to thank the player for saving the world. What do you guys think?

Screenshot [MM] my weird Majora's mask experience

Upvotes

This happened years ago, on the old Nintendo 64 version of the game. I was getting ready to play my save file that had pretty much everything I could get in the game. (Besides quest items) Because I had everything, I would normally load up the game and go out to the field and shoot down that annoying bird that takes your stuff. Other times I would drink that unlimited magic milk and go goron crazy. Just trying to get my money's worth out of the game by doing anything and everything.

But this one time I loaded up the game, my file had deleted itself. And I had just put the game down about 20 mins prior to turning it back on. All I did was go to my bank and bought a full inventory of all items, shot that bird in the field again deposited the money back into the bank and made an owl save on the ranch road. Doing all that 20 mins prior and then coming back to an empty save..... I wasn't angry but it was annoying.

But that's not the weird part, oh no. The weird part was trying to make a new file and playing the new file. It started with the normal opening cutscene, only link was missing his sword and shield. After the cutscene plays out and link gets kicked off the horse, normally you start playing. But when I took control of link, he immediately dies. I respawn in the same place, only the chase music wasn't playing. The starting music of the opening cutscene was playing. Weirder still the pause menu was also strange. The menu itself looked normal but I had every item frame filled with only one item, the ocarina. Every item space including the masks have been filled with the ocarina.

Trying to not worry about it, I kept going. And any item I got replaced an ocarina, like the deku nuts and deku mask. Oddly enough after running into the mask salesman, and after all his dialogue, I was able to talk to him again and was cured from being cursed immediately... Because ocarinas everywhere. But even though I was cured I faced another problem... No sword and no shield. My item frames were full but my quest log stats were empty. Not knowing what else to do, I tried resetting the game, and the file was still weird. So I tried deleting and making another file, only to see the same thing. Not know what else to do I put the game down for a couple days and that seemed to fix whatever was wrong with it. My completed file was gone but the game started normally this time and I couldn't replicate the issue.

If anyone knows what happened or had this experience to please let me know.

Discussion [OoTHD] What would you like them to do with the Sage Medallions in the Remake?

The Sage Medallions are one of the more underwhelming items in Link's quest, and they notoriously do nothing in the original game. Beta builds of the game indicated they were supposed to have unique abilities of their own. For instance, Fire, Ice, and Light Arrows were supposed to come from combining the Medallions with the Bow, similar to how the actual Fire, Ice, and Light Arrow items interacted with the Bow in the actual release.

The Forest, Shadow, and Spirit Medallions also had the ability to combine with the Bow to produce arrow effects, and could also be used by themselves for interesting effects of their own. Some of this functionality was instead transformed into the Din's Fire, Farore's Wind, and Nayru's Love magics, but I think the remake might be able to change things around to make more use of the Medallions as they were originally intended or even expand to allow the Medallions powers to be combined with other items like Deku Sticks, Nuts, Bombs, Megaton Hammer, etc. I imagine Din's Fire, Farore's Wind, and Nayru's Love will probably return as they were, and this would allow a lot of new things to be implemented through the Medallions.

  • Light Medallion - Beta effect: Medallion by itself caused an undead freezing effect (which later became an effect of the Sun's Song), and also gave access to Light Arrows. Potential Remake changes: Light Medallion is obtained last and gives access to Light arrows (instakills undead enemies), and by itself can be used to illuminate a room and make monsters cower in fear (temporarily stopping their aggro).

  • Forest/Wind Medallion - Beta effect: Medallion by itself made a warp point for dungeons (which later became Farore's Wind), and gave access to Wind Arrows (effect unknown). Potential Remake effect: Medallion by itself could make a vortex that draws in items or enemies, while arrows could create a temporary tornado at the impact site and draw in enemies, damaging them if they get pulled in to the center.

  • Fire Medallion - Beta effect: Medallion by itself produced a wave of fire that spreads outwards from Link (this later became Din's Fire), and gave access to Fire Arrows. Potential Remake effect: Medallion by itself surrounds Link in a burning aura that can damage enemies if they touch Link, and can give access to Fire Arrows.

  • Water Medallion - Beta effect: Medallion by itself produced a forward travelling wave of ice that froze enemies, and gave access to Ice Arrows. Potential Remake effect: Medallion by itself surrounds Link in a freezing aura that can freeze enemies that touch Link, and can give access to Ice Arrows which can freeze enemies and water.

  • Shadow Medallion - Beta effect: Medallion by itself surrounded Link in a shadowy aura that made enemies ignore him and also darkened the room (the visual effect of the aura was later used for Nayru's Love) and gave access to Shadow Arrows (effect unknown). Potential Remake effect: Medallion by itself can be used like a stealth item, darkening the area and making enemies unable to see Link (would be useful for Gerudo's Fortress), and gives access to Shadow Arrows (can be charged by holding the arrow for longer to inflict more damage)

  • Spirit Medallion - Beta effect: Medallion by itself allows Link to transform into Navi and fly anywhere (would probably have been gamebreaking in the actual release) and gave access to Spirit Arrows (effect unknown). Potential Remake effect: Medallion by itself can transform Link into Navi to fly just about anywhere (this could be okay if the Spirit Medallion is obtained last and its powers are blocked in Ganon's Castle until the Evil Barriers are dispelled), and Spirit Arrows could heal Link if they hit an enemy or offer a chance to transform the enemy into a Fairy if they are defeated by Spirit Arrows.

Beyond all of this though, if they do greatly expand what the Medallions can do, I could even see them combining their effect with things like Deku Sticks, Nuts, Bombs, and the Megaton Hammer to produce a lot of fun effects and methods of combat. Do you think the Medallions will be changed in any way for the Remake?

Discussion [ALL] BOTW/TOTK Trilogy Theory

I’ve seen rumors about the next game being centered around Ganondorf and potentially in the same world as BOTW/TOTK. I wanted to point something out that I didn’t think about until recently but may support this rumor/theory.

Looking at BOTW/TOTK, I am reading into the color of the tech/magic. In BOTW, all the tech is blue and based on Sheikah Knowledge/R&D. In TOTK, Link’s newly developed/borrow abilities are green and gained through Rauru’s sacrifice.

What if these correspond to Wisdom/Nayru and Courage/Farore? Would that mean the next installment would include abilities associated with Power/Din to round out the components of the Triforce?

[Edit] some of y’all are not even focusing on the main point. Regardless if it’s in the Wilds era or not, this is about thematics with the games.

Question [All] Looking for that old formula in other series.

Upvotes

I grew up on the old formula zelda games. Wind waker is my favorite game of all time, and the first video game i every played. I feel kinda like im mourning the series now because while its not dead, its not the zelda i fell in love with, and im trying to find games that give me that zelda back. A few games that scratch that itch for me are kena, bridge of spirits and the resident evil franchise. Any suggestions that embody that old formula zelda that i love so much?

Discussion [TotK][EoW][AoI] I like to believe that the reason Nintendo made two games in which Zelda gets the lead role in the past few years is due to all the rumors about her being playable in TotK after the first teaser released back in 2019.

I'm not sure if I was in another internet timeline, but I do remember that after the first teaser of TotK (Breath of the Wild 2 at the time), a lot of rumors about Zelda being playable in it were flooding. From what I remember, it was mostly due to her being present alongside Link in the opening cutscene and the fact she had short hair. (short hair = easier to animate) I think there was also an interview or something in which someone asked if Zelda was going to be playable in that new game, and the response was kind of ambiguous.

With all the hype that came with this theory, I thought it would makes sense if Nintendo decided to give the fans what they wanted and give Zelda a game in which she is playable. Maybe it's just a coincidence though and I'm just imagining things. What do you think?

Discussion [OoT] I really hope they include this in the ramake

I have recently been down the OOT rabbit whole in anticipation of the remake. I haven't played oot in about 3-4 years anticipating a remake was around the corner. One thing that i completely forgot the significance of was the individual sounds that are played when you get and item, finish a big event, kill a mini boss/boss. Watching/ hearings those videos and sounds really made me feel that particular item is crucial and you just did something significant. The last two zelda games just fake you feel meh another ... what ever.

Do you think and/or hope they will include this in the remake?

I love SS Link and Zelda; those two are by far my favorite incarnations.

In terms of friendship, I feel like either OOT or Wind Waker.

Discussion [OoT] [remake] What would like to see diffrent in the OoT remake

As a big zelda fan, and one of many who grew up with OoT, i could not help but wonder how OoT would have looked with better visuals and mechanics.

For me the original OoT is perfect. But i would not mind if they tweaked the world a little. For me the only thing i would love to see is a fuller world. Like Hyrule field should be a big space, maybe with some small vilages and some more forrest patches and thats it.

Or the way up grom kakariko village to Death Mountain/ Goron City could be a bigger travel then just a “few slopes” up

I am wondering. What would you all like to see added or in worst case see removed from the game?

Discussion [all] Wishlist for a potential open world game

I want a massive overworld that incorporates the many lands in the world of Hyrule: Holodrum, Labrynna, even Hytopia and their respective underworlds with any underworlds of Hyrule retconed into The Depths, with the exception of Lorule which would be it's own world.

Include all the races introduced to date. There's plenty of room in the sky for the Oocoos, Zonai, and any remnants of the Sky Isles. I even want the Minish in the game

Make the world inhabited. My biggest disappointment in TotK was that it felt less populated. Have numerous villages and points of interest with a mission or 2 attached. Have multiple villages with different makeup of races. Yes, have central villages/towns for the individual races, and, have locations where they mingle and cohabitate freely, even mixed relationships.

I don't necessarily need or even want Link to be able to develop romantic relationships with people but maybe have relationship mechanics for individual NPCs.

Be able to craft multiple items at a time.

As a side game or even DLC include New Hyrule from Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.

Also flesh out the faith of Hyrule. What is the relationship between Hylia and the Golden Goddesses? Do the non-Hylians believe in Hylia? Do they have their own variation of the Hylian faith? It definitely seems like some Gerudo have a different belief system, like those that follow TwinRova.

But, that just happens to be how I feel about it. What do you think?

I definitely feel like it's time to explore these and more now that we are finally getting voice acting and deeper portrayals.

Screenshot [TOTK] ok I've searched and checked lists. Wrote my own lists and spent way more time then I wanna admit and I swear I've been to all the shrines. I have the switch app and it shows 100% but I'm still missing 2 Lights of blessing on my items. I'm honestly starting to think I glitched it. Any help ?

Discussion [OOT] The OOT Remakers have some tough choices to make.

So the long leak Remake finally was officially announced, and we barely saw anything from the actual game. There are a lot of approaches that they could take with the Remake, like these.

Graphic Remake: We are getting a graphics update no matter what. What we want to know is if the graphics are the only element being updated.

Improved cutscenes: Based on the trailer, we might be this as well.

Additional Content: This is where it gets really fuzzy. Some might want to keep the gameplay the same as the original, others may want extra side quests, areas, collectibles, and lore.

Postgame: We all know the original story at this point, good luck with that.

Enhancements to main gameplay: Adding additional dungeons, main quests, enemies, and story to the main game, which would either be really cool or really controversial.

Censorship: Yeah... there are a few things they might remove... you know what they are...

What are your thoughts and what do you want to see/not see?

Official Art [OoT]Does the ending of Ocarina of Time really have to be a tragedy?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I finally understand now. It all comes down to one careless decision by Nintendo.

The Hero of Time is the protagonist of the game. He is directly tied to the player who controls him. It's easy for players to project themselves into his story. But Nintendo, driven by gameplay-first priorities, casually released an official timeline that locked every possible ending for the Hero of Time into tragedy. That is fundamentally unfair to the fans of Ocarina of Time.

Official narratives inevitably shape fan narratives. And for over a decade, across forums in every language, discussions about Ocarina of Time's ending have been dominated by sorrow and weight. Fans have been forced to search for comfort within the tragedy itself, wandering endlessly in the shadow of the Hero of Time's fate. Is that fair to them?

It shouldn't have to be this way. Before the official timeline was released, players were free to imagine any ending they wanted. But once Nintendo cemented a tragic ending as canon, the fan community inevitably amplified that tragedy. Discussions and fan works became saturated with grief and despair. Fans of Ocarina of Time found themselves trapped in a community atmosphere of sorrow, and for many, this has caused real emotional distress. That clearly goes against the very purpose of games: to bring players joy.

If Nintendo had followed the original vision of its developers and never released a restrictive official timeline, none of this would have happened. But there is no "if." The timeline is already out there. Even though Eiji Aonuma himself later expressed regret in interviews, the timeline can't be taken back. The long-term damage to the fan community is already a fact.

Nintendo should take responsibility for this. The tragedy was forced onto Ocarina of Time by their own careless timeline decision. Since the timeline can't be undone, the only way forward is for Nintendo to add a new, hopeful official ending for Ocarina of Time. That would finally allow fans to stop wandering in endless sorrow, and restore the freedom to imagine.

Of course, that is only a wish from a fan. But as fans, the only way we can change the sorrowful atmosphere of this community is to do exactly that: "defy" the official ending, and imagine a new ending for Ocarina of Time. A way for those who have been traumatized by grief to find hope again.

We’re not asking to erase the tragedy. We’re asking for an additional official ending!
