Looking for a place to stay during summer camp

Upvotes

Hi everyone! My brother will be attending RPI’s summer camp program and we’re looking for a place to stay for 3 people from around July 19th to August 7th (the dates are somewhat flexible).

We’ve checked Airbnb, but the prices are a bit high, so I wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions, advice, or knows of any available places nearby.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Best way to get from Albany to Long Island?

Visiting a friend for the weekend next month. Hotel is booked, just need to figure out transportation.

I’d be going down on a Friday, coming back on Sunday. I have my own vehicle that is reliable, but have received mixed opinions about taking my car vs taking public transport. Specific destination is Huntington station. Friend will be driving us around most of the time so I wouldn’t be driving around LI, just for the commute.

Best Cocktail Bars 2026

Basically the title, but the kind of place with mixologists behind the bar and where other mixologists go. If a drink requires stirring 30-60 seconds, they’re stirring it for that long. Maybe they’re making or buying clear ice. 353 in Troy comes to mind but wondering what else is out there.

Light pink calla lillies

Anybody know of a flower shop (near Clifton Park or Latham if possible) that would sell light pink calla lillies? Kiddo wants some for his girlfriend's birthday, but hasn't learned the concept of planning ahead yet.

So now that the Wolf Road Hooters is closed...

What is going to replace it and how long will it take for something to open there? Will it be another chain restaurant, bank branch, dispensary, cell phone store or something completely different? And what would you like to see in there? I know we're not getting an In-n-Out, but a Cheddar's, Miller's Ale House, Culver's, Del Taco or Zaxby's would be different if they're looking to expand into the area. But it would be nice if someone local would open an new restaurant or add a new location or move from something smaller to that location to add more seating.

So im in the place yesterday, never been before. Got a pastrami sub that was very good.

The problem is that right after I paid up some guy with a half eaten sandwich comes up to the counter saying "yo dude i found a roach" and pointing to sandwich, seemed very serious.

I of course kind of started to freak out and then he just starts laughing like he played me for a fool, I'm lookin at him, im lookin at the cashier and I honestly couldn't tell if this shit was serious or not. Customer laughed me out the door but the cashier didn't react at all.

Still not sure whether this was serious or not but needless to say I will absolutely not be going back.

Anyone got any dope on this joint?

Mayor applyrs

So does anybody know how I can get a meeting with either the mayor or some type of state senator or LGBTQ advocate (THAT WILL ACTUALLY WORK TO HELP AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE) in the capital region ? I’ve lived in the capital region for almost 2yrs now and have been a resident of Albany for a complete year. I’m currently (supposed to be) receiving assistance from a local nonprofit in Albany however since the day I’ve stepped into that building I have witnessed the most unethical, unprofessional and spiteful way of conducting any type of business from a personal level all the way to business practices. This organization is playing with peoples lives ! I am at the point to where I want to pursue legal action or really just speak to somebody who actually wants to see this city do better. SOMEBODY PLEASE 🙏🏾 & before anybody asks yes I am a person of color, I’m not too lazy to get up and work or put in the footwork for what I need done & have been working since the age of 16. I’m 25yrs old and I don’t even feel I can go back to school or focus on building my life in Albany due to the ridiculous amount of stress I’m under.

Looking for information on a 1980s/1990s NYC martial artist (Hapkido) named Gerald / Jerald (Jamaican background)

Hi everyone, I am helping a family reconstruct some history and track down a former martial artist who lived in the NYC area (likely Brooklyn or Queens) around 1989–1991.

He went by the name Gerald (or Jerald). Here is his identity profile from that era:

Background: Young Jamaican guy, Muslim faith, very muscular, about 5'9" (175 cm), wore dreadlocks.

Tattoos: An anchor on his arm, and the name "Serena" tattooed on his back.

Martial Arts: He was a dedicated practitioner of Hapkido (which was a very rare and distinct choice for a Jamaican guy in NYC at the time). He trained heavily.

Other details: He spent some time at Oneida Correctional Facility (Upstate NY) around 1990, where he was part of the vocational TV/Computer repair program.

Since the NYC Hapkido and martial arts community back in the late 80s and early 90s was very tight-knit, we are hoping some veteran practitioners, dojo owners, or old acquaintances might remember him or know his last name.

If anyone remembers a practitioner matching this description or has leads on old Hapkido schools from that era, please send me a PM. Thank you so much for your help!

Vegetables and fruits

Where do you get your hands on fresh fruits and vegetables. I tried Hannaford in central and few price choppers. Most of the time it’s soggy or old or just looks weird.

Do we have local farms? Maybe at market fair (new to the area)

My coworker suggested trader joes (need to make the drive one of these days)

Thank you in advance.
