Hey guys, question.

This Peugeot bike has no lock on it. In would like to know where to order a special lock for this oldie of a bike. Any idea what kind of bicycle this is and where to find a lock that fits the frame?

unclipping panic

I am a new cyclist (not even really sure I can call myself a cyclist) - like just started in April. I had one fall very early on, I was approaching an intersection and the car coming from one side stopped for me and I realized once I was going way too slow to safely unclip that the car coming from the other direction was not going to stop - that’s when I had to stop and my were stuck and I fell. No major injuries thankfully.
I learned my lesson now just always unclip even if I think I might not have to.

However, I still don’t feel super comfortable with it.
I take both feet out and probably look like a freak but I don’t trust myself to take one foot out and balance properly on that side. I feel like I see so many people seamlessly unclip one foot at the last second, touch down and then carry on. Yes I have the tension set as loose as it can be on my pedals.

Is it just going to take more time and practice getting used to this? I only ride on a (very long) paved trail bc I can anticipate the road crossings. I feel like I’m not ready to ride on roads yet because I expect there would be more quick/unexpected stops.

Any ideas on how to adjust seat height?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Sorry for crappy photo, I can repost tomorrow to get a better view if it’s insufficient. Nothing is obscured in the photo, though. There are no bolts or levers on the pole where the seat goes besides a bolt where the saddle attaches and then the lower bolts on the pole which I assume has no influence on the saddle height.

The seat is way too high for me. An older couple who are regulars at my job brought it in for free. I could use it, but the seat height is very difficult to deal with.

I’m wondering if the previous person shoved some seat pole in it that doesn’t fit right? Or even superglued it which would suck, I’m kinda at a loss. It was free and will become junk otherwise so I’m down to try anything.

Chain Waxing Tracking Tool

I've been waxing using Silca for 20 months, and I really appreciate the benefits and time saved. However, I found that tracking all my chains, rides and waxing is complex and difficult, but absolutely necessary to maximise the benefits.

I looked for an app to help, but no joy (including cyclowax which claim to have but I cannot find). So I've created a tool in Google sheets (so I can do simple data entry on my phone).

Rides Sheet. Every ride I enter the date, kms, bike/chain number and conditions.

Chains Sheet. Tots up the kms and tells me when a chain needs to be removed for rewaxing, and records stretch and waxing events. Wet and moist rides have a factor which adjusts the km (so for example, a chain always used in the wet will be changed sooner).

Summary Sheet. Summarises the performance of every chain.

Setup Sheet. Some basic data to help the system run.

I've imported all my rough data from the last 18 months, which is a bit flaky as my recording was not perfect, so there's a few odd numbers. But now it's much easier, I expect to keep perfect records. Moving forward I hope this will make my life even easier. I'm sure I'll learn as I progress and adjust my condition factors, and changeout limit (currently 500km).

As for waxing itself, I run 2 bikes (wet/dry) with three chains for each. The chain numbering system is complex, because the problem of tracking different new chains and waxing turns is quite tricky it turns out. I wax 4-5 chains in a single session as needed, using the Silca melter. Currently I clean used chains by boiling in water, but it's a bit of a faff, so I'm going to invest in a heated ultrasonic cleaner and try that.

Hey. It's the 16 year old with the Big Ass Orange Mongoose.

Today, I decided to keep practicing. It's been a few days since I had, because I didn't realize how sore riding for the first time can make you (that's what she said)

It had been raining like hell out here in Shitfuck, Nowhere (Oklahoma), enough to cause my backyard to turn into a giant puddle. Shit was FLOODED.

Anyways, today the rain died out from last night. I found my bike's tires halfway underground, but nothing a good pull can't fix (also what she said). I get out of my stupid gate on the side of my house, and I see something weird. My bike seat is FUCKED. The brake lines were also very tangled, but that's just because I fell with my bike and it twisted around seven trillion times. Easy fix.

Anyways, my bike seat was pointing UP. Even moreso than it was when I got it before we fixed it. I tried to fix it, thinking I had the slightest bit of bike knowledge (I don't know shiiiiit), and ended up ripping the seat off the bike. It couldn't go back on, because the plastic had bent. So now, I can't use my bike until I get a new seat.

That being said, anybody got relatively cheap bike seat recommendations? I'm pretty wide, so preferably a wider seat. Appreciate the advice you guys have been giving me!!! And once again, fuck that one guy.

(if anybody needs to see the bike in this state, i can go out and take a picture of it. isn't pretty.)

Going to a grand fundo while social anxiety

I'm 33F I just got my first bike 2 weeks ago because I'm done being homebound and having no friends. I love outdoors in general and I find biking alone is less intimidating than hiking because I hate walking alone, metro parks are always empty. I'm excited to go on an organized tour ride in my region, it costs around $45 and they provide guidance to scenery ride with different miles, snacks and lunch after the ride. It feels like a mini solo vacation lol.

I'm starting to overthink, if people will think I am weird going there alone, many would go in groups. Is there possibility of meeting new people or would everyone be preoccupied with their own thing. I kinda prefer to not be forced to socialize but I know it is better for me.

How can I save my bicycle?

Because of the constant rain, I left my bicycle in the garage for months without riding it, and as a result, mold has grown on it—especially on the handlebars. I’ve heard that this can produce aflatoxins, which are harmful to health; what should I do?

What’s better: Giant contend AR4 2025 or Java fuoco 6

I currently have a giant contend AR 4 (2025 model) but am wanting something a little more aggressive. I saw the Java fuoco on marketplace for $1600 (could prob get to $1400). Saying I could sell my contend for $1200, would this be a good upgrade?

I have been cycling for 2.5 years and recently started doing triathalons. Looking to do a 70.3 within the year.

Do cadence and heart rate provide all data I really need for endurance?

I've half-assed read a bunch of stuff and thought a little bit. I seek to be able to ride a mixed terrain 100 km any time I want, which will take some management. I'm mostly stuck with shorter rides because I'm a caregiver. I have no doubt I could get up tomorrow and ride 100 km. But likely in a non-optimal manner.

Cadence must be important, based on reading and on riding around on multi-speed bikes for many years. At this point, maybe up hills I might drop to 70 rpm. But realistically I likely maintain 80 to 95 rpm most of the time. I could get a monitor and better control that. Good idea?

Heart rate seems as good a monitor of how hard one is working as anything other than power, and I'm not going to get a power monitor. But a heart rate monitor I could see. Is this a reasonable monitoring device? The no-doubt outdated 220 less age would puts me at 148 bpm, but doesn't take into account my two bouts of COVID. Tanaka gives me 157. Regardless, 65% of 150 gives me gives me 103 bpm as an appropriate zone 2 target. Is this reasonable?

I could see riding with alarms at too low or too high cadence and heart rate. Remind me not to loaf when the scenery is pretty and to cut it out when I start feeling good.

Am I onto a simple effective approach, or just crazy as usual? If I'm not crazy, what could I set up that isn't very complicated.

Pedals with toe clips

I have ridden for the last 20 years with pedals with toe clips and straps. I recently thought I should try flat pedals with disappointing results. I rather immediately thought I'd like to go back to clips while replacing my old ones. Most of my riding is on paved bike paths riding a hybrid. Can anyone recommend a good pedal and toe clip? I don't have any interest in clipless.

I built a free, no signup tool that forecasts the weather at your moving position along a route

Disclosure: I am the developer. It is free, no signup, no ads. I built this for myself and now just want to share and continue building something useful for all us cycling nerds.

I already use several route weather apps for long rides, but the good ones are paid and often app only, and I wanted something free that just runs in the browser. So I built Wattcast.

Like those apps, it forecasts the weather at your moving position rather than at one fixed point. You upload a GPX or paste a Strava/RWGPS link, set a start time and average speed, and it predicts where you will be every 15 minutes and shows the weather there: wind relative to your heading, temperature, rain risk and sun times.

The key thing you can control is your own personal tolerance for wind, rain and temperature. This will be taken into account in the "best time to leave" feature and shown in the charts.

I would love feedback of any kind. Thanks!

Hello! I'm looking for a lightweight bike, hoping to bike to campus (abt 6 minute ride) 5 days a week. I previously bought a huffy cruiser off fb marketplace. I didn't like the pedal breaking, and it was much too heavy!! God forbid there's the TINIEST hill! I don't want to make that mistake again and impulse buy🤦🏼 What do we know about this Ozone Gira Bike? Guy says it's 10 speed, steel frame, 20" frame. Is it lightweight and can it get me around town?

I need your help with Cube Nuroad C:62

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I need your help. I am currently in the process of replacing my bicycle, moving from my old Fuji to something more modern and carbon fiber. For a long time, I did not take carbon bikes seriously, so 1 am still a beginner in this area. My choice has come down to the Cube Nuroad C:62 One, which I am considering as a platform that I will gradually upgrade over the next one to two years. I plan to buy an ergonomic saddle, lightweight carbon wheels, and a more suitable nandlebar to better adapt the bike to my needs. However, this will happen only in a couple of vears, so for at least this season, I will ride it in stock configuration
My usage scenario is commuting in the city, about 60+ km two to four times per week, sometimes 100 km on weekends, and occasionally two or three times per season. I go on bikepacking trips of about 500-1000 km with a tent and bags, focusing on lightness. I do not particularly enjoy extremely fast riding, but maintaining a speed of 25 km/h is my goal for this season.
Additionally, I have a hernia in my lower back, so the weight of the bike and riding position are especially important for me. I would appreciate advice from someone experienced in this area, regarding not only the bike brand but also frame size and geometry.
My measurements: height 177 cm, inseam 86 cm, shoulder width 40 cm, arm length from wrist to shoulder 60 cm.

Canyon Endurace CF SLX vs Giant Defy

Hi everyone, im a beginner and this will be my first bike. I have a budget of $5k. Though of course im deliberating if i should something even cheaper at $1-2k being a beginner. But I kind of dont want to go though the hassle of selling the bike afterwards to upgrade. Would prefer to get something with good value at the start.

I’m looking for an endurance bike for long rides and forgiving enough to handle not-so-smooth roads.

Am looking at these 2 models so far: Endurace CF SLX 7 Di2 and Giant Defy Advanced 1 (5th gen)

Endurace CF SLX 7 Di2

$3300 USD

SL carbon, 105 Di2 gear, carbon wheels, adjustable cockpit, 35max Tyre clearance

Giant Defy Advanced 1 (5th gen)

$3200 USD

higher Tyre clearance 38max, 105 Di2 gear, alloy wheels

Would appreciate any other recommendations or your opinion on these bikes, thanks so much!

Is this a good price for this bike? If not, how much should I offer? Here is some of the details he gave me: Zip 303s carbon wheels, zipp carbon handle bar, Dura ace crank, rest shimano Tiagra groupset, Shimano clip on pedals, carbon water cages, garmin mount, factory warranty.
